CHAPTER FIVE, first date

Kalia stood in front of the door to Evie's and Mal's dorm, nervously fidgeting with her hands that were folded in front of her. The door opened, revealing Evie.

Evie smiles at Kalia. "Kalie! Hi, what's up?"

"I'm trying my best not to freak out but it's so hard." Kalia admitted, earning a concerned look from Evie.

"What's wrong?" Evie asked her.

"I have my first date ever and it's with Carlos. I'm so nervous." Kalia replies and Evie's face lit up. Kalia then starts to gamble nervously. "Like, what do I even wear? And what do I do with my hair? Up or down? Curls or not?" She groans. "Why does this have to be so complicated?"

Evie laughs lightly. "Don't worry, Kallie. I'll happily help you out."

Thanks to Evie, Kalia decided on what to wear. She decided on wearing the yellow dress she had made along with brown sandals and a flower necklace to match the dress. Evie helped braid her hair into a French braid and was currently finishing doing her makeup.

(kalia's outfit)

"I forgot to ask, where's Mal?" Kalia questioned, doing her best to stay still and close her eyes when needed since Evie was applying eyeshadow.

"Would you believe it if I said she was on a date with Ben?" Evie asked.

"Wait, really?" Kalia inquired, her voice laced with surprise. Evie smiles and nods. "Wow." Kalia said. "Mal didn't seem like the kind of girl who dates."

"Yeah, she's not. I'm pretty sure she never been on a date. But she said yes to Ben asking her out." Evie shrugs with a smile on her face. "And she seemed happy about it so that's good. I think they're supposed to get back sometime soon."

"Cool." Kalia smiled.

"Okay, and I'm done." Evie lays the brush on the table, smiling at Kalia. She picks up a hand mirror, holding it in front of Kalia so she can see what she looks like. "What do you think?"

Kalia's eyes widen with surprise as she looks at herself. "Evie, I love it! You did so good."

"Thanks." Evie grins. "I think Carlos won't be able to take his eyes off you "

Kalia blushes faintly and smiles widely. "Evie, what can't you do?" She asks, earning a giggle from Evie. "I mean, you can sew, you're so smart, and you're super good with using make up."

"Thank you. I think it helped that I was taught makeup basically before I could talk." Evie chuckled.

Kalia looks at her with a small frown. She hated how Evie and the others were treated especially by their parents. She thought despite being villains that even the parents would care about them but it seems like maybe not. "Wait, really?"

Evie shrugs, beginning to put away her makeup in her makeup bag. "Yeah, but that's in the past now so no need to talk about it."

Kalia got the hint she didn't want to continue the conversation and she changes the subject. "Well, thank you so much for your help." She tells Evie with a smile on her face. "I really appreciate it. I would be completely lost without you."

Evie smiles widely at her. "It's not a problem. I'm glad I could help." She gestures for Kalia to leave. "Now go and enjoy your date."

****

Kalia had wanted this date to be special, something that would take his breath away. And luckily she knew just the place. On the way to the specific place Kalia had in mind, Kalia and Carlos talked about anything and everything. Kalia's heart was racing the whole time she and Carlos walked in the forest. She was nervous yet excited for this. Unbeknownst to her, Carlos felt the same way. He never been on a date before and while he still felt guilty that she was under the love spell, he couldn't help but be excited about this.

"Are we there yet?" Carlos inquired as Kalia led him through the forest.

Kalia laughs. "Carlos, you gotta stop asking that."

"I'm just worried that I'll trip and fall on my face and I don't wanna embarrass myself in front of you." Carlos admitted. Since Kalia told him a few seconds ago to close his eyes, he was now trusting Kalia to not let him trip and fall.

"Don't worry, I got you." Kalia reassures him, holding onto his hand with a soft smile on her face. When she reached the destination she had in mind, she smiles at the familiar sight. "Okay." She lets go of Carlos' hand, facing him so he faced the right direction. "You can open your eyes now."

Carlos opens his eyes, his eyes widening out of shock. In front of him was a beautiful lake surrounded by lush trees. One tree he noticed had a treehouse built on it along with two swings that were built on the tree branches, and the swings were hung over the shallow part of the water. The sun was setting, casting a warm orange glow on the water, and the trees rustled in the gentle breeze.

"Wow." Carlos said, staring at the view in front of him in awe. "This is..."

"Beautiful, isn't it?" Kalia asked, smiling as she looked at the lake.

"Yeah, it is." Carlos replied, glancing at her with a soft smile.

Kalia looks at him with a smile, butterflies swarming in her stomach and her face heats up because of the fact he was looking at her when he replied. "Okay, come on." Kalia grinned, grabbing onto his hand and pulled him towards the treehouse.

"Has this always been here?" Carlos questioned, walking up the steps that led to the treehouse along with Kalia.

"Nope." Kalia shakes her head. "Ben, Flynnley, and I made it when we were little." She smiles when she reached the treehouse and walks inside. "We use to come here all the time, but we haven't been able to lately since we've been either busy with school or with other things." She shrugs. "But I come here a lot without them. This is the place I usually go to when I want alone time and a quiet place to think."

"This is so cool." Carlos smiles, standing by her at the railing of the treehouse. He glances down at the lake. "We have nothing like this at the Isle."

"Really?" Kalia asked with surprise, frowning slightly when he shook his head in response. "Well," She smiles brightly at him. "You're always welcome to come here." She chuckles, playfully nudging him. "Better be happy about that, I don't let just anyone to come here. No one but Ben, Flynnley, and I know about this place."

Carlos looks at her with surprise, his heart warming because of the fact she showed him a place that meant a lot to her. "Thanks." He smiled at her.

Kalia nods in response, her eyes lighting up when she heard a familiar bird call. She smiles widely when a blue bird perched on the railing next to her. "Hi, Blue." She greeted, petting the bird who chirped cheerfully in response.

"You have a pet bird?" Carlos questioned, his voice laced with surprise as his eyes widened.

"I wouldn't really call him a pet." Kalia replies, outstretching her right index finger to let Blue sit her finger. She then turns to face Carlos, letting him get a closer look at Blue. "More like an animal champion." She smiles at Carlos. "Like what Dude is for you."

Carlos smiles softly and glances at Blue. "Hi, Blue." He greeted, petting Blue's head.

Kalia laughs a bit when Blue flew from her finger to rest on Carlos' shoulder, chirping as he nuzzled his head against Carlos' cheek. "I think he likes you." She smiles softly, ignoring the light shade of blush appearing on her face. "That's good 'cause I like you too."

Carlos couldn't help the way his face heat up and how a shy smile made its way to his lips. "I like you too."

The two teens then sat down on the blanket Kalia had set up and ate dinner from the picnic basket Kalia had brought with them. They talked and laughed, feeling more comfortable with each other with each passing moment. Afterwards, they moved to sit on the swings below the tree house and Blue was now sitting on the swing beside Kalia. When Kalia suggested for them to go swimming, Carlos panicked. He was nervous and embarrassed about the fact he didn't know how to swim.

"You don't know how to swim?" Kalia asks with surprise. She chuckles a bit. "You live on an island." She figured Carlos would know how to swim since water surrounded the Isle.

"Just 'cause I live on an island doesn't mean I go in the water." Carlos replied, nervously glancing out at the water. Kalia, being the kind and caring person she was, offered to teach him.

Kalia smiles softly, reaching over to grab his hand to get him to look at her. He looks at her, still looking nervous about this. "Hey, it's okay. I can teach you if you want."

"Really?" Carlos questioned. He honestly always wanted to learn how to swim, he just never had the chance or didn't know of anyone who would be willing to teach him.

"Yeah." Kalia nodded, smiling reassuringly.

Carlos glances at the water with a hesitant expression. He takes a deep breath before looking at Kalia. "Okay."

****

Thanks to Kalia's expert guidance, Carlos eventually got the hang of swimming and grew more confident with swimming in the water. Carlos was thankful to have her support because he wasn't sure if he would've been able to do it without her. Now the two of them sat on the sandy shore on a towel with towels around them to help dry them off. Kalia was now wearing the one piece yellow swimsuit she had wore under her dress and Carlos had shorts on and his shirt off.

They were quiet, enjoying each other's presence as they watched the sun set.  "Thank you." Carlos suddenly said, gaining a confused look from Kalia.

"What for?" Kalia asked him.

"For tonight." Carlos looks at her with a soft smile. "Tonight was honestly the best night of my life."

Kalia returns the soft smile, feeling the warmth spread through her body. "Yeah, I agree. You're welcome. I'm glad you had fun. I had fun too. Carlos, would you like to be my boyfriend?"

Carlos' heart skips a beat and he nods. "I'd love to be your boyfriend."

Kalia smiled widely and scooted closer to him, leaning her head on his shoulder as they both looked back at the lake. He froze when she laid her head on his shoulder, but he was quick to relax, glancing at her with a fond smile. He got a burst of courage to intertwine his hand with hers and laid his head on top of hers. Unbeknownst to Carlos, this lake had enchanted water, much like the Enchanted Lake that people knew about in Auradon. When Kalia went under water, the love spell was washed away. That was when she realized she was spelled. Sure, she was upset and confused why he spelled her, but she pushed those thoughts to the back of her mind. Her feelings for Carlos still haven't changed. She had a crush on Carlos before and still does. She just hoped when she told him she wasn't spelled anymore that things between them wouldn't change.
