IF THERE WAS ONE THING Zara Harkness knew for certain about her life it was that it was going to be a long one.

Born with the unfortunate genes of her recklessly brave Father, Zara became something no one thought was possible. She became Immortal. After discovering the fact that her daughter could heal from anything, Georgina Sanchez contacted her one night stand to hand over the child, not wanting to risk the heartbeat that would no doubt follow. Captain Jack Harkness had never seen himself as the parent type, but as soon as he set his eyes on her beautiful, jovial face he knew he would do his upmost to protect her and besides, she was the only other Immortal on the planet and he would be damned if he was going to let her go through that alone.

Zara never had a normal childhood, but what do you expect when you grow up surrounded by aliens and violence? So it was no surprise to her, Jack nor Torchwood when she joined the team as soon as she was old enough to. Battling alien threats and saving the day became her life, and even decades later, she still continued to be amazed by what Torchwood come face to face with on a daily basis. But there was a downside to her world of kicking alien ass and discovering new and interesting things, and that was that she was known as Jack's sister, not his daughter.

But even that won't stop them because the Immortal Harkness duo never give up, even if one of their own turns against them, even if the world ends and even if the whole of Reality is on the line, all because they have something to fight for: each other.

And for a woman born in the aftermath of World War II, Zara had to admit, she still looked pretty darn good for her age.

origin: A few weeks after being born, Zara managed to cut herself and Georgina watched in horror as the wound healed itself. Zara was handed over to her father who raised her. At first, she was known as his daughter but as she got older and he didn't, she's now known as his sister, which hurts them both. Zara was raised surrounded by aliens and her bedtime stories were about her father's adventure either on his own, with Torchwood, the Time Agency or the Doctor.

immortality: The Time energy that keeps Jack alive bonded slightly with his DNA so he passed it down to Zara. It was a one in a million or so chance, but Jack has a habit of defying the impossible. Jack ages slightly over a long period of time whereas Zara doesn't, her body constantly regenerates, she's stuck at a physical age of 25-30. She CAN'T come back from the dead. Basically she can heal her body from anything, unless there is no body to heal from.

notes:

• Zara is practically Immortal, but she can be killed. It's very hard to, but it's possible. So, it's easier just to say that she's Immortal even though, technically, she's not. She's about 90% Immortal.

• She's very protective over her family and her friends, especially over her half-sister and nephew.

• To avoid any questions, the current Torchwood believe Zara is Jack's half-sister instead of his daughter and that hurts her more than she would admit. When they find out about Jack, they find out about Zara too.

• Zara doesn't really have a love interest, but if she did, it would be an OC. I can just imagine Jack and his protective dad-mode if she ever brought someone home (Zara is pansexual and Jack is incredibly supportive).

• Zara and Jack have an incredible father-daughter relationship, but when she gets pissed off with him, she threatens to kill him. It's normal for them to threaten each other considering the fact that they're both Immortal. Jack is extremely protective over his baby girl, he would do anything for her.

ACT ONE
torchwood season 1

• Zara is in favour of Gwen joining Torchwood and is the first of the team to know about the true relationship between Jack and Zara. When the team find out about Jack, they also find out about Zara and the fact that they're father and daughter shocks them. Zara mainly sticks by Jack's side, she's the one person he can truly rely on; Jack trusts the team, but she knows everything.

ACT TWO
doctor who season 3

• Zara and Jack are swept off to the end of the Universe and she takes longer to wake up after the incident than her father. The Doctor is shocked and intrigued when she's introduced as Jack's daughter. Martha and Zara quickly become friends. Because Zara is more impossible than Jack, the Doctor is a bit cautious around her. After the Master takes control of Earth, she spends the year with Martha and helps to save the planet. She is then reunited with her father.

ACT THREE
torchwood season 2

• Zara doesn't like Captain John Hart so she does her best to protect her Dad. She's always there to comfort the team when things go wrong. When Adam arrives, she has a bad feeling about him and helps Jack to figure out the truth. Zara and Martha's reunion is so sweet because they spent an entire year on the run together, they're best friends. Gray doesn't hurt her because she's family and has done nothing wrong against him, proving that he has a heart, somewhere. Zara is broken after Tosh and Owen die, they were her family and she is sick of losing them.

ACT FOUR
doctor who season 4

• So this is a small act based during 'The Stolen Earth' and 'Journey's End'. Zara's at Torchwood and is terrified of the Daleks, she may not have seen one before but Jack has told her all about them. When Jack uses his Vortex manipulator, Zara teleports with him. On the Crucible, Zara is stuck with both The Doctor and Rose after her father is exterminated. She helps to save Reality and is then taken home.

ACT FIVE
children of earth

• Zara was 18 in 1965, it was just before she joined Torchwood. Jack never told her about what happened which makes her feel hurt because she thought he told her everything. After Torchwood blew up, she stuck with Gwen, to protect her and the baby. Losing Ianto broke her even more so she went with Gwen to tell his sister where they helped hide the children. When she hears the news of what happened to Steven, she practically disintegrates, she had lost so many people in a small amount of time. She understands why her father did what he did but that doesn't mean it hurts any less. Jack runs away, leaving her with Gwen and Rhys which makes her even more angry with him.

ACT SIX
miracle day

• When Zara cuts herself on accident, she realises she didn't heal. Her immortality goes along with Jack's and she rushes to find Gwen which is when she reunites with her Dad. Zara Harkness fights to get rid of Miracle Day along with the team and tries to stick with her Dad as much as possible, because she knew they had to have each other's backs. Rex, Esther and Zara realise what Gwen was doing and saved Jack. Zara ends up hiding with Esther and Jack. Because technically she's only half Immortal, her blood is not strong enough to fix the miracle. At the end, Rex becomes Immortal and Zara discovers that his immortality isn't permanent and will fade with time.

ACT SEVEN
doctor who season 12

• Jack sends Zara back with the 13th Doctor's companions where she reunites with her because he's being taken by the nanogenes. Zara then joins the gang and helps them with Praxeus, the nightmare gods and the cyberium. For the Doctor, it's nice to have some around who understands what she's saying. Zara sticks with the Doctor during 'Ascension of the Cyberman' and when she comes face to face with the Master, she goes to shoot him for all the pain he caused her father and Earth but the Doctor stops her. Zara ends up staying on Earth like the rest of them and helps Yaz to try and track the Doctor. As soon as she sees the Dalek video, she freezes because she hates Daleks. Zara is reunited with her father and then they go and visit Gwen.

The next time that Jack Harkness comes back to the Doctor Who Universe, it needs to be added to this timeline.
