The Room Where it Happens
Aaron Burr glared at Alex. Who, for some reason, was playing checkers with Thomas Jefferson. "What the hell is he doing?" Aaron grumbled. Aaron watched as Alex lost yet another of his players, and crossed his arms, he did not like this new Alex. The one that had appeared when Eliza and Angelica came back from the lake. Angelica was back at school, and Alex was very different. He didn't care that Thomas was mean to his friends, he played checkers with him.
"Alright kids, lunch!" Mr.Miranda called. Since Mr.Washington had adopted Alex, he had been switched with the kindergartner teacher, Mr.Miranda, who we called Lin.
"Yay!" Laf and Herc tugged Burr to their usual Lunch table, meeting Eliza and Peggy (AND PEGGY) there.
"Where's Alex?" Eliza said when she came to the table.
"Bathroom." Burr covered for his friend.
"Oh." Peggy pulled out a cheese sandwich, and munched on it. Eliza had a strawberry yogurt, that she ate with a mini spoon.
"That's so cute." Hercules cooed, he loved anything miniature. He said it was his 'aesthetic' the other kids didn't know what that meant.
Aaron stared over at Alex and Thomas. Thomas pulled out a lunchbox and a thermos from the lunchbox. Thomas opened the thermos. Aaron leaned in a little closer to try and make out what was in the thermos. Of course. Mac'n'cheese.
"Want some?" Aaron could make out Thomas saying. Alex's back was to him, so he couldn't see but- no!
"No!" Aaron murmured.
"What is it mon am-" Laf stopped speaking when he saw what was happening. The world seemed to slow down. Alex leaned forwards, and everyone watched as he took a bite of the mac'n'cheese.
"No..." Eliza whimpered. Alex heard her and turned.
"It's not what it looks like!" Alex exclaimed, as soon as he swallowed the food.
"You're not making deals with Jefferson then?" Aaron's face was blank.
"I- well- you see..." Alex couldn't explain it. "This table is where all the cool things happen."
"I wanna be at the table where it happens!" Aaron said, his friends looked at him in disgust.
"That's awful." Eliza spat.
"I'm sorry Liza. I just had to speak to Thomas." Alex frowned.
"Why?" Herc said.
"Because his mom is the super-intendant, with the flick of his hand we could all get kicked out of school. So I talked to him." Alex still looked ashamed.
"What did it take for you to sell us down the river? Alexander Hamilton!" Aaron shouted."Did Mr.Washington know?" Aaron took a step closer to his supposed friend. "Or did you know it doesn't matter if we get kicked out?"
"We'll stay in school." Alex defended himself.
Aaron glared at Alex for the millionth time that day. "You got more than you gave."
"And I wanted what I got!" Alex was angry now too. His friends didn't understand. "I was trying to help you guys!"
"We know." Herc, Laf and Peggy all said together.
"I'm sorry Liza." Alex said to her.
Eliza smiled weakly, and kissed Alex's cheek. "I forgive you. You did what was best for us. Though you could've told us that earlier. Would've saved us some arguing."
