⭒٭⭑ 01 Chapter 1

Phil Coulson grinned to himself. It was extremely hard to impress his friend/colleague Fury. But somehow, he had managed to convince Fury to take in this woman.

Fury had given him orders almost immediately after watching the video and running face recognition software on the unknown woman.

He had scoured the web for some sign of a warrior and had almost given up when this video showed up on YouTube. He knew that she would be perfect for the Avengers Initiative. Granted if this wasn't a photoshop.

They had tracked her location quiet easily. He was now sitting in a car waiting for the driver to give him the heads up.

The man in the front gave him a thumbs up and Coulson got up almost immediately. He had a briefcase with all the files inside it.

He walked toward the small dirty apartment, quite in contrast to the vast tower Stark had.

In his excitement, he didn't even take the elevator. He started walking up the stairs.

A decision he immediately regretted, realizing that the woman he was searching for lived on the 10th floor.

He climbed up slowly and he was panting by the 7th floor.

Finally, he reached his destination and he smiled. He walked straight up to the house marked 1045.

As he knocked on the door, a blood curdling noise, made his heart stop.

Sydney Potter almost dropped her tea when she heard her Caterwauling Charm go off.

At the drop of a pin, she was standing behind the door with her wand in her hand. Cautiously she opened her door just enough to see who was outside.

Outside stood a man with a briefcase and in a suit that was put on so immaculately, that it could only be a muggle.

She slipped her wand back in its invisible holster.

She opened the door and the Caterwauling Charm stopped. The man dropped his hands from his ears in relief.

When he recovered from his shock, he held his hand out for her to shake.

"Phil Coulson. Agent of the Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division. I'm here to talk to you about something. May I come in?" he asked.

Reluctantly, Sydney opened the door. When she opened her mouth to introduce herself, the man, Coulson, interrupted her again.

"I know who you are." Then after a pause he began again, "That's what you were about to say right? It would be awkward if it weren't."

Sydney didn't crack a smile. "Yeah. that's what I was about to say. So, what do you want from me?"

The man took out a few files from his briefcase and laid them on the table.

"S.H.I.E.L.D. is a government organization that works on protecting the people. While we at S.H.I.E.L.D. can protect the people from the normal threats, we need people to protect them from the intergalactic threats." Phil ended, as though that would give Sydney a scare, but she just blinked.

"And?" she asked, unamused.

"I thought that would startle you, but yeah, we want you to join," Phil replied. Sydney stared at him, before bursting out laughing.

"What makes you think that I would be of any help?" she asked, in between her laughing. But somewhere inside, she was scared. Scared that he had found out her secret, but she didn't show it. She never showed it.

"Ms. Potter. you are the perfect fit for this project," Phil replied patiently.

"Me? you've got the wrong person Coulson. I'm a puny little girl, with literally no self-defense," she tried, but Phil wasn't taking no for an answer.

"I understand your need to keep it secret, but we know what you are capable of," Phil said softly.

That made Sydney's blood run cold. He knew. He knew about her magic.

"Then you understand the need to keep it secret," she said coolly. Phil shook his head.

"You can keep your identity a secret, but we need your help. The lives of innocents are at stake." He knew he had convinced her. Most of them had agreed after he had added this statement. It was golden. He could see the conflict in her eyes, but it was very well hidden.

After a long silence she finally answered, "Fine." But before Phil could celebrate, she added, "I will only be there, this once. I won't be coming back for another battle."

Phil however was confident, that her time with the rest of them would convince her, so he just nodded and left all the files she needed to read on her table, before walking out the door and informing Fury.
