Apocalypse

A/N: Sorry for not updating much! Lack of inspo is really getting to me. Anyways, this isn't the one shot that was upsetting me, btw. That will be out soon. There are a few Easter eggs in here, try to find them >:]

Eliza was running.

And my god, she was running faster than ever.

She was out of ammo, she was out of rocks, she was out of water, and quite frankly, she was out of time. Things were not looking good.

The 3 zombies behind her treaded quickly at heels. She had to get to the base before the zombies made a feast of her lifeless body, turning her into one of them.

This is Elizabeth Schuyler's life on a daily basis. Running away from zombies is commonplace now, although she's usually fighting them. Her friend Aaron seems to do most of the running away. Ever since the apocalypse broke out 10 years ago, the government disbanded and clans had formed.

Only three main clans survived, which were the Independence Clan, the Firetta Clan, and Redhawke Clan. Eliza had belonged to the Redhawke Clan. That was the clan her father happens to be in charge of. Although that's not what Eliza happened to care about in this particular moment, she just cared about surviving.

She ran faster, adrenaline pumping through her veins. Warm and sticky sweat dripped down her pale, yet sleek face. Her heart sped up, beating swiftly like a horse racing towards the finish line. The scanned the harsh and rugged terrain, looking for the Redhawke flag that signaled she was in her clan's territory. Either her dark eyes were deceiving her, or there was no flag.

There was no time to slow down or wonder what happened to the flag, or the territory, for the zombies were inches away from her. In an attempt to save her neck, she duked the zombies left and took a sharp right into a pit that caved underneath a log.

Quickly rolling the log underneath her, she eyed the confused zombies. They surveyed the area, hunting Eliza like a dog. She felt like prey as the zombies staggered around, questioning where she went.

Eventually, the 3 zombies sprinted away, leaving Eliza alone. She let out a breath she didn't know she was holding in. In the middle of catching her breath, Eliza heard a rustling sound from the corner of the pit. She whipped her head around to see a figure glaring towards her.

They were shrouded in a ominous darkness, and they had propped themselves up against their gun that was being used presumably to shoot zombies. She assumed the figure she was sharing the pit with was indeed a person, after all they didn't smell like burning, rotting flesh and they weren't hunched like a zombie.

"You need help, sweetheart?" A male's voice asked. Eliza rolled her eyes, taking note of exits she could use to escape if he were to try something.

"Who are you?" She asked him bluntly, skipping pleasantries. The man put his hands up in surrender.

"I think I should be asking, who are you?" He stepped into the light. He wasn't much older than Eliza, and he honestly (in her humble opinion) looked attractive in a scarred, war criminal type way. Eliza didn't answer.

"What are you doing here?" She continued, not acknowledging him or his question.

"Hunting zombies, princess." He responded.

"No shit, douchebag." Eliza cringed at the "princess" nickname. "Why are you in this spot specifically?"

"Well, I was hunting zombies, as I said before. But you kinda ruined that for me." He whined.

"Do you have any idea that you're on Redhawke terrain, and that you should be tried and tortured for trespassing?" She paced around the already cramped pit, trying to make her point clear. "You noclanner shouldn't be anywhere near here." She spat. The dude took offense.

"Noclanner? Do I look like that filth? Listen, princess, how do you know I'm not in the Redhawke Clan?" He sized her up.

"Because I haven't seen you, dumbass." She shot back. He laughed.

"I'm from the Independence Clan, and you're the one trespassing near Independence soil. I'm Alexander Hamilton, an aide to Chief G. Washington." Alexander told her, trying to intimidate her with his status.

"Oh wow, an aide. What are you gonna do, write to the chief? 'Oh help! Some random chick is pissing me off in the forest.'" Eliza mimicked him. Alexander stared at her with contempt.

"You've got spunk, princess. What's your name?" He asked, trying to blow off steam.

"Why should I tell you?"

"I told you mine, it's only fair that I know yours."

"That was never agreed upon."

"What is it? Kristen? Jenny? Lisa? Anne? Christine? Pepper? Natasha? Sophie?" Eliza shook her head at ever name he threw at her. The list grew, as did Eliza's boredom.

"Ava? Reese? Avery? Emma? Elizabeth? Eliza?" Her head perked up. He took note of her reaction.

"Eliza? That's pretty.." He said, unknowingly saying the last part out loud.

"Thanks.." Eliza muttered.

They let the silence weigh in between them, a heavy awkwardness settling in the air.

"I'm still going to have to bring you in, though." Alexander told her quietly. Eliza was about to respond when an explosion went off from outside the base.

Alexander dove to cover Eliza, instincts kicking in. Immediately after getting body slammed to the ground by a 175lbs+ man, Eliza rolled out from underneath him, shooting him a nasty glare.

"Did you really have to-"

"Shut up for one damn minute!" Alex cut her off, listening closely. Eliza heard shouting from outside, and another explosion went off. Soon, multiple explosions were going on and shouting was the only thing drowning the bombs out.

"It's the Firetta Clan." Alexander whispered in the darkness. Eliza shot around at the name Firetta.

"Are you certain?" Her breath hitched. Alexander sensed her discomfort.

"Yeah, you good?" He asked. Eliza nodded.

"Perfectly fine." She said, shaking off her past, haunting memories.

"Good, cause we're going to need to leave this place. There's a tripwire hidden somewhere around those big dirt piles. It unlocks the door to this base. If they trip over the wire, we're screwed." He shook his head, collecting all of his guns that laid around the dirt base. He threw her one of his smaller guns. "Take this."

"It sucks." Eliza caught it, examining the weapon. It was a O-66 pistol, something that had been out of commission for 2 years. Alexander shrugged.

"At least you can use it." He told her. Eliza shoved it back into his hands, grabbing a nice V-33 rifle that he had just finished loading. He snatched it back from her.

"Nope. I just paid this off. You're not touching this. If you're so butthurt about your gun, take this one." He chucked a T19-H96 at her head. "It has a decent range and nice reload time."

Eliza ran her finger along T19-H96's grey holster. It was rusted and dirty, which was probably from a lot of use. It wasn't anything like her P88-04 that she had at her base, but it would have to do.

The ground shook again, this time with more force than it had before. Eliza and Alex exchanged a quick look and both agreed silently that they needed to get out of there. Fast.

Alexander flew past Eliza, grabbing her wrist as he ran past. Eliza was about to make a sound of protest until Alexander yanked her back into him, causing her to stumble back. Alexander didn't expect this, and he fell back, hitting the floor with a thud. Eliza soon toppled over him, falling face-first onto him.

"What the hell was that for?" Eliza yelled, still on top of him. Before Alex could defend himself, the base's ceiling curved in, creating a large rock pile on the exact spot that Eliza was standing at. Eliza's eyes widened as she realized that she was a mere inch away from death.

Alex quickly stood up, brushing the dirt off of him and offered his hand to Eliza, who gladly took it. She stared at him, not quite knowing what to say.

"Y-you just saved my life.." She stuttered. Alexander shrugged.

"No time for that now, we need to get out." He told her, and she snapped out of the trance she was put in. She nodded at him.

"But, how?" She asked, looking around. Alex pointed to where the dirt caved in.

"That's how."

"That wasn't there before."

"Obviously."

"So what would we do in a situation where that didn't happen?" Eliza crossed her arms. Alexander pretended to look lost in thought.

"We would look for a way out of here, duh." Eliza mentally facepalmed.

"You're an idiot, you know that?"

"So I've been told. Now come on, let's go." Alexander grabbed onto the hole in the ceiling, but Eliza pulled Alex down.

"There's a freaking battle going on out there. We can't just run out into middle of it like our heads are stuck in our asses. We need to make a plan so we don't drag our OWN clans into this." She informed him. It didn't seem to stick with him.

"Eh. If I see a zombie, I shoot." He said nonchalantly. Eliza stared at him.

"You sound like a noclanner."

"Thank god I'm not."

"Y'know if zombies didn't exist I would have already killed you." Eliza crossed her arms, getting sick of him.

"Great."

"Alexander, please. We don't want to create more war with the other clans." She pleaded. Alexander sighed.

"Fine."

"Ok, so we go out into the fire. Look down and run. Shoot only if you have to, and do not kill any clan members. We run out into the forest, and agree to never see each other again." She briefed him.

"The last part sounds perfect." Alexander commented.

"For once, I agree." Eliza said. "Now let's do what must be done and be done with it."

"It was a pleasure meeting you, Eliza."

"As with you, Hamilton."

Eliza held out her hand, and Alexander reluctantly shook it. They took out their guns and loaded them. The noises outside grew louder.

"Remember the plan." Eliza told him before she climbed out of the barren base. Alexander looked up at her from above, hesitating. Was he making a mistake by letting her go? Sure, she was annoying, but she was beautiful.

He snapped out of his trance and followed her suit into the battle. Bullets swam by his head, and groaning came from all over the battlefield.

Alexander spotted Eliza running away from the battle, and ran after her. Someone from the Firetta Clan glanced at Alexander, realizing that he wasn't part of the clan.

"Ani, we have a noclanner getting into the mess." She paged one of the commanding officers. The man on the other end sighed.

"Just shoot him. It doesn't matter, he'll be weak when he turns into a zombie." He replied, shooting a few other zombies while doing so.

The Clan member loaded her gun, getting a good look at Alexander. She aimed right towards the center of his chest. She pulled the trigger back slowly, wanting to actually shoot him. She released, watching the ammo soar across the field. The bullet whizzed past a zombie, barely missing it's head before narrowly missing Alexander's chest.

Alexander was so caught off guard, he stopped in the middle of the field. There was a tear in his clothes, marking the exact location that the bullet whizzed by. Eliza looked back, noticing Alexander was frozen behind her. She grabbed his wrist and took off running.

"Damn it." The sniper cursed, seeing now that there were two of them. She quickly reloaded her gun, trying to eye the pair again.

Meanwhile, from across the battlefield, Alexander and Eliza had managed to dodge bullets, zombies, and death.

Eliza blindly kept running, dragging Alexander behind her. Alexander almost got shot, which is not good considering he could've just turned into a zombie. There was a rock pile up above that she decided would be a good hiding spot for now, so that they could form a better plan rather than just running blindly.

As they approached closer to the pile, she noticed that it seemed to get taller and taller. It must have been 15 feet tall, with a few other rock mounds surrounding it. She shakily shot two snipers who stood at top of the tall quarry, barely hitting the first victim and having to shoot the second one twice in order to properly kill him.

"Get ready to jump!" She called to Alexander, who was at her heels. Eliza let go of Alexander's wrist, grabbed onto the one of the rocks--which gave her a boost--and pushed herself up, sporting a graceful leap into the air. While mid-air, she turned and shot two zombies who were gaining up on the pair. She landed hard on the dirt, rolling back and crouching down in a Spider-Man-esque way.

Alexander, not nearly as graceful or coordinated as Eliza, stepped on a rock and turned back, shooting a few other zombies who were also nearing Eliza and Alexander. He effortlessly shot each zombie in the head, watching them fall to the ground with a sick sense of accomplishment. Eliza may be better with athleticism, but he was much better with the combat part.

Eliza had already gotten back on her feet and pushed the two snipers off the quarry when Alexander had seemingly finished shooting the zombies that had been attacking them minutes earlier. She took off her gloves, wiping off the blood on her hands using her black, ashen shorts and reached out her hand.

"C'mon, we can hide out here until the skirmish is over." She said. Alexander had just latched onto it when he felt a tiny woosh of air next to him. A tiny, gold bullet was now stuck in the rocks, just inches from where his head was. He turned around, looking frantically for the person who shot at him.

"There!" He heard Eliza shout, pointing towards the trees. There in the thick bushes was a Firetta sniper, reloading her sniper rifle. Eliza aimed towards her and fired, just missing her by a few centimeters. She fired again, missing again.

Alexander aimed at the sniper, pulling the trigger back of his V-33 rifle. There was a tiny click, signaling that he was out of ammo. He slung the rifle on his back in frustration.

"Throw me the gun." He anxiously called to Eliza, who was shakily reloading the gun. Eliza glanced up at the sniper, who was aiming towards Alexander and getting ready to fire.

"The ammo isn't going in!" Eliza yelled down.

A zombie appeared at Alexander's right side, grabbing onto his chest and trying to knock his head into the rock quarry. Alexander screamed, and tried to grab onto the zombie's rotting head in an attempt to pry it off.

"Alexander!" Eliza caught sight of the brawl happening down below. She turned her attention back to the gun, trying to shove the ammo in. "Get. in. there!"

Alexander latched onto the zombie's shoulders, and swung it in a way so he was blocking the Firetta sniper. The sniper instinctively fired at the zombie, shooting it in it's torso. The zombie collapsed, and Alexander threw the corpse off of him. He noticed a rock near the zombie, and picked it up. It was heavy, and it was prime knocking-out material.

He looked at the sniper and aimed back at her. With the rock in his left hand, he threw it at her. The rock flew through the air, dodging the bullets that surrounded the area, and landed square on the sniper's head. Alexander briefly smiled, before throwing another rock at a zombie who was running towards him, which hit it in the chest.

"Nice job.." Eliza threw the gun to the slide. She noticed that the bullets had stopped ringing, and that the zombies seemed to be migrating away from the pair, with the Fieretta clan following them. It was just Alexander, Eliza, the knocked-out sniper, and the hundreds of bodies that surrounded the area.

"Thanks." Alexander looked up at Eliza. "You did awesome, er- good too." She chuckled and muttered a thanks.

"I guess this is goodbye?" She said. Alexander nodded, though a little sadly.

"I guess so. You can keep the gun."

"It'll remind me of you." She admired it.

"Cya around, Eliza."

"Until we meet again, Hamilton." She hesitated. "Maybe you're not so bad after all.." Eliza smirked, looking at Alex. Alexander blinked, and suddenly she disappeared into the black, mythical shadows above him.
