PROMPT: #32-"Are you still awake...?"

(A/N I'm totally borrowing Fillyreports' layout for this because I just really love it)

You carefully sipped your coffee as you walked back to your dorm. It was 10:36 PM on a Tuesday, so not too rare to see other students walking around you. You like to remain cautious, so as you walked you examined your surroundings. Two students walking hand in hand, one practically shoving you to the side to get by, and one sitting under a light, furiously writing in a notebook.

You looked around one more time before pushing open the door to a building, enjoying the blast of warm air. You got into your room, kicked off your shoes, and prepared yourself for a night of study. Fortunately, you didn't have too much to do, so before you knew it you were curled up in bed, nice and warm.

The only problem was you woke up around two AM and couldn't get back to sleep.

For whatever reason, whether it was stress or something else, you woke up from a terrible nightmare and couldn't get your exhausted body back to sleep. You closed your eyes and counted to 851. You played relaxing music. You checked your Instagram for an hour. Yet you couldn't sleep.

You decided to make the best out your insomnia. Grabbing your phone and shoes, and a steak knife because you never know, you went on an adventure. Campus was really quiet at four in the morning. At first it was relaxing, then you remembered stories of what happened to students...

"Okay, that's it," you decided. You turned around and sped walked back towards you dorm when you heard a noise.

Being the curious idiot that you are, you stopped and slowly turned towards the source of the noise. You jumped when you saw a figure sitting on a bench under a lone yellow light. He was leaning over a notebook, writing something. You recognized him as the kid that was sitting on that same bench hours ago, and cautiously made your way over.

"Are...are you still awake...?" you quietly ask. He jumped at the sound of your voice and looked up at you. Obviously, it didn't take long for him to regain his senses, since he replied, "Well, what does it look like?" You flinched and took a step back, so he rubbed the back of his neck and said, "Sorry..."

You still kept your distance but shook your head. "It's fine. I just didn't expect to see anyone outside right now." After a moment of hesitation, you moved closer to the boy and asked, "What are you doing out here?"

"I could ask the same to you," he said, before looking back down at his notebook. "Well, yes, but I know I have a rational reason. As far as I know, you haven't moved from that spot for a few hours. How are you still awake?"

He looked back up, realizing you actually had a point. "I...I guess so. Ha, trust me, I've stayed up longer than this before. It's just because I really need to finish this essay, and I only have time to work on it now." After a moment, he slid over to the side of the bench and gestured to it. "You can sit down if you want. I'm not going to bite you."

You hesitantly took a seat next to him, carefully watching him. He stuck out his hand to you and said, "By the way, Alexander Hamilton. My name is Alexander Hamilton." You smiled and firmly shook his hand. "Y/N L/N. Nice to meet you, Alexander."

You two talked for hours about everything. He ranted how he is working on this group project and his partners, two kids named James Madison and John Jay, barely get any work done. You talked about your family back home, and he had a wistful look on his face every time you talked about your family.

"What about your family?" you innocently asked. He bit his lip and responded, "It's complicated. My father left my mom and I, and a couple of years later, my mom, she, um," he looked down and softly continued, "she died..."

You mentally cursed yourself and took his hand. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked..." you quietly said, gently holding his hand but looking away. "No, it's alright," he wiped his face and looked back at you. "That's why I moved to the states. For a better life. The classic American dream, you know?"

You looked back at him and his smile melted your heart. Yes, you have only met him a few hours ago, but you were already in love with everything about him. His dark black hair, his expressions, his passion for whatever he was talking about, and most of all, his deep intelligent eyes.

Soon, you two were talking, just old best friends, when you noticed the sun coming up. "Oh dang," you sat up, "I gotta go."

He grabbed his phone and handed it to you. "Put your phone number again. I'd love to talk again." You slightly blushed at his straight forwardness, but quickly typed your number into his contacts list. Within seconds he sent a message to your phone, and you stood up together.

"It was nice to meeting you, Alex. And fun talking too." You started to walk away when he said, "Y/N?"

You only had time to turn around when he pulled you closer and pressed his lips against yours. Your eyes were wide, but after a moment you relaxed and pulled away. His face was reddish and he bit his lip. "Sorry..."

You shook your head and softly giggled. "No, it's fine, really! I'll see ya around, I guess..."

He smiled at you and laughed. "See you around!"

For the first time ever, your insomnia actually was a good thing.
