Chapter-56
The cheetah speeded towards both me and Austin while Brittany and Addy hid under a seat. Intentionally, we both got out of the vehicle, in order to get the cheetah out. We wouldn't want any harm to Organa anymore anyway.
"Any plan, or dependant on training?" He smirked, asking with his sword pointed to the door.
"Training, I suppose. At least until Addy finds the silver stuff."
The cheetah reappeared in front of us and exchanging glances one last time, we engaged in fighting.
As it approached us, I positioned my dagger to hit her straight, but it ran too fast to catch up. I didn't even get to realize how its paw scratched my wrist, causing the dagger to fall.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah! You focus on the fighting!" He nodded, before running to fight the cheetah. The cheetah surprisingly stood on its legs and used her hands to block Austin's sword attacks. Before I could get back to the fight, I heard Addy yell from behind, carrying a bowl.
"What's up? Did you find the silver stuff? Wait- is that silver fluid?"
"Yep. I used my juice-making skills with Organa as a perfect assistant. I mean look, using all the different objects of different shapes, isn't it better to just use them as one?" She exclaimed with her usual grin.
I nodded a few times, taking into account of an arousing idea. That's when my face lit up with what I came up, "Genius! Addy, you're a genius!"
"I know I am-"
"With this I can-" I paused, perceiving the shadow of an enormous creature towering me.
Slowly moving my eyes the opposite way, I gasped at seeing the form of a dinosaur. Looking down, I saw Austin came running back at us before it could crush him. On his way, Angela stomped her giant foot, causing wavy movements of the ground. With the crumbling formation of the ground, Austin tripped and fell off, bruising his elbow.
"Austin!" I yelled, about to run to him, but stopped, trying to think rationally.
To execute that plan of mine, I dipped my dagger into that bowl, and then calling out to Austin.
"Austin, make me jump up towards her!" He nodded, instantly positioning himself. He sat on one knee, and extended his one palm over the other. Filled with hope, I started running towards him.
I stretched out my leg to put it on Austin's palms, after which he pushed my leg upwards, strong enough for my whole body to be pushed forward high up towards the T-rex. At first, I had difficulty in balancing my body in the air. My heart pumped faster each second. After a while, I got a grip on myself, but just as I was about to throw my dagger to her face, she grabbed me with her giant arm.
Austin immediately threw his sword at her arm, which released me, but it only caused me to fall downwards.
"This was a perfect ending. I can't let it go haywire." I thought, and with no further adieu, I threw my dagger at wherever it would land in her body with all my strength. It hit right at it's stomach, causing it to roar out loud, further falling backwards with a great thud.
It was a triumphant moment, but I realized I was being attracted to the earth's gravity. Terror struck me and I closed my eyes, hoping for Lord's angels to rewards me with their wings, for God's sake!
As I felt my body fallen on a surface, I realized I didn't get too hurt. In fact, there was zero pain. Slowly opening my eyes, I found my eyes meeting with those similar dazzling orbs.
"Austin? Heh, thanks." I nervously smiled, getting out from his hold, still engulfed with those butterflies in stomach. Damn, I was slipping and I definitely need to get a grip on myself.
"Let's get mourning for Brittany's best friend." Addy exclaimed, hopping towards me.
I nodded in agreement, advancing towards the descended body of Angela's human form.
"Certain as the sun
The land to be torn by hatred and corruption
Sea flowing with scarlet earth sap
Rising in the east
The curtain closes for by each attack
As the hour draws near, they shall depart
Floor of drinks, they shall fall.
Tale as old as time
A second or hour to forever plague
Cause scarred, blighted, none promised infinity.
Song as old as rhyme
Handprints causing chance of utter betrayal
Dark Lord to arise and live
One doesn't break millions, thus,
Beauty kills the Beast.
After which the world ends in-"
I listened in awe, as she managed to utter those words before her body faded away in the form of ashes. But I still wondered what might the prophecy ended with.
"Jeez, that's outrageously poetic." Austin chuckled, getting up to get into the van.
"Really needed Joey here." Addy remarked.
-
"But how does Beauty kill the Beast?"
"No, before that, we have to identify the Beauty and the Beast." I pointed out.
"But wait wait. We don't have to actually drool over this." Austin paused, "Isn't it obvious? Like, since all the prophecies opened up to us are related to our future and so the like, the beauty is obviously from our group, that is either you, Joey or Adeline. And the beast is the villain, since you won't actually kill the boys from our group, or people you care about, right?"
"Yes, but then again, this can't be that easy. Look, why would the descendant of the assumed 'Beast' tell their defeat to us. To motivate us? Encouragement? That's not possible, you know? And, even if in the future, we are the winners, then why would the descendants even try to defeat us? For challenge, or what? That's not possible, either." I explained, munching the chips that I put in my mouth from the packet.
"Which means, Dark Lord is not the Beast. But dude, you sure these lines aren't spoken as before-death reminiscence words by Angela about her past missions, or maybe spoken crazy because she was exasperated by her death?" Addy suggested.
"I don't know. There are too many possibilities. And right now, the migraine is slaying me." I complained, slouching on the couch.
"Oh I've got an amazing news for you guys!" Organa exclaimed, approaching us, "It's my certainty on the fact, that you three will get at least 3 hours to chill yourselves. Cause the next descendant is coming from a faraway country, as in an Australian breed."
"That's rubbish! Only 3 hours?"
"Why, that's not enough?"
"Of course not! A week is what we need! We're horribly knackered!" Addy whined, pouting her lips.
"Just fought 2 villains, and this is your state? You got yourselves in it already, honey. Boost up your energy."
"But Granny, the attack is for all 6 of us, and we are divided into halves. Who will it attack?"
"That- I'm afraid has an outrageous answer."
"You mean?"
"The descendant is a plural form."
"So it's like a group attack?" Austin raised a brow.
"Precisely. The Dark Lord has already prepared these after he was known about the separation. He doesn't like to leave bits and pieces."
"That's not fair, mate." Austin complained, lying down on the couch.
"Please tell me you have necessary information regarding this group, starting from their name."
"Yes. This time, I'll be of a bigger help. But what I am afraid of is that although you three will have sufficient info, Joey, Travis and Clayton are totally unknown of them."
"Can't we contact them, anyhow?" Addy raised her eyebrows, actually devouring her candies.
"No, they didn't take away their phones, nor we know where they are. And even if we did, we wouldn't have any option since they don't have any communication device." Granny stated.
"So, the only option is to wait for their call."
"Well my darlings, time for you to have chill pills. I'll inform you youngsters when to start devising. Alright?"
-
The sky turned a bizarre mix of purple and yellow. I wondered, the moon would be setting soon, its crescent scythe vanishing below the forest horizon, as the car went on. Something like the auto-driver mode was on, so Granny was having a sweet nap. Addy, on the other hand was drooling saliva in sleep, her head tilted on the top of the seat.
My forehead creased with wrinkles at the absence of Austin. Where was he?
"Can't sleep?" I heard his voice, along with a tap on the shoulder that sent a shiver down my spine, and I turned around to face him.
"Jeez, you scared me."
"Oh so I scare you, mate?"
"No. Not at all." I lied, looking the other way, "By the way, what's up with your wounds? Do they still hurt?"
"Not really. Just an elbow bruise and a few cuts here and there."
I widened my eyes, dread twisted in my gut, "What do you mean a few cuts? Why didn't you tell me? Do they make you sore? And did you bandage 'em?"
"Oh chill hun," He smiled, placing his arms behind his head, and leaning backwards, "these cuts don't weaken my powerful metabolism and bod-ow." He flinched, shaking his left wrist. I immediately took his wrist onto mine, my thumb rubbing on the cut.
"Oh Lord! Can't you be a bit careful? Wait, I'll bring in the first-aid."
Rushing back with the first-aid quietly as so the others couldn't wake up, I gently pressed the cotton that was dipped in the antidote liquid, on the places he had scratches and lacerations.
I squinted my eyes, afraid he might get shots of electricity of pain when giving the medicine.
"You're behaving as if you are the one with wounds." He let out a chuckle, "If I knew, getting hurt is the best way to get your attention, then I would've ended up in the hospital a long time-"
"Just pipe down! Always speaking gobbledygook!" I scolded, my chest moving up and down just at the thought of having him to fight between life and death in the hospital- just at the thought of losing him forever- was he that important to me?
I let go of that thought just as quickly it came to me, and focused on the last part of the bandaging process.
"Like you're easier, you disappoint me."
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"You know, being more straightforward and facing your feelings might just make things less complicated and less of a drama. Drama with misunderstandings."
"I don't understand."
"When will you, Beca?" He stated in a low tone, his expression purely screaming affliction and dismay. His eyes bore into mine, but instead of that mischievous glint, there was...disappointment.
"I...I'm sorry. I'm just too good at pushing people away and blaming fate for it. I'm sorry I didn't realize your feelings for me." I began, "The thing is I didn't want to realize your feelings for me. I wanted your attention so much, that...I thought hatred was more lasting than love. I became so used to bad luck, now when good things are happening, I end up focusing on the negative part.
And now facing the truth, I'm afraid I'll...lose you. Just like Casper. And to be honest, I think you are right." I paused, "Oh lord, this is tougher than painting Mona Lisa. I mean...I don't know how to say or express these things, I do lo-I mean...I..." I paused again , unsure of how to properly weave the complexity of my feelings, halted only by the soft press of his finger and the sudden, unwanted yet sweet whisper, "I know." He replied, using his index finger to hold my chin, slowly pushing it upwards to face his eyes.
My eyes constantly switched from his eyes and lips, and unknowingly we had our faces gradually coming closer.
"It's not your fault completely. I'm sorry too. You know, situations are just hard. It's hard to show all these feelings when I never had anyone to...It's just hard to express.
This has always been the sad tale of the boy, quietly and painfully suffocating in the torment of unreciprocated love every single day -one of the cruelest forms of torture.
But all I know, from the moment I laid eyes on you... everything, every instance has been about you—you don't just matter, you are everything. And as much as tangled and fluctuating this youth life, our relation has been, my feelings for you has always been..." I parted my lips, an unsettling feeling in the pit of my stomach, "...love." I completed.
Warmth blossomed in my chest, sparks igniting as he leaned in closer, just as he brushed his lips with mine. His lips were warm and soft; I further leaned into the kiss, feeling the soft tickle of his breath beneath my nose, his fingers carding through my hair as we breathed each other in.
We were tentative and careful, keeping our distance, but I could taste our shared breath, feel the thud of our combined heartbeat, the butterflies dancing in my stomach. My lips parted, allowing his tongue to slid inside.
My eyes were half closed, and so were his; He nudged his nose against mine and I brought my fingers up to his hair, refusing to open my eyes.
But when I did, my eyes amusingly flickered over him while he smiled, charming and gentle with a hint of mischief. And I knew that was it- I was simply stunned by the beauty, never to leave it.
