Ch31: A Brief Reprieve

(Kagome POV - 3 days later - Modern Era)

Three days, it had been three days since the fight with Hiten and Manten. It was back to school with me the day after.

Honestly after everything that happened this past week for me I could use the chance to interact with my friends from school and have a semblance of a normal life for a while.

I could do without all the excuses Gramps kept making up for my absence... seriously some of the stuff he made up was ridiculous.

How anyone could believe him was a mystery.

At least Y/N had the excuse of an inherital medical condition from his mother's side, which was used to explain his absence when he first got his powers and even now.

Though I hate that I have to be one get his schoolwork and homework for the past few days, with his condition he was lucky to be alive as Kaede had put it though he has improved greatly over the past few days.

It was also then we made quite a discovery.

(Flashback - Three days ago - Sengoku Jidai)

Currently I was waiting outside of Kaede's house, holding Shippō as he was asleep in my arms as it turned to night.

We got here at breakneck speeds with Inuko carrying both Y/N and Yura. We managed to get them to the village ad the sun started to set, my legs sore from pedaling on my bike just to keep up with Inuko.

When we reached the village and told Kaede what happened, she immediately ushered in the three of them for treatment and told me and a worried Shippō to wait outside.

It was hard to be honest, especially with everyone worried about him.

Much less so for Yura though.

Still Kaede probably had me wait outside for my own good as every now and then mist would pour outside of the house and Inuko's occasional curses meaning his powers going out of control again. That and probably whatever it took to save his life as well.

So I had been waiting for any news on his progress, with Shippō having to fall asleep from the events of the day.

Believe me, I wish to sleep too after everything today but I need to make sure that Y/N is well since he nearly died with Hiten.

Speaking of which...still don't know what to think of here but from now on we have to make sure to stay extra vigilant next time we return. Besides anyone else looking for the jewel shards we now had a hedonistic, battle crazy raijū gunning for us along with Inuko's flat chested bitch of a sister.

Both out for Inuko's blood and both have some sort of interest in Y/N. One I can not understand and prefer not to along with a strong desire to kill me. The other one...I would prefer not to think about what Hiten would want to do with us inorder to preserve my sanity right now.

So I guess things were only to get harder for us from now on... still we need to continue on.

In order to make sure my family remains safe and if possible restore Y/N's humanity.

"Girl come on in, and make sure to wake the kit up." Inuko said as she walked outside of Kaede's home, bandages covering where Hiten had cut her up.

"Y/N is he-" I tried to ask, but Inuko cut me off.

"He's stable for now and Kaede said he should be alright in a few days...he's going to in a lot of pain though. He was even awake for a few seconds." She said surprising me.

"Why didn't you or anyone tell me?" I shouted at her, getting Shippō to stir in his sleep and Inuko to wince.

"It only just happened and he was only awake long enough to tell the hair bitch that he was glade that she was okay before fainting once again." Inuko said, grumbling out the last part and calming me down somewhat

I was disappointed that I only just missed him being awake and that he talked about Yura.

But then again she was in horrid condition the last time either he or myself saw her, so I can't really fault him for that.

"So Yura's awake now?" I said with gritted teeth, getting Inuko to nod.

"But that's not even the worst of it." Inuko said looking a little grim. "It has nothing to due to Y/N's current condition thankfully but it is best to hear it from Kaede."

With that she walked back into the house, Shippō woke up and groggily rubbed his eyes.

"Is Y/N okay?" Shippō asked worried as I set the kit down onto the ground.

"He's asleep right now, but Inuko said he is alright for now. We can go see him, but please stay close to me. Yura's awake as well, I don't think she will try anything, but it couldn't hurt to be too safe." I said, worried about what Inuko could be talking about.

"Okay stay away from the creepy lady and stay close to you, got it." Shippō said drowsily as the two of us walked into Kaede's home.

Inside Y/N was laid out on a tatami mat, frost coated bandages covering his shoulder and his chest with the jewel shard glowing through them.

With to my annoyance Yura fully restored and was trying to cling to Y/N...if not for Inuko holding her back.

"Let me go I need to make sure Master is alright." Yura said while struggling to get out of the inugami hanyo's grip.

"No can do you hairy bitch." Inuko growled out as she kept her hold on Yura.

Kaede sighed out as she was grounding some herbs together into a paste at the table before noticing me.

"Kagome if you could." The old miko said, gesturing to the comb on the table and getting me to grin.

I might not be able to break it without upsetting Y/N, but I was going to enjoy what came next.

I hurriedly snatched it from the table just as Yura noticed me. She went wide eyes with fear as she saw the comb in my hand and went limp as Inuko dragged her away from Y/N.

"Thanks for the assistance girl." Inuko said as she sat herself and Yura down around the table.

Getting a feeling of what was about to happen I turned to Shippō.

"Why don't you go over to Y/N for right now, I will be there in a few minutes. Okay?" I asked Shippō getting him to nod.

"Okay." Shippō said as he rushed to Y/N as I walked over to the table.

"Why does the kitsune brat get to go to him." Yura grumbled out.

"He's a kid and won't try anything while Y/N is unconscious." I said dryly.

"We don't really trust you that much." Inuko said bluntly.

"You also tried to killed all of us as well." Kaede said with equal bluntness.

Yura looked between the three of us and her comb before hugging and crossing her arms and looking away from me.

"Fair enough." She grumbled out.

"Alright with that out of the way, I believe you should be the one to explain to them about Y/N, I will give them the bad news." Inuko said, getting Kaede to nod before facing us.

"Y/N will be fine for the most part. Though in a lot of pain, which this powder should help. Mix it water twice a day and it will help. And Kagome, does your time have something for those who's legs don't work?" Kaede asked, getting my heart to drop.

Oh please no...

"We do, several infact. Does that mean-" I said, Kaede cut me off by raising a hand in order to silence me.

"If you are asking if he can't walk again you are wrong. His legs have atrophied, but he should be able to walk on his own in about a week. Until then he will be unable to walk at all for the first few days, but after that he will be fine." Kaede explained, getting both me and Yura to breath out a sigh of relief.

"Oh thank Amaterasu." I breathed out, while it wasn't necessary good news at least it was a lot better then what had feared. "So besides that, we cannot bring him into contact with anymore jewel shards while he recovers, that was something we already had planned before this mess of a week started."

"Correct, otherwise their is no telling what will happen. " Kaede said, getting me to nod.

"Considering that he is more or less like  an inferior Shikon Jewel at this point." Inuko said, getting both me and Yura to look at her in shock.

"What?!" The both of us screamed out in shock.

"Well that is what me and Kaede believe. Or at least empowerment. It is the only way to say why the thunder bitch was revived and back to when she faced us. And think about the hairy bitch, did you see any hairs outside of the house at all while waiting?" Inuko said getting me to shake my head.

"So are you telling that all of this was from my barley function body and master, and nothing from my nest." Yura said as she inspected her body, flexing her hands as if to create some strands.

However nothing happened.

"The power Y/N restored to you seems to have lessened the cost of needed to recreate your body, but only by that amount." Kaede explained, getting Yura to grin.

"Still that means I collect as much hair as I wish and will not have be as fickle with using my hair. So thank you master for this gift." Yura said happily, getting me to sigh.

Well that's just great, so Yura's now about as dangerous when we faced her. At least we are stronger and better equipped to deal with her now. Especially since I held her true form in my hand.

One snap and the tsugumogami harlot's life is over.

"Seems that way, but there is something that needs to be proven first." Kaede said.

"And what exactly needs to be proven?" I asked, a feeling of dread building in my stomach.

"Hand Yura another shard and if she tries anything you know what to do." Inuko said dryly.

And there it is.

"You have got to be kidding me, your going to being her to Y/N with that shard are you?" I said, glaring at Yura who was looking a little snug right now.

I am tempted to break her comb now.

"Just for a few seconds, but after that bring her to Y/N. We have to know if there is a limit to this phenomenon." Kaede explained.

"Simple imagine if word of this got out girl, anyone could make themselves stronger through him if they had multiple shards like that thunder bitch. Better to test it here then any where else." Inuko said, getting me to sigh.

As much as I hate to admit it, Inuko had a point.

We had to make sure the depth of this ability or otherwise it could end up with Y/N being as sought after as the Shikon Jewel shards where.

The chance to use the shards one at a time and gradually increase your own power insurmountably...that was a chance too great for most to pass up on and a terrifying thing to think about.

And judging by her reaction Yura was having similar thoughts to my own. Though she also looked absolutely giddy and annoyed as the prospect as well.

Fine.

"Fine here you go, by the moment you try anything you are nothing more then a distant but annoying memory." I said, applying pressure to her come and getting Yura to wince.

"Alright, alright just let go." Yura said, half pleaded as I let go of her comb with a smirk.

With that my mood soured as pulled out one of the shards we retrieved from Hiten and tossed towards her.

I saw it start to sink into her skin and her hairs started to sprout from her hands and started to snake their way towards me.

"This feels-" Yura tried to said with a little excitement in her voice, until me and Inuko cut her off.

By tightening the grip on her comb and ripping the shard from her body.

"Did you two really have to do that." Yura snapped at us, getting both me and Kaede to stare blankly at her.

"Seems like we did, now try anything else with Y/N and it will hurt a lot more then that got it." Inuko growled out.

"Fine I won't you bitch." Yura grumbled out. "Not that I can with something like that." She muttered under her breath.

What was she talking about?

Looking back at Y/N I saw what she was seeing.

And tried my best not to let out at how cute it was.

For on Y/N and hugging him was Shippō, the both of them sound asleep by now.

I guess I had underestimated how tired Shippō was, still this was just too precious for me to handle!

Inuko just sighed as she walked with Yura over to Y/N. The latter put her hand over his shard and it pulsed for a second...but nothing happened.

"Looks like it only works once." Yura sighed out as she removed her hand.

"And only for those who actively used the Shikon Jewel or the shards. Believe me I tried and I held it before getting strung up in that damned tree." Inuko said with some venom in her voice. "Never got a chance to use it, so it will never work on me."

Probably for the best.

"And probably for me as well, despite literally being born with it." I said, actually kind of glad of that.

I saw what the whole jewel could do and all the trouble the shards have brought us so far, it was not worth it.

"It is for the best, but if there another chance for him to use that ability take it. Y/N is only alive due to dispersing the excess energy of the gem shards into Hiten and Yura. For now keep him in your era otherwise there is no telling how Y/N will react to another shard so soon." Kaede said, getting myself to nod nod as I gave one more look at Y/N.

How was I going to explain this to Gramps and my family.

(Flashback end - Modern day)

Actually it turned out better then I expected, after getting Y/N back to the modern era with Yura's and Inuko's help.

Of course I had to tell Gramps and Mom everything, but in the end they responded accordingly in getting Y/N a wheelchair the next day.

When it came time to discuss about going back to the Sengoku Jidai, mom was supportive.

As for Gramp's reaction, honestly I should have expected him to have acted a little protective of Y/N. He always has been whenever he was in danger, especially after our fathers died.

Once he was sure that I would be alright and mom assured him that I would be alright Gramps was more then happy for me to continue going back to the Sengoku Jidai.

Especially after hearing about me exorcising the Tsukumo no Gama from the daiymo...he actually cried tears of joy and declared how proud he was of me.

However the topic of Y/N coming back with us...Gramps never had an answer. He would always look for something else to say, kept quit on the matter, or say he would decide later.

I have never seen Gramps like this towards anything in my entire life. I guess he must be more worried then Y/N then I thought he was.

I honestly hope Gramps snaps out of that mood soon, otherwise if he continues this way then I am not sure how he will react. Still we were at least 5 days away from the time to head back there and 4 days until he turns 15.

There was plenty of time for things to change and hopefully for the better, as after the events we had this past week.

That and I could finally get a chance to tell Y/N.

I was confident now I could tell him...but I would prefer for him to recover a bit more first.

It hurt me to see him confined to a wheelchair and being unable to go to school together.

Still yesterday he said to have gotten some feeling back into his legs. So hopefully he has recovered just by some more. Then I can tell him.

That's if I was in denial and trying to delay it, which I am not!

Hopefully...

Moving past those dreaded thouhts I approached his house when I saw him being pushed in his wheelchair by Yura. Who was wearing a black tank top and jeans.

Picked out by my mother as her regular clothing was a bit too risque to be called that in the modern era. At least during the day and not outside some of the more seedier places you could think of.

In fact that was where she had been off too for the past two nights whenever she wasn't around Y/N or back in her own era.

At least what we could figure out anyway.

Considering their had been rumors, gossip, and brief news article about a spirit that tempts married, rich, or handsome men into alleyways as a prostitute. Then knocking them out and leaving their heads completely bald, it was a safe bet that it was Yura.

Y/N had tried to talk her about it, but to no avail.

Other then that she just hangs around Y/N or samples whatever hair care products which she could get her hands on.

"Master are you sure that it is necessary for you to be without me for a while?" Yura asked as she pushed him forward.

"I'll be fine, just going to be helping Grandpa with a few things, besides don't you need to rebuild your nest with all the hair you got last night." Y/N said, his tone a little dryly at the end.

"At least that I am not leaving anyone in these 'alleyways' unconscious anymore like you said master." Yura said, getting Y/N to sigh.

"That's the best I am going to get on this matter, isn't it?" He asked, getting Yura to nod happily before she notice me and her mood soured a bit.

However Y/N smiled when he saw me.

Before he began to cough and clutch his chest in pain.

"Please tell me that you didn't forget to take the medicine Y/N." I sighed out as Yura got him a bottle of water with her hairs.

"Thank you." He wheezed out to Yura before taking a sip from it. "Not at all, it helps but it doesn't take all the pain away. Though at least I'm getting better with my current condition. I can almost stand up on my own now."

"Really, that's great." I said happily, glade that he was alright. "So you be heading back to school soon."

"Hopefully, although it is probably going to be difficult to adjust going between there and the Sengoku Jidai." Y/N sighed out, getting me to nod.

"Believe me it is hard. I can't tell my friends about any of this, otherwise they would probably think that  I am crazy. That and with how many people believe Gramp's excuses for me it is a bit chaotic to me. But I believe that after surviving last week we could probably make it through just about everything by now." I said, getting Y/N to nod in agreement.

"Guess your right Kagome, but at least you won't have people asking about yourself being your oent inspiration." Y/N said with a slight annoyance to his tone, getting me to chuckle a little.

I tried, I honestly tried. But that particular situation was a bit humorous.

Turns out to that a day after we returned, either we had changed the timeline or it was always meant to be.

The painting he created of Amari and Tsuyu was found and another that surprised all of us.

A painting featuring the two of them, looking just a little older and in more regal kimonos along with two other people.

The same daiymo that we helpeded out and a younger Nobunga Oda.

Looking through for further details it turned out that it was a portrait of one of Nobunga's retainers marriage by none other then Y/N himself.

Someone mentioned by Nobunga himself to be the best artisan Nippon had ever seen in writings.

Someone who the world had thought as a myth, a ronin said to have once painted 108 paintings in a single day and that he hid away only his best works so they wouldn't be burnt by jealous artisans.

A myth that which until discovery proved true.

Now Japan and art collectors around the world were looking high and low all over the nation to find the works that art critics were claiming to have been a genius for using techniques not found in Japan for a  hundred or two hundred years to come.

If only they knew they were painted by a  regular high schooler who had a talent for painting.

So now we were both bombed by questions if Y/N was an inspiration to himself or his parents named him that because they thought he would be an exceptional painter like his own name sake.

Something that quickly grew to annoy him a little and something both me and Inuko found a little humourous.

Still this left many questions on what lies in our future if something like this happened and how the two of them married.

I am curious and both me and Y/N had  tried to look for any details about what happened with Amari, Tsuyu, and himself but to no avail. Especially with himself, it was just mostly speculation, rumors, and myths.

So in the end it was decided not just wait and see what comes up concerning this matter, otherwise it will only create a bigger headache sorting through the entire matter.

"Can you please stop Kagome." Y/N sighed out, breaking me from my thoughts.

Guess that I have been too lost in thought then.

"Sorry Y/N." I said, getting him to wave his hand in dismissal.

"It's alright, although this is going to take a bit to get used too." Y/N sighed out, getting me to nod.

" I suppose so master, you are rightfully deserving such praise but you can not accept it. That is quite the problem. But no matter what, you can always count that I know the truth master and that is all that matters. That and the girl and her family too I suppose." Yura said while hugging Y/N from the back of his wheelchair, throwing me a snug look.

That hairy bitch!

"Thanks Yura, I think." Y/N said as he turned to face me. "Aren't you going to  be late Kagome?"

As soon as he said that I took out my phone to check the time and he was right!

Damn it all!

I don't know that I was getting plenty leeway for with missing so many days in a row, but if I was late I doubt I would continue to receive the same treatment.

"Your right, looks like I have to cut this short. So I will see you after school then Y/N. " I said, getting him to nod.

"I will see you then, hopefully we can find away to bring Shippō back with us." I sighed out, getting Y/N to nod.

All of us had tried to bring the kitsune over to the modern era through the well, but everytime we tried he was stuck back in the Sengoku Jidai.

I know he was really looking forward to coming here, especially after hearing about my little brother.

A feeling that Sōta shared as well.

So we were not going to stop trying until that happened.

And I better get going.

"See you later Kagome." Y/N said as he waved goodbye as I took off running.

I waved back to him as he and Yura faded into the distance as I ran past houses in order not to be late.

After that, well hopefully everything will be alright when I get home today and we can bring Shippō home.

And this time... I can finally tell him.

(Chapter 31 end)

Hey guys Mukuro7 and I hoped that you enjoyed this chapter.

As you can see Y/N is recovering from his brush with death while gaining a new facet to his curse, Kagome readjusting to this new life of theirs, their actions turning up interesting results. Along with the  mention of Yura causing chaos in the modern era.

So while they are all trying to adjust to this new life between two eras they still have quite a ways to ago with a few things like Y/N's recovery and Shippō still being stuck in the past. Events that will be going on and resolved in this arc.

Anyway next chapter Kagome will discover that she accidentally invited Murphy's law and will find herself dealing with an old threat of the Higurashi clan. So I hope that you all will enjoy the next chapter when it comes out.

But before we go their is three things that I would like to say.

First off, a lot of people have been asking for Sesshōmaru's mother for the harem... I will consider it but that option is going to be tough to cover.

Secondly... thank you all for the support. Seriously from the last main chapter we are now well past 100k reads into around 110k reads and 2300k votes. That is the largest leap in any story I have written has occured and I have to say to all of you, thank you for all your support. I couldn't have done all of this without you.

So until next time, ciao!
