⭒٭⭑ 12 Chapter 12
Ash and smoke was all Sydney saw as she opened her eyes. There was a large amount of smoke and she pulled out her wand.
Muttering a minor banishing spell, she got up to see that she was laying on Thor's body.
She quickly got up from him and immediately went to check him, while asking question on their comms.
"What the hell happened?" she hissed. "I can't see anything."
Romanoff's voice came over the comms. "Loki's ship was right next to ours. Our best guess is that they're trying to rescue him."
Of course, they were. Thought Sydney with gritted teeth. Finally, Thor began to wake.
"Lady Potter," he said, startled.
"Get up! Loki's ship's here to take him back. You and I'll go secure him. Stark and Rogers are fixing a failure in an engine and Romanoff's trying to control the Hulk," Sydney briefed him, before pulling him up and dragging him to the cell.
They reached the cell, to see Loki sitting in it calmly. He seemed oblivious to the damage the hellicarrier had obtained.
And the door opened. She didn't know how, nor did she care. All she knew was that it was open.
Before she could do anything about it, Thor rushed forward in an effort to push him pack in the cage, but Loki had created an illusion.
Thor had rushed straight past Loki into the cage. And before she could comprehend what had happened, Loki was behind her.
He pushed him into the cage next to Thor and she found that she couldn't resist.
"Pity," he said silkily. "You would have made an incredible ally. Being the Mistress of Death."
Sydney froze. No one had called her that in years. She had hidden all three Deathly Hallows in different places, even tried to break them, but they always ended up in her arms.
So, she vowed never to us them again.
Thor noticed her freeze, and being the protective friend (yes, he had started thinking of her as his friend) that he was, immediately came to her defense.
"Leave her be, brother! Your Fight is with me. there is no need to bring innocent mortals into this."
"He's right. I suggest you surrender. Or I will use this," came a new voice.
Sydney turned so fast that she might have snapped her neck. Standing there was Coulson, a huge gun in his hands, with some orange substance attached to it.
As he approached Loki, with caution, Sydney saw Loki make a decoy of himself.
Either she was too busy contemplating what this would mean for him, or she was too afraid to think it, or Loki had stopped her from using her voice, she didn't know, but she couldn't warn him on time.
She watched, horrified as Loki pierced the scepter through his chest and it came out, an inhumane amount of blood on it.
As much as she hoped, she knew there was no way he could have survived.
Her breathing became rapid and short as she watched him stagger backwards, before slumping on the floor.
She could see the blood marks on the wall.
But just as Loki was about to walk away, a burst of orange energy blasted from the gun and hit Loki on the chest.
Even though it didn't cause him much damage, she felt an odd sensation of satisfaction.
"So that's what it does," whispered Phil Coulson, as he let out his last breath.
Biting her lip, Sydney didn't need to see anything to swallow the truth. After witnessing so many deaths, it was easy to know when a person was dead and, while bit harder to come to terms with it, she was used to that.
In fact, five years later, she still hadn't come to terms with the Battle of Hogwarts. But right now, only one thought screamed in her head.
Phil Coulson was dead.
