Chapter-18
It began with a fine morning in our high school where I determined to find Austin, but only to hand him his weapon that he left in grandma's place. As the class was coming to an end, the bell rang, and everyone hurriedly left, except for Austin who remained standing, engaged in a conversation with a few of his remaining friends. The teacher left the classroom, allowing us to stay if we wanted.
Nervously, I chewed my lips and somewhat forwarded towards them. I knew I was never really liked by them so a good response from them would not be expected.
I refused to make eye contact, gulped and simply requested, "Um-hey Austin. Uh...can you come over here a bit? I-uh have to give you something."
Unexpectedly, his friends burst into laughter, which was my biggest concern. However, considering all the insignificant escapades we had experienced, I hoped he would at least respond.
"Why would I come with a girl like you? You are far away from my league, outcast."
I felt a strong sense of pricking annoyance and anger when he turned out to be no different from anyone else. I realize now that it was foolish of me to have any expectations from someone like Austin, even if it was just for a brief moment.
"Oh okay fine. Then I'll gladly return your gladius sword and don't you dare step into our group. Get it?" My forehead creased as I exited the class, anger still seething inwardly.
"Wait! Re-Rebecca , okay no stop!" But obviously I didn't. I simply went towards the cafeteria in the circular table where our newfound group sat for a while.
We gossiped and chattered certain topics but my attention was mostly towards Austin's demeanour. Why did it even matter so much?
"Maybe you find forelsket in him." Casper uttured in thin air.
"Fore-what?"
"Never mind. The thing is you are paying too much attention on that playboy, which you really shouldn't, said as an advice from your friend."
His words made me recall of what wrong I actually was doing and I tried to defend myself, "Haha, what? No way I'm doing that! You can't just know what- okay whatever you can read my mind pfft."
Upon eating my burger and engaging in a mental conversation with Casper for some time, I observed Austin heading towards the restroom, appearing as if his stomach was in extreme distress. It seemed as though his legs were about to give out at any moment, which amused me momentarily. However, I soon regretted my amusement when I myself experienced a sudden and intense stomachache.
I excused myself from the table and rushed to the washroom when similarly my feet stumbled upon a whatsit roll. I almost tripped but swung my hands clockwise to balance my weight, soon getting the hang of it.
Angrily, I looked down to see the obstacle only to perceive it was Austin on his knees, clutching onto his stomach.
"Wha-what's wrong? " I inquired, feeling my ache deteriorate, both of us in the same state. Except he was the one on the floor.
"Take me to the washroom please. I-I can't really bear it."
And seemed like I had to hate my generousity. Being in agony myself, I decided to help that bastard but then again he was in the floor.
After leaving him outside the restroom, I proceeded to the female restroom. Upon exiting, I tapped on the door of the male washroom a few times, but it seemed that he was still inside using the toilet. I shrugged and quickly turned around, but immediately sensed a movement around my ankle. I nonchalantly shook my leg, assuming it was a mosquito or some other bug. However, as the jab on my calf intensified, I crouched down to investigate. What I witnessed left me shocked and caused my face to lose all color.
"Austin? I-Is that yo-you?" I stared widened with my jaw hung open as he waved his hands in front. At first I couldn't believe my eyes and thought it to be one of Casper's hallucination pranks but then he spoke with a voice reminiscent of Tinker Bell. "Yes it is me! Me! But I don't know what happened, my stoma-" I barely controlled my laughter, bursting into an inferno of giggles, making his face red of rage and more hilarious to now barely stop my enjoyment.
"Now what's popping , eh? Tiny little Austin."
He slapped my leg again, harder than before and I controlled my laughter.
"Stop it dude! For god's sake. I've been minimised by...by I don't know! Help me Rebecca! Please." He hopped with his little feet with his eyes heavenward , forehead puckered to an almost crying state.
Taking advantage of the situation, I held him with my hands and shook for a while before his shout silenced me.
"But who would do this?"
"I don't know but my spirit told me it was the mischievious act of some dark pixies! But why me?"
Confused myself, I called out to Casper, "hey, you know 'bout these pixies?"
After a few seconds, he answered, "Uhh yeah. And not really the easy ones to play with. "
"But why me?"Austin cried out again.
"Firstly, you have to stop the fake cry and second, you are not the only one. Oh shoot it! Reccy, go to the other three members of your team, ASAP! They might be affected with it fro-from the cafeteria food contaminated by those puny pixies. Just go!"
"You couldn't warn me before?"
"I didn't know come on!"
My head was literally entangled with all the newfound knowledge and asking me to rush into something more new made me go more scatterbrained.
However, putting Austin in my thigh pocket I hurried to see my other somewhat friends but guess I was too late.
"Oh holy guacamole, you have to find them instantly before they come into someone else's sight!"
"But why didn't the food affect me?"
"Cau-Cause...your uh.., it doesn't matter right now. Just freaking find those other tiny inhabitants of this world bruh."
To drag the matter more out of my stupid nervousness, I forced a chuckle, "That was sarcasm right? Like the last part?"
Before Casper could add whispers, I spotted a miniature appealing insect, which now looked more of a human.
"Found one." I ran to her direction but she went towards the staircase that leaded to the principal's office plus a few teacher rooms.
Once I ascended to the second floor, I couldn't locate her anywhere. Assuming she might be downstairs and feeling frustrated that my search had been futile, I suddenly heard a glitching noise emanating from the storage room. Without delay, I cautiously surveyed my surroundings before heading towards the source. However, unexpectedly, something jabbed my head, causing me to exclaim in pain.
"Now I thought that would shake the stupidness from your head."
"What?"
"Look, whoever is there you have to peek or overhear. If you open the door, they will disappear. And I can't get in, they'll see me- the-" Abruptly, his voice vanished into thin air and I was on my own. Taking a deep breath, I was determined to follow his instructions and put my ear against the door. I heard the same tinker bell voice but doubled .
"Hihihi, Chumbell. They have been hihihi- tricked and now be easily defeated by the Devourer. Hihihihi."
And that was the only statement I could hear properly.
As I stood down fatigued with the entire tiny malady, I heard someone calling my name out loud but as if far-away. From where the sound was coming, I glanced up towards the stairs just when I perceived a tiny Joey sliding from the banister. Known of what might happen, my brows drew together with broadened eyes.
She didn't stop.
Hitting me straight on the nose, she clung to my face with her limbs spread out. As a result, I stumbled and accidentally dropped little Austin onto the ground from my pocket
We might have laughed at that but it did really hurt.
We did a quick reunion session and set off in the search of the two boys. Joey mentioned both of them got into the washroom and I simply didn't dare to go there as I had assumed they already got out.
Additionally, there came a moment when I decided to pause and take a break, and it seemed as if there was an object of unknown nature crumpled beneath my feet, tugging at them. When I glanced downward, I was disheartened to discover a distressed and crumpled individual, namely Travis.
"Sorry nerd brother. "
With me regreting my unknown action, Joey seemed to laugh fully with her tiny voice, earning glares from both of us.
However in my astonishing discovery, I witnessed a similar fuzzy, beige haired jovial girl running to hug me.
"Adeline? What- how-"
She released herself from the tight embrace and leaped with delight, expressing her excitement through enthusiastic chatter. Witnessing my closest companion filled me with a flicker of joy.
"Oh my god! I missed you! I missed you a lot! You know what? I'm shifting to Glasgow for like forever! Oh and before all our chatty convos bruh, lemme tell you what I found!" She took something up from her pocket and what I saw was horrible than seeing a sun at a nightfall.
I was left more awe-struck with seeing the tiny creature in her hand and was left speechless as my jaw hung open.
"I know right? Like this is something unimaginable! This tiny human was found outside the boys washroom - under a cloth. Weird but okay. Like oh my god again!" Her expression was more exhilaration than horror. What can I say- that's Addy.
But what would happen next was the thing to be horrified about. Like what could I possibly answer to her? I couldn't lie to my best friend about my another best friend- which was right then minimised.
With the excuse of observation, I took Clayton from her hand and whispered hopeful words to him for the time being.
"So do we show to this to the police...or to any scientist?" She continued blabbering for a while when I only focused on how to get away from her. Truly I was delighted with her arrival but there were more life-saving works to complete.
Fortunately, her phone started ringing, and while she glanced at me out of the corner of her eye while stepping aside to answer the call, I swiftly sprinted away from that place towards the vast, unoccupied field..
I rested , pressuring my hands on my knees and panted.
I took out each of my friends and sat under the shade of an oak tree for a fine discussion.
"THIS IS INSANE-LIKE WHA-"
"Oh god! My luck doesn't seem to end- I mean start! Like why me?"
"Shut up morons. Mourning over your tiny selves won't make you gigantic again." Joey rolled her eyes and I totally agreed.
"Okay look, calm down at first. I know this is like worst time when the bathroom door doesn't fit but you really need to go. Uh! Oh god. "
I exhaled a deep breath, "First we got to know that these...dark pixies minimised us but only to make it easy for our destruction. Second, we need to go to Grandma ASAP to prevent the further troubles the pixies might gift us. Lastly, we have to escape, means I have to , from my best friend, no offense to Clay_" I quickly mentioned, "Cause she can be one heck of a _"
"We could really see that ." Travis scoffed and
I began to speak but then decided against it and remained silent.
I could hear Adeline's voice from far away but regrettably, she had to be disregarded until this issue is resolved. Although I had deep affection for her, my attention was currently directed towards something tangible, ironically, and I couldn't express my happiness upon our reunion.
I took all of them adjusted in both of my pockets and hurried my steps to my cycle.
Suffocated, Clayton demanded for air and I kept him in my cycle basket. On the way, Casper guided me of the road to Organa's house.
"You won't believe how that girl BFF of yours literally killed me. It started with me sitting on the toilet. Just when I was getting up, I just shrunk and dude was it easy? It was the edge of the toilet where I was freaking hanging out almost falling to my poop man! Unfortunately my shoe fell, damn, " he faked a cry before continuing, "It was my favourite, so however as weird as it may sound but with unknown dope gymnastics, I ....kinda got it out but when I saw the gross poop , I threw it so hard it fell on Adeline...uh which I realized later. And not to mention she literally tasted it for it was Nutella for her, oh god! Geez nuts! Like after I got out, I clearly perceived her before she could and without her spotting me, I quickly covered myself with a cloak-like handkerchief on the floor and slowly moved out. Then the nightmare emerged.
She probably saw me swarm and bent down, literally talking to herself. I was frozen still but that douchebaggette just poked me on the butt! That too with her toe! Though unknown but seriously? She did it continuously bruh ! And later for the final round, she picked me up, squeezing me through in the belly. Horrendous situation to be short!
I couldn't bear her poking torture anymore and I hopped from her hand , uh...kinda making it more complicated and ways for her to see me. She eventually overrun me. And I just kept pushing my legs through with crap closed eyes even in her captive until I realised I got caught. And that's my happy ending."
"Hats off to you, Clay."
-
"Puny dark pixies. One of the slyly mischievous attendants of the Dark Lor- I mean uh...someone you wouldn't want to mention."
"Who?"
"Nevermind that. But you will never want Him to get out from what he is trapped in. Yet there are spirits who desire his escape, among which lies these pixies. As I mentioned before, you guys have to be vanquished by a certain weapon known as the Sepphire Crystal which is kept with every spirit in this universe. But only the evil uses it against you all. Pixies mostly thought that minimizing you would be easy for them to kill you _"
"When? I haven't even done my graduation!" Travis exclaimed his discontent, keeping calm for so long.
"Calm down. No need to overreact. And please learn to know that every problem has a solution. So_" Organa got interrupted by Joey saying , "Of course."
"Listen children. And along with you, your spirits got minimised plus visible which would be easier for being attacked by them. And to snatch the six spirits' Sepphire Crystals."
"How do we defeat them?" I finally asked.
"I...uh don't know."
Her answer left us all perturbed but we asked again, "What do you mean Organa?"
"I...only know that they live in Epoxy trees which is ...quite impossible to find. And that_"
"They are obsessed with horses, they perform a ritual of wrestling at night of every full moon and they have only one Sepphire Crystal among them which stays in the main Epoxy tree of the queen. And to defeat them we definitely have to destroy their crystal to trap them into the Neverland Realm. " I was surprised myself as I blabbered on, my mouth was wide open because I had no idea where those things came from.
"Wha-a-a-where did you get to know about that?"
"I-I am not aware. I am quite shocked myself as if someone inside me said those words like-"
"Oh god. It's happening."
I noticed Grandma breathing heavily with a sense of unease, which made me feel tense too.
"What is happening?"
She quickly came up to me and held my shoulders firmly and suddenly began to plead, "You-you will never betray your moral compass, your friends, your br- Casper and your mudita, your generosity. Please don't sweet pea. Always be yourself."
Without any clue of what she was exactly referring to, I simply nodded and she exited the room hurriedly.
