GOTHAM CITY REMINDED LUCIFER OF HOME. The cesspool of sin welcomed him in with open arms after the devil decided to up and leave his throne of torment. Hell was getting boring after all those millennia, Lucifer just needed to get away from it all. Screams of the damned once brought joy to his soul but now they made it as heavy as the victims' agony. Punishing people was what he did best but even a master craftsman can grow tired of their work.

After his failed rebellion against his Father, Lucifer fell from the Silver City. Banished from Heaven and with death ready to greet him upon his return, Lucifer found himself the ruler of the dark cruel place known as Hell. Sure, it was wonderful to start off with. He could take his anger out on those who deserved to suffer and punish them for the atrocities of their lives. But after so many centuries of the same old cycle, the devil grew tired, of well, being the devil.

Humanity, as it appeared, seemed to blame him for all their wrongdoings which was wrong. He punished sinners, he did not create them. So Lucifer decided a vacation was needed.

Leaving Hell behind was much easier than he had previously thought. Before flying up to the mortal world, Lucifer had given away his throne to his most trusted demon, to ensure Hell would continue to run like clockwork in his absence. Sure, he was a little worried about what would transpire without him. But his desire to be free from his hellfire chains overwhelmed it.

Gotham was the sort of place Lucifer could live in for eternity. Its reputation most definitely preceded it. Many of Hell's cells were full of generations of Gothamites who could not escape the dark fate that gripped the city like a vice. The rich stayed rich whilst the poor remained poor. Lucifer, of course, managed to sail his way through society, ascending the ranks and gaining his fortune in such a short space of time.

And whilst he spent his days in his large office, managing his newly acquired empire, his nights were full of punishment and torture for the cruel and unjust of Gotham city.

It was through his nighttime activities that he ended up meeting the city's newest vigilante: Batman. The two quickly formed a crime fighting team to try and combat the plague of evil that consumed their home, not releasing who their partner was under their mask.

Batman and the devil were caught in Gotham's web, spinning and falling amongst the shadows that tried to pull them down. They were both damned, they were both sinners and they were both most certainly on the highway to Hell.

• Lucifer is the actual devil who rebelled against his father and as a result fell from Heaven and became the ruler of hell. But after ruling for so long, he grew tired of it and decided to go to the mortal world for a vacation.

• Lucifer ends up in Gotham, the city with the most crime in the world. Lucifer feels at home there and quickly begins to punish bad guys as 'The Devil'. He wears a mask to conceal his identity because he has a legal day job that he doesn't want to mess up. Being a vigilante is how he meets Batman.

• Lucifer owns a company that dabbles in a lot of things: from property to stock. He gets rich very quickly which is how he ends up with an invitation to Bruce's birthday party.

• Lucifer has the ability to bring out peoples' desires and also happens to be invulnerable to mortal weapons. He only uses his wings when he's kicking ass.

notes:

• Despite the faceclaim being Tom Ellis, this is not a crossover because everything from the Lucifer show did not happen to this Lucifer apart from the leaving Hell part.

• Lucifer leaves hell but keeps his wings which he uses whilst fighting bad guys. He also uses his other abilities and is really good at fighting.

• Lucifer doesn't really talk to his family at all during this book, it's just him and Bruce the entire time.

• Alfred would totally be so casual when he hears Lucifer is the actual devil. That butler has seen so much, he would probably believe anything.

ACT ONE
batman begins

• Lucifer took a vacation and is now not only a Gotham vigilante but a big businessman. He does wear a mask whilst fighting and people have come to name him 'The Devil'. He meets Batman and they establish a sort of partnership. Lucifer is invited to Bruce's birthday and when Bruce asks for them all to leave, Lucifer stays and is rather amused. Lucifer knows Ra's al Ghul who already has a place in Hell waiting for him. When Lucifer tries to protect Bruce, it is revealed he is the vigilante 'The Devil'. Lucifer is shocked when he finds out Bruce is Batman and Bruce cannot believe he is the actual devil. They save Gotham and have their first kiss in the burnt ruins of his home at the end.

ACT TWO
dark knight

• Lucifer and Bruce are a couple now but Bruce still tries and keeps up the playboy appearance. Bruce insisted Lucifer have a suit despite not needing one. They are the ultimate crime fighting duo. The Joker plays with Lucifer the same way he does with Bruce and works a lot more on the devil angle than the bat. Lucifer is there for Bruce when Rachel dies and ensures Bruce she made it into heaven. Both The Devil and The Batman took the fall for Harvey Dent's murder and they both go underground. Lucifer and Bruce's relationship deteriorates.

ACT THREE
dark knight rises

• After Bruce shut himself off, Lucifer went down to hell. But once he hears his former lover was in danger, he quickly left hell to go and help him only to find the city on the brink of ruin. Lucifer helps where he can and when he hears Bruce is back as Batman, he's delighted. He has no idea where Bruce is taken when he's kidnapped and Lucifer is left behind in the city where he joins the others in fighting back. Lucifer and Bruce rebuild their relationship and when Bruce fakes his death, they give Selina a new start then go off to explore the world together.
