PROGRESS REQUIRES SACRIFICE, OR SO she kept being told. People always agree with this until they are the sacrificial lamb offered up to science all in the name of the greater good. And for the ASA, Odette Kane was their lamb. Runways, orphans and the homeless are just three main groups of people that aren't particularly missed when they drop off the face of the earth, and Odette fell into the second one. Freeland's violence was what led to her parents' deaths and to the rest of the city, Odette met the same fate. In order for them to know whether or not their Greenlight experiment was going to work, they had to test it and made Odette the unwilling participant in their trials.

Whether or not it was lucky or unlucky she survived, Odette didn't know, the only thing certain was that the experiments had made her a Meta-human with peculiar abilities. Telepathy and Energy absorption were the 'gifts' she was given due to the illegal and inhumane tests she had gone through and because of those talents, she was able to escape the government's clutches.

Peter Gambi had left the ASA years ago, but still kept a tab on their big movements, so when he came across the kidnapping of Odette Kane, he knew he had to do something. He was there when she escaped and took her in with open arms, helping her back onto her feet. She was renamed Daniella Simmons and during the day, she was normal and went to school, but after the sun had gone down, she learnt to control her abilities with the help of Gambi. The tailor hadn't yet told Jefferson Pierce - the man he saw as his son - about Odette, hoping to keep the girl as far away from the vigilante life as he could, but that didn't last long.

After saving his daughter from Club 100, Jefferson tumbles into the tailor shop, injured and bleeding; he thought he was going to be met with Gambi's face but was surprised to see one of his students staring down at him. This then led Peter Gambi to explaining to Jefferson about Odette and what he had feared had come into reality. Becoming a hero wasn't something she intended, but as soon as she put on the suit, she knew it was who she was meant to be.

What she didn't know, not yet at least, was that she was also meant for something else: love. When she met Jennifer Pierce, her heart melted at the sight of her, making her believe she could experience it after all, because the stars in the girl's eyes made her dark and closed up heart light up with the hope that one day, she might have someone to call home.

Energy Absorption — Odette can absorb large amounts of energy and can redirect them. This comes in handy when they need to deal with Jennifer's power flares because she's one of the only ones that can touch her

notes:

• Odette and Jennifer are a medium burn and don't get together until around mid season two.

• Jennifer is Bisexual in this story and Odette is one hundred percent into girls; she respects the fact that Jen also like guys and occasionally playfully teases her about it.

• Odette's relationship with Gambi doesn't have a label other than the fact that she does call him her 'Guardian Angel' from time to time.

• She sometimes feels like a freak and before she met Jen, she felt as if she would never find love because of her powers.

ACT ONE
black lightning season 1

• Odette is living in the tailor shop with Gambi and no one knows she's there. When Odette realises someone has entered the shop, she goes and sees what's going on, only to find her Principal bleeding on the floor. Gambi quickly arrives and he helps Jefferson as well as explaining to the both of them who the other is. Odette becomes a super hero - you can decide her hero name - and she gets to know Jennifer Pierce and helps her when she discovers her powers. When the ASA come for them, Odette is determined not to go back into a cage.

ACT TWO
black lightning season 2

• Odette is making regular visits to Jen who is locked up in the house. She's helping the new vigilante Black Bird to raise enough money to help the Pod kids because she knows what it's like to be prodded and tested on. At the news of Gambi's death, Odette crumbles but quickly realises Jefferson's right and that Gambi is still alive. When Jen runs away, she almost breaks down and when Jen comes back, she admits her feelings for her, which are reciprocated and they get together. Odette understands that Khalil is her first love and is there for her when he passes. She never tries to stop Jen, because she's grieving for Khalil, but supports her through it.

ACT THREE
black lightning season 3

• Jen goes behind Odette's back to work with Odell, because she knew Odette would stop her. Odette is busy helping Anissa with smuggling out the metas. Odell also wants Odette's powers as well as Jennifer's because Odette can get into someone's head which is incredibly useful. The Pierce family have fully accepted Odette into their family.

ACT FOUR
black lightning season 4
