CHAPTER SEVEN
Rita's POV
It's been three months since Cameron asked me to marry him and a month till the day that becomes a reality. We had both figured that there was no need to waste time as we were both sure this is what we wanted so we decided to do it as quickly as possible.
But right now, I'm really thinking that we should have waited a bit. Planning a wedding is no joke.
Ever since my mother found out, she had been ecstatic and had immediately began making preparations, even before we had set a date and still it didn't do much to alleviate the amount of work needed to be done and the pressure I felt inside trying to catch up with time which seemed to not be on my side these days.
There was picking the dress, fitting the dress, cake tasting, finding a venue, booking a venue, finding and booking caterers, the people who would prepare cocktails, honeymoon destinations, and all that. It was seriously overwhelming. Luckily, I had my sister and my mom to help. And also, luckily, we had no budget as we had been instructed by my father and Cameron's father to splurge and spend as much as we need, the bill was on them.
I was still having trouble picking a dress as nothing that I had seen was really my style or felt right, but I had recently connected with a wedding dress designer on Instagram who was really good and had a lot of dresses that I liked so I had booked an appointment with her for today. I decided to go with my mom and my childhood best friend, Temi, who had just returned from London where she schooled, Rachel, and Cameron's mom, Anita Collins, since she had an impeccable taste in fashion.
By 2pm, we all met up at the wedding shop and I immediately liked the place as soon as we walked in. The decoration is elegant with simple but classy artistic pieces and a nice color theme. The woman had a nice eye.
As we are ushered in, we are offered champagne, which we accept, before being sitted. I look around the room, filled with about a hundred white dresses and being here suddenly feels surreal to me. But I don't think it will ever really set in that 'this is it' until my wedding day.
"Good day, ladies." A woman in a red corporate dress walks in. Surrounded by all this white, she stands out prominently.
I immediately stand up to greet her.
"You must be Rita Juma." She says shaking my hand.
"Yes, we spoke on the phone."
"We did. Congratulations in advance."
"Thank you." I reply turning to the chair. "And this is my mom, my sister, Rachel, my friend Temi, and my soon to be mother-in-law." I introduce them.
"Good afternoon, I'm Sandra." She says.
After all the greetings are done, I'm taken into the dressing room and given a lot of dresses all based on the description of my dream dress which I had given her earlier.
I try on a few which are not my style at all and gladly my small support group sipping champagne on the couch, think so too. For some, they disagree on if it is good enough while others are a big no for me straight up.
I'm just about to give up by the time we are on to the last dress. This has to be it, so I send a quick prayer to the man above. And as the assistant helps me into the dress, even before it is fully on, I conclude that this is indeed the dress.
It is a long dress with a lace bodice at the top part and the lower part flowy white silk. The hand is in little falling straps and the train is pretty long but it fits me just right.
As I walk out of the dressing room, I hear the collective gasps from everyone and feel their unwavering stares on me, the exact reaction I want on my wedding day.
"You look so beautiful." My mom says, her eyes moistening.
"Absolutely." Rachel and Anita support.
"This has to be the dress." Temi says with a nod and we all agree with her.
So, we go to make payments for the dress immediately. I insist on renting the dress, contrary to buying it like my mother wants me to. I don't see the need because I will only wear it on one day. After much argument, she concedes and we pay. We are on our way out when I get a call from Cameron so I excuse myself from the group.
"Hello, beautiful." He says into the phone, immediately making smile.
"Hey baby."
"Are you busy right now?" He asks.
"Not really. We just got done with dress shopping and we are on our way back home."
"And how did that go? Did you find anything you liked?" He asks. A few days ago, I had ranted to him, out of frustration, how hard it was to find a dress that I actually liked and he had suggested I buy one from abroad and have it shipped but I wasn't hearing it. That was a waste of money and the time that we didn't have.
"As a matter of fact, I did." I say, unable to conceal my joy.
"That's great. Okay, since you're on your way home, how about you rest for a couple of hours, I'm sure you must be tired, and then I'll come pick you up by let's say 4:30."
"Okay, that's fine. Where are we going though?" I ask him, curious.
"It's a surprise, just be ready then." He says and I can practically see him smirking right now.
"Okay, Mr Collins. I will be ready." I say with a grin.
"Good. See you later, Future Mrs Collins." He says making me chuckle before we hang up.
I raise my head to see Temi watching me with a smile. "Any redder and you can possibly be mistaken for a tomato." She jokes, her British accent pronounced.
"I'm in love, what else can I say." I laugh before going to rejoin the rest.
As promised, by 4:30 pm, Cameron was around to pick me up. One of the things I love the most about him is how punctual he is.
"I missed you." He whispered into my hair when I walked out of the house to meet him.
I just burrowed deeper into his arms that were wrapped around me. "I missed you more, you big baby." I say with a chuckle.
He laughed huskily before pulling away slightly. "You look so beautiful right now. Good enough to eat." He says, nipping softly at my ear with his teeth, before looking at me from up to down.
"You're gonna have to wait for that, Mister." I tell him, pulling away from his arms and walking to his black Lexus car.
I hear him laugh from behind me, and then his hands appear on the door handle as I move for it. He pulls it open and waits for me to get in before closing it.
"So, where are we going?" I ask him about ten minutes into the drive, unable to stop myself. I never did like suspense.
"It's a surprise." He says, adamant on not telling me.
The drive takes about another 1 hour or so due to traffic before finally I feel the car begin to slow down as we enter an estate in Eko Atlantic. Cameron drives for about five more minutes before pulling up outside a house. He turns off the car and comes to open my door for me.
I'm quiet as we walk into the large empty compound and then the massive cream colored house. The foyer is large, with pillars at the front of it holding the house. Inside is a massive living room, with the dinning area a little elevated from the ground in a corner.
It has a long, curved white colored stairway leading upstairs and a bar beside it. We go into the kitchen which is beside the dining area and it has a lot of space. But something I notice about this whole place is that it's all empty.
I turn to Cameron who is spotting a satisfied smile and ask, "Is this-"
"Ours?" He interrupts me, the grin on his face widening. "Yes, it is."
My hand immediately goes to my mouth and my eyes widen as I turn back to admire the massive interior. In this side of town, I can't imagine how much a house this big cost. I had previously thought I would move in with him in his place.
"It's beautiful." I whisper.
Cameron engulfs me in a hug from behind. "I'm glad you like it. I want us to start a family here, make memories here. I left it bare so you can design it. You can begin whenever you want. No rush."
"Baby." I turn around to look him in the eyes. "Thank you."
