67 Days After

"Wow, you never fail to amaze me, Tobio." Hinata had just gotten home, and his apartment was adorned with all different kinds of flowers. It was their third year anniversary since they started dating, and Hinata was in charge of planning their night, but that didn't mean Kageyama wasn't going to do anything. He had fixed a special breakfast that morning, getting up even earlier than Hinata usually did, and now this. "It's beautiful."

"I'm glad you like it," Kageyama walked over to his boyfriend and pulled him into a long, slow kiss. "I love you, Shoyo."

"I love you, too, Tobio."

Hinata alert with excitement for that night. It was supposed to be exceptionally nice weather, so Hinata had planned a picnic for the two of them at the lakeshore where the sunset reflected off the water and showered the whole area in a golden light.

"So, what's the dress code for tonight? Black tie? Homeless? Circus?"

"Oh definitely circus, I want your best clown suit, alright?" Hinata joked.

"No seriously, what should I wear?"

"Wear something nice, but just so you're nice to look at. We're not dressing up for anyone other than each other tonight," Hinata said.

"Is that implying that I'm not nice to look at when I'm not dressed up?" Kageyama countered, a mock pout on his face. Hinata shot him a sarcastic, irritated glare.

"Do you really think I would be with you if you weren't nice to look at?"

"Is that all I am to you?" Kageyama stumbled with fake despair. "Just an object for you to rest your hungry eyes upon?" He feigned swooning.

"Yep. Purely eye candy. Sorry, I thought you knew," Hinata said offhandedly, cracking a smile. He had missed the banter between the two of them. Hinata threw a sweatshirt at his boyfriend. "Now go! Get dressed! I have a full night planned!"

Kageyama caught the sweatshirt midair and retreated back to the bed room. Hinata put his stuff down on the table and sniffed the flowers in the vase. He had a good feeling about tonight. Everything would be fine. No, not fine, good. Amazing. Wonderful.

About half an hour later, they were both ready to leave, dressed in each other's favorite outfits. Hinata had a packed satchel with a blanket and few other picnic essentials.

"First we're dropping by Nishinoya's restaurant to pick up our food," Hinata said as they stepped out the door.

"Pick up?"

"Yep!" Hinata provided no further information.

"You know, three years seems kinda fake," Kageyama said after a while.

"In what way?"

"I don't know, it just seems like, like I've known you my whole life. Like three years doesn't encompass everything we have," Kageyama said, looking up at the sky in thought.

"Yeah, I get that. Maybe we knew each other in a past life, and that's why. Like this isn't really our third anniversary, and it's actually our 97th," Hinata said, and looking at Kageyama, he almost believed it.

"97th? Wow, our past selves must have lived to have been super old."

"Maybe we were turtles. Turtle soulmates." Kageyama laughed out loud. What a beautiful sound.

"I'd like to think that we were together in more than one previous lifetimes. Like maybe, the last versions of ourselves both died horrible deaths when they were 17, but before that we lived to the ripe old age of 83, and so on. Oh, and of course, we died at the same time. As true soulmates do."

"Why did we have to die tragic deaths at 17? That's so sad! Either way, I like your idea better than us having been turtles," Hinata said, leaning into Kageyama and grabbing his hand. "Even though it would be cool to be a 100-year-old turtle," Hinata muttered to Kageyama's chuckling.

"It's a comforting thought, though, you know, to think that even after death, even in the next life, you'll always have your person, your other half," Kageyama said wistfully.

"Yeah, it is nice." Hinata smiled to himself, squeezing Kageyama's hand just a little tighter. He was never going to let him go, not ever. Once they arrived at the restaurant , Nishinoya greeted them and handed them a few bags with food in take-out boxes, along with a bottle of wine.

"Thanks so much, Noya," Hinata said.

"Only the best for you, Shoyo," Nishinoya said, blowing a kiss at the two and laughing good naturedly.

"See ya!" They walked out and Hinata started towards the lake, Kageyama close behind.

"So, uh, where exactly are we going?"

"You'll see!" Hinata said cheerfully.

"You're impossible," Kageyama said, laughing. They were both in exceptionally good moods that night. Hinata could barely keep himself from bursting with joy. This was it, this was what is was supposed to be like. Things were finally back to normal.

After about 10 minutes of walking, they were finally at the lake. Hinata stopped under a tree just a few yards from the bank.

"This is where we are eating!" he announced, earning a smile from Kageyama.

"I'll have to say this is not what I was expecting, but sure, okay!" Hinata laid down the blanket and they started to spread out the food from Nishinoya.

"Wow, Noya kinda went hard this time," Kageyama said, admiring the spread.

"Yeah, sometimes I still can't believe that he's actually a gourmet chef. Like, what?"

After helping themselves to the food the two leaned up against the giant tree and watched as the sun sunk closer and closer to the water.

"Thanks for doing this, Shoyo. It's really nice, better than sitting inside anywhere."

"Yeah, I thought it would be nice," Hinata said, his head resting on Kageyama's shoulder. It was so nice to just... be with him. Just to exist in the arms of the person he loved most. "I love you, Tobio."

"I love you, too, Shoyo."

They spent the rest of the night talking and eating and drinking and cuddling, Hinata repeatedly trying to sneak pictures of Kageyama during golden hour just because he couldn't believe how beautiful his boyfriend looked. Once the sun had set and the stars come out, they looked up at the sky and made up constellations about each other, some poking more fun than others. They laid on their backs, their shoulders pressed up against each other and their hands entwined, and Hinata didn't think he had ever been happier.

At one point, Hinata stood up, gesturing for Kageyama to follow. Hinata took Kageyama's hand and pulled him close, placing one hand on his shoulder and leaving his other hand entwined with Kageyama's. Then he started swaying.

"Are you... dancing?" Kageyama asked, confused.

"Shh..." Hinata leaned his head against Kageyama's chest.

"We don't have any music, dumbass."

"We don't need music to dance, Tobio," Hinata said, looking up at Kageyama with those wide, brown eyes that Kageyama just could not say no to.

So, we wrapped his arm around Hinata's waist and started swaying in time, the cool breeze ruffling his hair. And they just stayed like that for a while, Hinata's cheek pressed against Kageyama's chest and Kageyama pulling the two closer every moment.

Kageyama couldn't believe how at peace he felt. It was like the whole world had disappeared, and the only things left were him and Hinata. There was no history, no baggage, no depression. Just this warmth in his heart, the warmth that told him everything was going to be okay. Because here he was, dancing in the dark, with the love of his life.

He was here with Hinata. And that was all that mattered.

Once the temperature started to drop, the two cleaned up everything, throwing away the empty boxes and consolidating all the extra food into just a few boxes to take home.

Being a little tipsy, it took the two longer than normal to get back to the apartment. Hinata kept stopping on the sidewalk to kiss Kageyama and Kageyama kept forgetting which way to go.

Once back at the apartment, Hinata dumped the leftovers on the counter and pulled Kageyama in for the most passionate kiss of the night. Their lips moved roughly in sync, years of familiarity sparking between them.

As the kiss grew deeper, Kageyama fiddled with the hem of Hinata's shirt in a moment of indecision before pulling it up over the shorter boy's head. Kageyama pulled into back in for a kiss while Hinata was furiously unbuttoning Kageyama's shirt. Once all the buttons were undone, Hinata pushed the shirt of Kageyama's shoulders and yanked at the sleeves to get it off.

Their bodies slammed back together and Kageyama felt Hinata smile against his mouth. Both were panting heavily and Hinata thought that tonight, maybe, just maybe, could be the night.

Hinata slowly started to guide Kageyama towards the bedroom, taking small steps backwards. Kageyama broke away to gasp for breath and Hinata took the opportunity to plant a kiss on Kageyama's jaw and slowly work his way down his neck towards his collarbone, biting and sucking the soft skin as he went.

At the base of his neck, Hinata bit down particularly hard and Kageyama moaned in pain.

"Shoyo..."

"Sorry, was it too much?" Hinata said, resting his head against Kageyama's bare chest and catching his breath.

"No, it's fine. It's good." Hinata smiled and kissed Kageyama's sternum.

"Do you wanna..." Hinata didn't finish his question and instead just looked towards their bedroom. Still panting, Kageyama nodded.

"Yeah. Yeah, I do." Hinata smiled and started tugging on Kageyama's belt loops, pulling him towards the bedroom. Kageyama kept their lips connected while they stumbled towards the bedroom.

They collapsed on the bed and Hinata already had Kageyama's belt undone, his own soon to follow.

"Are you sure?" Hinata asked, checking one last time.

"Yeah, I am."
