Chapter Four: Is That Your Gun or Are You Really Happy To See Me?

Chapter Four: Is That Your Gun or Are You Really Happy To See Me?

"You have got to stop pointing a gun at my face." Hannah grunted as she lay on the mat, teeth gritted together as she tried to tighten her grasp on her partners wrists.

"It's not loaded. I'm not going to actually shoot you." He commented. Hannah swung her legs up so that they were wrapped around Booths waist and put all her weight into pulling him down. He fell to the side with a thud and Hannah managed to get his arms above his head, him instead laying on a  ground and her pressed against him, faces closer than Hannah would've dared. She smirked.

"Now you can't shoot me."
"Ah, but I can cause you to be distracted." Hannah rolled her eyes and let him go and sat up so that she was just straddling his waist.

Out of context, anyone would've felt it too awkward a time to interrupt. Brennan however, was unaware to the 'ins and outs of contexts' and walked right into the gym and was clapping, a smile on her face.

"That was quite impressive, especially for someone of your size." She complimented. Hannah grinned at her as she shifted her weight.

"It helped to have had an older brother." Hannah blanched slightly and looked down at Booth. "Please tell me that is another gun..." Booth had gone bright red and took no time dislodging Hannah. She got up from the floor and moved to stand by Brennan who was watching with mild interest.

"I must say, Agent Price, you have a greater affect on Booth than anyone I have ever met." Hannah rolled her eyes.

"Not what I want to hear right now, Doc. Which leads me to ask, why are you here?"
"I'm here to get Booth, actually. We have to have sessions with Sweets." They both looked at Booth, who was still laying on the ground, only this time on his stomach and was still looking embarrassed.

"I'll leave you to that then. I'm gonna shower and forget this gym session never happened." She said the last bit a little louder, so that Booth could hear. She heard him mutter something inappropriate and headed for the shower.

"You could just ask her out, you know? Or we could talk to Sweets about this."
"We talk to Sweets about our relationship, Bones. Not mine and Hannah's."
"But Hannah is your partner and your my partner so she's technically also my partner." Booth got off the floor and wrapped an arm around Brennan. She scrunched her nose at the sweaty gesture and tried to push his arm off but to no avail.

"That's not how it works."
'But I like Hannah. Shouldn't we discuss your evident attraction to her so that we can clear the air?" There was a hint of teasing in her voice. Booth scowled.

"No attraction, Bones. She's my partner. That's. It." Brennan shrugge.

"I may not believe everything Sweets does or says but he may have some useful insight into this-"
"No!"
"Come on, Booth!

Hannah tucked her wet hair into a loose plait as she walked up to her office area when her phone notified her with a text.

Angela Montenegro
Hey Sweetie, we could really use you down at the Jeffersonian.

Hannah sighed.

How soon do you need me?

Angela Montenegro
Now

Hannah tapped out her response and did a 180, heading back to the elevator and down to her car.

Needless to say, the whole team at the Jeffersonian was in disarray when she got there.

"What's going on?" Hannah asked as she approached the team. Angela sighed in relief.

"Thank goodness you're here. We need someone who has the law on her side to tell Jack that no, he cannot break Zach out of the Institute." Hannah frowned at Hodgins who was fiddling with the rubber band on his wrist. Hannah looked at Angela and her annoyed face said it all.

"I can't be at your beck and call to come and sort out a drama queen. I walked in here and actually thought something was wrong." She gestured to the panicked room of scientists and cleaners.

"Oh, Cams all over that. Jack and Wendell did an experiment and accidentally blew up a lab." Angela's tone was nonchalant, like it was just another day at the Jeffersonian. Hannah scowled and walked over to where Hodgins and Cam were.

"It's illegal to break criminals out of prison, kapeesh?" Hodgins looked up at Hannah, his blue eyes full of annoyance but he nodded.

"What are you doing here, anyway?" Hannah pointed angrily back at Angela. Cam nodded and crossed her arms.

"Do you have anything to say for yourself?" Cam asked, directing her question to Hodgins.

"I'm sorry for blowing up a lab. Happy?" Cam narrowed her eyes and walked away. Hodgins turned to Hannah, his face softening now that Cam was gone.

"You're a woman, Hannah." Hannah raised an eyebrow as she leaned against his desk.

"Thank you, Hodgins, for pointing out the obvious."
"Okay let me try that again," He smiled. "You're a gorgeous young woman with her whole life ahead of her. Would you  if you saw my name on a dating app, go out with me?" Hannah opened her mouth to answer but struggled to find the appropriate words to use.

Hodgins sat there, waiting. Hannah blinked and pushed herself up and closed her mouth, deciding to walk away rather than answer.

"Aww, come on!" She heard him yell.

"What a weird day." Hannah muttered as her phone rang. She flipped it open and answered it, not even looking at caller ID.

"Hello?"
"Agent Price. We have a delivery for you down at the front."
"Thanks. Who's it from?"
"No name." Hannah grumbled and hung up, turning on her heel and made her way back to her car, narrowly missing being hit in the head by a beam that was being moved.

If there was one thing Hannah had to choose about hating her job, it was the constant toing and froing between work and work. Sometimes it was nice, getting the peace and quiet away from Brennan's constant inability to make human connections or Angela and Booth trying to teach her current human behaviours but on this day, Hannah felt it grating on her nerves.

Pulling into her parking space, she jumped out and frowned at Booths car. The fact that it was still there was a little odd, considering it was 3pm and he needed to get Parker. Shrugging, Hannah trudged inside and rested her hands on the front desk, FBI badge in hand.

"Afternoon, boys. I take it you have a parcel for me." One of the men looked at her and nodded, pulling out a small bag.

"Thanks, Frank."
"No problem." She shook it lightly as she walked to the elevator and waited for it to open, waiting amongst the small crowd. She shook the bag and when a corner of a box hit her hand through the bag, she raised an eyebrow and got into the elevator.

Walking out from the box and down the hall to Booths office, she started to tug at the parcel bag and attempted to open it, succeeding only slightly. She walked into the office and grabbed a pair of scissors off of Booths desk and cut open the bag. She didn't see Booth walking in as she opened the box and she didn't see him go bright red and move to sit down at his desk, leaning back in his chair and started fiddling with the baseball that was on his desk.

Hannah pulled a box out of the bag and Hannah turned it over in her hands and looked over at Booth for the first time.

"What's this?" She questioned him. He shrugged. "Oh come on, use your words, Booth."
"I have no idea. Chuck it here." Hannah threw it and he caught it, turning it over in his hands.

"So, about today...." She started to say while he inspected the lidless and keyless box. He shook his head.

"Nothing happened. There was nothing that happened. We were working out. Nice tattoo by the way." Hannah rolled her eyes and tugged at her jacket sleeve and looked at the small rose on her wrist. She scratched it as she looked at it.

"Way to change the subject."
"I'm an expert. Maybe we should get this x-rayed. Who's it from?" Hannah shrugged.

"There's no address except for here and my name. That's all there is." She passed him the bag and he picked up his phone and called someone, talking rapidly before putting it down and leaning back, putting his feet on the table.

"So, what did you think of your first case?"
"It wasn't much of one, was it?"
"No, but you get the odd one." Hannah nodded.  "Which reminds me, Sweets wants to talk to you. You have an appointment with him tomorrow morning." Hannah groaned.

"I don't need to see a shrink."
"Bones and I have to see him once a week. You need to see him. As long as we don't have issues, we won't need to see him."
"So ya'll have problems?" Booth chuckled and threw the football at Hannah.  She almost didn't catch it but managed to stop it from crashing into the bookshelf. He scowled.

"No..."
"So yes?"
"No!"
"What about you and Parkers mom?"
"Hannah!"
"Sorry..." She grinned.

*******************

Hannah walked over to the supermarket that night and grabbed herself a ready made meal. She looked at her watch and sighed at the time.

It was eleven at night. She hadn't expected to finish work so late and was still trying to erase the morning from her mind.

"Move it!" Hannah looked up from her watch as she stopped walking, eyes going towards the noise. There was a man just outside a building, yelling at three people huddled together. She frowned and moved closer. The huddled group appeared to be a woman and two children. The man was yelling at them as well, smashing something against the wall behind their heads. There was a cold feeling in her stomach and she felt herself being drawn to the situation. Hannah got a better view of the group and yelled when she saw the man strike, the woman's face snapping suddenly at the strike.

He looked up in time to see a blonde streak crash into him, sending him sprawling. The woman screamed and Hannah heard her move the kids as Hannah punched the man in the face.

"How dare you-" The man cursed and punched Hannah back and pushed her off of him, wrapping his meaty hands around her neck and applied pressure. Hannah growled and ripped her hands at his face, making contact and making him yell. Hannah gasped for air as he let go and rolled to her feet.

"Run. Get away!" She choked, motioning for the woman to go. She grabbed the children and made for the supermarket, leaving Hannah to face the man.

"You never, NEVER, touch a woman like that."
"Don't tell me what to do,  wench." Hannah cried in anger and launched herself at him again, pulling her gun out and using it to smack him across the face. Somewhere, someone yelled as there was a loud crack. Hannah crumpled and held her ribs, groaning in pain.

"Get away from her!"
"Don't tell me what to do!" The man roared and smacked at someone else.

"Phone the cops!" Hannah wheezed and aimed a kick at the foot. Her attacker went down and she rolled so that she put her leg across his throat and got him into a head lock, squeezing.

"Go to sleep damnit." The darkened street quickly lit up, going blue and red  as the sound of police cars came to the scene.
