Chapter-48
"Is that girl the mother of Casper as well?"
"No, she's not. No one knows who is. Casper arrived on the doorstep of the girl in his infant stage with a note from her ex-husband. She knew it was not her son but something born out of the Dark Lord's magic, but the power of attraction has a high rank as well, you know? The baby looked so innocent, she couldn't just abandon it on some street. So she raised him as well. Unlike Lucas, Casper grew out to be a boy with a golden heart. But like Lucas, Dark Lord was able to connect to him by the connection of their blood.
It would pester him but wouldn't let that add any difference to his character. Several years later, he left as well. No one knew where, when, and how. And surprisingly, the girl was not worried, because she had faith in whom she taught."
"But that was thousand years ago. How could Casper last so...?"
"No, honey. Casper was born in the nineteenth century."
"Woah, Woah wait. How could the girl not die?" Clay's eyelids raised.
"She had jobs and powers, you know? Even stuck where she trapped him, he wouldn't stop creating descendants of his own, spreading the power of darkness. And to prevent that, the spiritual world had decided to create wildfires to save humanity, including their mentor. They 'hired' the girl as one." she chuckled, gawking at her stick as if taking a trip down memory lane.
"Then, years passed like this, fighting and enjoying, mysteries and murders. But all I know is that up till now wildfire chosen had been a bad decision. Every generation fought Dark Lord's descendants and killed several. Over the years, his powers decreased, and so he is unable to create any more scoundrels. But is sending his old ones to kill you six."
"I don't understand, "Travis chimed in, "According to the timeline and the cycle, wildfires can't be a threat to him, he's the threat to wildfires. What's the whole point?"
"Oh, my curious kitties. How much milk can you drink?" She laughed wearily, but we only gave inquisitive glances at whatever she was meaning to say, "Leave that. Now to answer your rational question- I didn't tell you the beginning of the idea of wildfires, now did I? So, Beca and Joey, you both had fought those green monsters, tell me if I'm wrong."
"Yeah, but how'd that make any difference?"
"They are the monsters created by that girl's potion. During the time of her marriage, when she used to practice her scientific experiments, she created something peculiar. It was the medieval period and she never showed her experiments to anyone. She utilized them in her daily lifestyle. Except for one day, a poor teenager sneaked into her house and out of curiosity, ate the potion he found. Well, that was a petty disaster. His body switched to one of those monsters and when she returned home, she couldn't risk telling her husband because it was with one of his DNA materials she used as ingredients.
He would behave savagely sometimes and so she had to hide and feed him. One day, coming from work, she noticed that boy eating the flesh of a woman he murdered. What else could she do now?
So, she contacted the spiritual law force. They said that just like they were formed from the universe's precipitous innovations, she had created a similar contrivance who can create spirits by killing people-"
"So she created those viridescent savages? How reckless can someone be?" Joey complained.
"Well, she was a young inexperienced woman, filled with curiosity and uncertainty about the outer world."
"But these spirits created wildfires, which then again is on the good side."
"What is the connection? I just don't get it." I murmured, a cluster of skepticism burning my head.
"Honey. When these spirits were first created, they were on the good side because of their actual kind- the spiritual world was on the good side of morals. That's why dark magic couldn't get hold of them. But the spirits had to live with a purpose. And when Dark Lord's descendants' murders and darkness spread immensely, they decided to make this rule, inspired by the lifestyle of that girl. Every spirit should make themselves stuck to one person who they believe will have the ability and strength to defeat the descendants and the power of darkness. "
"It's a cruel cycle of life. "
"No. Not really. As I said, every generation had only six wildfires. And forgot to mention, since there was this connection of blood, touch, and all between the spirits and the Dura Viridis- I mean the green monsters, with the good side of the spirits, the spiritual law force could get control of the savages who were formed by the touch of one. Since they were few in particular- and that was because they were kept in a cage with given merit entertainment inside, only six spirits were maximum.
Last but not least. You may ask why the spirits have to die as a cause for the Dark Lord's release. It's because just like the good string between the spirits and its creator, there is this unholy, wicked thread inside the good ones, which plays a crucial role as an ingredient."
"Ingredient for the concoction needed to thaw the poles that jailed Dark Lord till now. Right?" Addy suggested just after which Granny nodded, "Wow, it is just like you're telling us a fairytale!"
"So what do we need to do? We now know about the past. But the future is gonna be our present. What is happening now? And what is our agenda as a wildfire?"
"To find Lucas and Casper. Now that they are on the same side, something big is going to happen and it will not take a long time. Nor will it be a pleasing fairytale, not this time. And don't question me, right now. Go to your training room. I will give a final training to you both."
"Excuse me? Off-topic but you do know our graduation is two weeks later?" Travis chimed in a question that definitely put everyone's glare on him, "Okay, okay. I get it. Lives in danger are more important than academics." He raised his arms in a defensive fit.
"Wait, graduation is two weeks after?" Joey asked worriedly, laying my skeptical glance on her. I mean, since when did she begin to stress over about studies?
"Yeah, I do believe that is exactly what I said."
"Holy mother of f-" She widened her eyes, lifting her heads on either side f her head. My heart skipped a beat, "It means, we literally have two weeks, freaking 14 days!"
"Joey, tell us what you know." Granny stood up instantly, and the atmosphere tensed up.
"I- I don't-"
"JOEY THERE IS NO TIME."
"But how did you-"
"I'm the mentor here, so you gotta answer my questions."
Joey grasped her breath and calmed down, later stating, "I'm sorry. Like I'm really sorry. I would never hide this if I knew it would be this much serious."
"What. Is. It?" Granny repeated her demand, as I prepared myself for more puzzling revelations.
"Ok-okay. Look, just like every spirit with powers, my dad has the power of IQ to solve any kind of riddle."
"You have that box I once asked, right?" I frowned, but she only lowered her face.
"Yes. But I swear I didn't know those prophecies were actually the future!"
"What do you mean?"
"After today, I realized that those riddlish prophecies actually made sense."
"Leave any of that in the past. Just tell me what prophecy seems to relate to this time" Granny solemnly asked.
"Ere the ceremony of enlightenment,
Will be hours of 80, now commenced.
After the reunion of half-bloods,
Will be the dawn of dusk.
This clearly means, that starting from now, there will be 80 hours- which indicates to two weeks before the graduation day. And before I did not understand by half-bloods, but now that I know Casper and Lucas are half brothers or somewhat, it's clear what half-bloods means here."
"And the last line's a metaphorical statement." I winded up.
"We have two weeks to find those two brothers. Otherwise, it will be the end of humanity."
"Then what do we do with them?"
"I will explain later, sweet pie. Right now, I'm gonna take two days for the training. One day to figure out where those two idiots are situated. Then we have to be on the road, pronto." Granny ended the conversation by then and we all nodded in agreement.
-
"6 freaking hours have been wasted and we still haven't got a single clue about the location!" Joey groaned, pressing her hands to her cheeks but we ignored any backhanded moments.
"Are you sure, none of those two left any clues?" Gran asked, her eyes shining with hope.
I gave it another thought and replayed all my recent memories that included any of those two.
"Like in the party, did any of those two say something riddle-ish? At least, solving riddles would help increase my IQ, and save some valuable time." Joey rolled her eyes and pursed her lips.
Any riddles? That brought me to the time when I first saw Lucas at the party. He did say a prophecy!
"I remember! Oh, thanks, Joey."
"Cool. But for what?"
"Lucas had told me something that seemed beyond my understanding. But now that I know Joey can solve this, I remember!"
"What did he say?"
"I don't exactly comprehend these words, but I think he referred this to some specific place. He told me to meet him at-
The love of steel and lace
Cupid's shining shot pointing heaven.
Cones of light highlight
On gold sheen of silver
When night falls over mysteries
Of hidden identities and enigma."
"It is a romantic theme, duh. Which refers to the countries of romance." Joey instantly put in.
"I need time to figure out the other clues to point out the location."
"Don't take too much time. You also need to pack up your stuff." Gran reminded but Joey playfully rolled her eyes and rushed to her room.
-
"So this is like the main fight?" Clay asked, putting his luggage bag at the back of our caravan.
"Yes." I stated firmly, "This is the final battle, and we will not lose it."
After two days of hard training, I definitely had the credence to perform the given tasks as wildfire. And yeah, the further realization that a true wildfire doesn't only need its title there to be one, but the numinous soul of doing good is what is needed, gained my faith.
"Why aren't we taking the plane again?" Addy whined, carrying her bags over her shoulders, approaching us with Gran beside her.
"It's cause, the gorgeous, kind descendants won't want us to go and reach Lucas and Casper." She sassed, "So it is obvious they will come and fight us. And I do not want the poor passengers in the plane to die or get any harm upon."
"Oh, well that makes sense." Addy stopped in her tracks, lifting her eyelids, "We are gonna have to fight La Llorona again? And like, how many are there?"
"I don't know. But no, that old hag ain't alive. She's dead already." Gran chuckled, waving her hand in a dismissive turn.
"So, ready to hop into Paris?" I gently offered after the others were done with the packaging and fitting the necessary supplies into the caravan.
