VI. He's losing hope
"Hi Matty! It's been a long time! Get in!"
Audrey wasn't like Sam or Maude. She was very polite, humble and 'natural' (his mom said so). Maybe the fact that she doesn't get along with the other two shows how really different she is form them. Especially Maude. They have fought before:
"Can you smoke outside?" Tony and Audrey were visiting that one time and Audrey just couldn't help herself. She hated when the house didn't smell like flowers and cleaning products. Fine, she was a cleaning maniac. She took her obsession with her everywhere.
"This is not your house! What the hell?" And of course, Maude, being Maude, snapped.
"That's not it."
"Oh! You think it's your house now! You're engaged! You're better than me! Audrey Ketchum! Tell you what; I don't care. Get the f*ck out of my face or I'm breaking those legs you're so proud of!"
And thank God Chris was around that time.
It was Audrey who took the blame really. Tony blamed her for everything and told her to leave the girl alone. Of course, Dylan can't tell Maude the same thing. He told her not to mind Audrey "She thinks she can give orders because she's engaged. Ignore her. She's an ass."
Sometimes Matthew thought Audrey was too innocent. Maybe his mom thinks she's got Tony wrapped around her finger (his mom always thinks his brothers are the victims), but the reality is that Tony has got her wrapped around all his fingers...
If you know what I mean.
"Tony is still asleep. You don't need him, do you?"
Matthew was in the living room. He placed his bag on the ground. Audrey served him some tea and cookies as he spoke, "No, it's fine. Can I spend the night here?"
"Sure! We'd like some company anyway." Someone who would help Audrey around the house that is. She made Matt help her with the chores every time he came. "But I'm not sure about Tony driving you back to Viridian tomorrow in the early morning."
Matthew was planning on skipping anyway. "It's fine. My first period was canceled. That's why I came anyway."
Audrey believed anything and anyone. Such an innocent soul she was. "Okay—oh, there is the Sultan! Finally!"
And she calls him king too... Matthew sighed. Tony even tells her not to wear this and that, and made her stop talking to most of her guy friends — and Audrey listens and obeys. Anthony was the king; the king of jealous that is, but wasn't this overdone?
Matt shifted and lay down on the couch as Tony in his pajama shorts and tank top walked over to the single sofa and sat down. He looked completely sleepy and bloated.
"What is this brat doing here..." Matthew made a face and threw a cushion at Tony. This latter caught it.
"That's the first thing you say after you wake up? Come on, Tony. More effort."
"Audrey, please. I'm so hungry..."
Audrey blinked and turned toward Matt. "Was that an excuse?"
"I think. Feed him before he eats us."
"Very funny." Tony sighed and ran his hands through his hair. "What time is it?"
"Eleven-thirty—hah! No. Those are not yours. They are for Matt." Audrey shoved Tony's hand away when he tried to reach out for the cookies. "Your breakfast is in the kitchen."
Tony glared at her. He got up slowly and said as he walked over to the kitchen. "You love them and they tyrannize!"
Matthew watched him, amused. "What's the issue?"
"I don't let him touch anything with sugar in it. That's all."
Matthew laughed. Audrey telling Tony what to do and what to eat? Since when? "How did you do that?"
"He shouldn't get fatter than he is." Audrey shrugged and put her hair behind her ear. She blushed a little as she said, "Well! Your brother has a really nice butt and legs and all but duh, it's not worth it. I don't like him way too chubby."
Matthew blinked. Nice butt and legs? Okay, Audrey was officially starting to scare Matt a little bit. "But how did you convince him..."
"Hum?"
"Never mind." This was probably the only time Matthew was really glad he wasn't in Tony's shoes. But please, what kind of cowards let a woman put him on a diet? Matthew would never let any girl do that to him. It was stupid. This was a joke. Tony was officially a joke — Matt can't wait until he tells Chris and Dylan.
"Say, do you want to hear a little bad love story?" She did have skills. Putting a Ketchum on a diet? That's something.
"Love story?"
"Mine." Audrey really reminded him of Hannah; petite for her age, skinny legs, thigh gap, a not too big chest. She could be a size four or six (Chris has been teaching him).
"Awww! Tell me—but hey! Why is it bad?"
Matthew sighed. "Because my crush hates me."
To be continued.
