For Bailey Rogers - a broken, lonely girl - magic was her only escape from the unfortunate life she lived. Ever since she was a child, she had been verbally abused by her Mother, but at the age of nine, when she begged for a magic kit for her birthday, Kali Rogers slapped her daughter for the first time and from then on, it just continued. It was ironic how magic was her escape, but it was also the thing her Mother hated most, maybe that was one of the reasons she enjoyed it so much.

Another reason why the art of magic appealed to her, was because it felt natural, it felt right. It was as if it ran in her veins, not that she would know if it did, because to her, her father was just a gene donor, nothing more. Not that she could blame him though because her Mother had never told him and she didn't give up his name neither, even when she was too drunk or high to recall the night prior.

The fourteen year old performed in parks, squares and tourist attractions, basically where the money was most likely to come from. She was a street magician and a good one too. Her hard earned money went to straight into a jar she kept under her bed, hidden from her Mother, so one day she could leave and never come back. Bailey was an adventurous and curious girl who wanted to see the world, to experience the cultures and most importantly, taste the food. But living that lifestyle was only a dream, nothing more, because it couldn't come true.

Then one day, after performing magic to a decently sized audience, Bailey finds a tarot card and then everything changes. She becomes the Fifth Horseman and a few weeks later, she meets her father who does nothing but complicates the Horseman's plans for joining the eye. The all seeing eye bring joy and laughter to the world and their purpose is to determine the frauds from the real deal. And Bailey is what they hope, because she is magic and magic is her.

Temperance: Bailey receives the Temperance, hence the name of the book. The card symbolises balance, patience and that you have a clear vision and know what you want to achieve. It also shows adaptability and calmness which influences others.

Bailey: Before she receives the card, Bailey performs on street corners, in parks, the money she earns hidden from her mother so one day she can escape. When Bailey performs magic, she feels happy and complete, magic is a part of her.

notes:

• Kali has been abusive towards Bailey for as long as she could remember, but it only turned physical when she was nine. Kali always likes to tell Bailey that she was a mistake and that she should've gotten rid of her when she had the chance. By now, Bailey has become used to the endless insults, but they still hurt.

• When Dylan left Bailey the card he didn't know she was his daughter and was incredibly shocked to get a call telling him that he had a daughter he had no clue about.

• The Horseman are incredibly protective over Bailey, not just because she's the youngest, but also because they know about Bailey's horrible home life.

• During the year in which the Horseman are planning their shows to get into the eye, Kali dies of an overdose which is why Dylan is called in. They quickly establish that they're going to take it slow and not rush into a father daughter relationship. Instead Merritt takes custody of her which is why the FBI don't connect the dots between Dylan and Bailey.

• Bailey has no clue about her father's past, but she does know about him being FBI and tells the other Horseman about his job but not who he is. When it's revealed Dylan is behind it all, Bailey is shocked but quickly hugs him.

ACT ONE
now you see me 1

• Bailey receives the Temperance card telling her where to go and she meets the other Horseman. During the year in between, her mother dies and she meets her father and because he's FBI, that makes all the Horseman anxious. Dylan interrogates her alone, making sure that people don't connect the dots, he acts like he's disappointed in himself for not stopping her beforehand. At the end, Bailey is completely surprised to find out that the man behind it all was her father and then she tells the Horseman about their relation. Bailey goes with her father to see Alma Dray, exposing who they are to each other and the magical name they both now share: Shrike.

ACT TWO
now you see me 2

• Bailey helps her father with the plans and is incredibly close with the remaining Horseman. She's sad that Henley left but understands why. Bailey and Lula get along really well and quickly become good friends. Bailey worries for her Dad constantly after he's exposed to the world. When she goes to the magic shop, she sees a little dedication to Lionel Shrike and it makes her sad because she would've loved to have met him. Bailey follows Atlas to the market place where he tries to make a deal with the eye and is reunited with her father. When she sees the safe being loaded onto the truck, she instantly recognises it and knows what they're going to do. In London, Bailey introduces herself as Bailey Shrike, telling the world who her grandfather is before dedicating her performance to him. After the plane trick, Dylan is also introduced as Bailey's father.

If and when Now You See Me 3 comes out, it needs to be added to this timeline.
