THE DOCTOR MOURNED THE TRAGIC loss of his wife, but unbeknownst to him she was still very much alive.

Grief stricken and broken, he believed that just like their children and grandchildren, the Time War had claimed her as its victim too, leaving him the last of his family and kind in the Universe. But he was wrong.

After being thrown into the past by the Time Lords for a reason that they declared 'her own safety', The Detective lived on, stuck in the time they had sent her to. She had no means of escape: no Tardis, no vortex manipulator, she had nothing. But she was a Time Lady, she knew a thing or two about time. It was Earth, late 1920s, where she had been sent to. Why there, she had no idea. But she had been to Earth so many times over the ages with her husband and their companions that she practically knew its history inside and out.

And it was because of that that she managed to survive the Wall Street Crash in 1929 with enough money to help those who had lost everything. The Detective had changed her name to Venus Draconis to blend in with the humans, all the while her mind was still stuck on the war and what may have happened to her family. With their fates unknown to her, The Detective tried to keep herself hopeful as the world came crashing down around her.

She managed to secure herself a position in the police force, much to her surprise, and tried her best to use her job to help those most had forgotten. And when she hears about all the disappearances in Hooverville, The Detective immediately sought out the establishment to help them. Soloman — their leader — allowed her to stay with them as she investigated the sudden disappearances of their friends. But her efforts were fruitless. There was something much bigger going on, she knew it, she just couldn't see the whole picture.

But then a strange man and woman stroll into Hooverville wearing threads that wouldn't be around for at least another few decades. And then The Detective knew: it was him. But the Time Lords had made sure she was hidden from them with the golden bracelet she wore around wrist which blocked their telepathy. So the Doctor walked straight past his wife with no clue it was her.

The Detective — known as Venus Draconis — must help her oblivious husband solve the mystery of Hooverville, all the while trying to gather the courage to tell him the truth. That she was in fact his missing wife, the love of his lives, that she was alive. Well... that's if he doesn't find out first.

the peculiar life of the detective

The Detective got her name because solves problems and is very good at it. So she likes to travel and help people, which is how she grew close with The Doctor. De and Doc knew each other at school where she knew him as Theta (you can pick her name) so they do know each other before they grow close. They fall in love, get married, have kids and then travel the stars together, solving problems as they go.

De loved all their companions like her own children and would always protect them and her and the Doctor miss them when they're gone.

Then the Time War hits and they're called home to fight, which neither of them want to do. The Detective was always more of the diplomat than her husband so she tries to reason with the High Council who grew to appreciate her advise and wisdom. So, when Gallifrey's days were numbered, they tossed the woman into a small rift in the time lock to protect her. It was a one way trip. The Doctor thought she had died, he felt her go.

The Detective landed in 1929 New York and immediately regenerated. It was the Wall Street Crash and the Great Depression so making money was hard even though she had somehow managed to get a job at the police station. So, she lived in Hooverville under the name Venus Draconis.

When the Doctor arrives with Martha, she instantly knows it's him and keeps her distance (she doesn't know how long it's been for him and she doesn't know what happened at the end of the war or even the fate of their family) but she does keep her eye on him. And he doesn't feel her because he thought she was dead and she switched off her telepathy.

notes:

Venus is an intelligent and strong time-lord, but sometimes her feelings cloud her judgement.

• Her and the Doctor have such good hearts, but they're both so broken. And together, they heal each other.

• When she finds out the fate of her planet and family, it's very tough for the Detective, she spends the next few episodes being devastated by it, understandably. She doesn't blame him for what happened, she knew she would have had to make the same choice.

• Okay, so with River Song... she's married to BOTH of them.  Honestly though, Doc and De arguing over what's best for their wife would be hilarious.

ACT ONE
doctor who season 3

The Detective is hiding out in Hooverville and when The Doctor arrives, she's scared to tell him and he only finds out when the Dalek scans her and reveals her to be a timelord and The Detective. He later tells her what happened to their home and family and she's devastated. Their relationship is rocky, but in the meantime, we have a BROTP developing with Martha. When The Doctor and The Detective turn human, they're not married but they have a spark even if John is sort of dating Joan. De loves Jack. She's shocked by the Master as much as The Doctor is. De can't escape the Master so she's trapped with her husband.

ACT TWO
doctor who season 4

• Donna's shocked when The Doctor says De is his wife, she can't believe someone would marry him. Donna and De are an iconic BROTP.  The whole thing with Jenny is very hard for De too., and she loved that girl from the beginning. River intrigues her immensely. Losing Donna is so painful for The Detective and she meets Rose. Now that, that's interesting. Your version will depend on your view on Rose. Some people really don't like her. The Detective is nice to her though, or at least tries to be. At the end, he regenerates and she stays with him.

ACT THREE
doctor who season 5

• New face for The Doctor! I think De should regenerate sometime during this season, but it's up to you when. They both care about Amelia so much which is why De is not happy when Amy tries to kiss her husband. But they work through it. De practically adopts Rory as Amy is more her husband's companion so Rory is hers.

I think you can do the rest from here, but if you ever have any question on a plot point, I'll be happy to help.

IMPORTANT —
anything not mentioned in this timeline is up to you to develop, giving you space for your own ideas. Also, if you have any questions, please private message me, I'm more than happy to answer them.
