Secret Love (Philip X Reader)

WARNING: Fluff on steroids.

PAIRING: Philip X Thomas Jefferson's daughter! Reader

REQUEST: JADEWONDERS Philip x Thomas Jefferson daughter! reader

PROMPT: #36-"I shouldn't be in love with you!"

(A/N I, as the ultimate fairy child, am incapable of writing anything with angst. I am a sucker for a happy ending. So enjoy my attempt at trying to make this not so fluffy and how I failed miserably)

"Father, how would you feel about me courting?" Y/N Jefferson slowly asked her father. He looked up from his dinner in surprise. "I...I guess I would be okay with that, depending on who the boy is. Why do you ask?"

"Well..." Around a month ago, Y/N started dating Philip. Philip Hamilton. Her father's enemy's son. The two had been friends when they were children. Now that they were both 17, their love grew beyond that shared by friends but into a romantic love. The couple, of course, didn't care what their fathers thought and managed to keep their relationship a secret. Yet, Y/N felt a certain amount of, not guilt, but pain that she was keeping this from her father.

"Suppose, this is all hypothetical," she lied, "that I was already seeing a boy. How would you react?" She was careful to keep her face blank, fearing that she might give too much away.

"I wouldn't doubt that you have boys after you. After all, you do have," he paused to move hair out of his face, "my looks. However, is there something you're trying to say?" He looked at Y/N suspiciously, causing her blood to run cold and her face to pale. So much for not giving it away, she thought.

"Um, I...I am courting somebody," she said guiltily. Thomas had a look in his eyes, one of, not anger, but of disappointment. Y/N quickly tried to cover up and said, "And he is amazing and sweet and kind, and he really loves me! He really does..." she trailed off. Y/N was really regretting ever bringing this up, but her father hasn't blown up about it so that's good.

Thomas paused to take a deep breath before saying, "I gotta say, I'm disappointed you felt like you couldn't come to me. But if he is as great as you say he is, I'm happy for you. What's his name?"

Oh boy.

"His...his name is, um...." her voice lowered into almost a whisper. "His name is Philip. Philip Hamilton..."

Although her volume was low, it was enough for Thomas. He looked like someone just punched him in the face, a mixture of shock and anger. "Hamilton? Y/N, you know how much I hate his father! If he is in anyway like his father, he is in no way good for you!"

"Father-"

"No Y/N. I have to go to that meeting now, but we will talk about this when I get home." He left with an angry huff, grabbed his coat, and stormed out of the house.

Ok, she really messed up. Big time. Luckily, they were only staying in this house in New York for a few days, so there were no servants home. Y/N decided that if she must sulk, at least she can have the house to herself. She sank down into a chair in front of the fire, not feeling like doing anything.

Y/N was throwing around the consequences for telling her father about her secret relationship when suddenly there was a knock at the door. She slightly jumped, pulled from her thoughts, but ran over to the entrance and pulled open the door.

"Y/N! You're home," said Philip, smiling the adorable smile of his. "Philip..." she said bittersweetly. Half of her was happy to see her best friend and boyfriend here, but the other half felt that something was wrong.

"Are you doing anything right now? I noticed your dad in town, so if you want we could hang out," he said hopefully. Her father. That's what wrong. If he finds out she's are talking to Philip now, he may never trust her again! Y/N hated to disappoint her father, and this was holding her back from being happy to see Philip.

"I don't know Philip...I don't if we should be together," she said slowly, feeling pangs of sadness. "Ok, another night then?" he asks, his face still bright. He just doesn't get it, does he?

"I mean, I don't if we should be together. Ever," Y/N said, this time her tone filled with something that was almost...anger. Not towards Philip, but towards their parents from preventing them to be able to be together. Yet Y/N's father was right. Philip was a lot like his father.

Philip's bright, joyful face turned to a look that was both shocked and hurt. "Y/N, what...what is this about?" he asked softly.

"I told my father about us. I don't like keeping this a secret, so I told him. Our father's hate each other too much, and it's just...it's just too much!" She absolutely frustrated, angry at herself, at her father, and that she couldn't get her point across.

"Y/N..."

"No. Philip, I'm sorry. This just isn't right!" She felt like her father, angrily cutting him off like that.

"Y/N, please. I...I love you Y/N! Why should we let our parents chose for us! Why-"

"I, just-I shouldn't be in love with you!" With that she angrily slammed the door, not before seeing Philip's hurt face. Tears pricked her eyes as guilt washed over her. Oh god, she thought, what have I done?

She ran upstairs and flopped on her bed. Y/N let the sons overtake her, and once she had no energy to continue crying, she stared at the ceiling. Why did she do that? Why did she have to go and mess everything up?

Y/N didn't know that Philip never left. Instead, he sank down and sat on the steps outside. It's all good, assured himself. She will come back out and this will all be over.

Soon it was dark out, and Y/N hadn't come out yet. He was debating whether to go home or not when he saw Thomas walking up the path. "Well, if it isn't Hamilton's kid. Here to see Y/N? I'm happy to see my daughter didn't let you inside," Thomas said, glaring at Philip but with certain amount of satisfaction. He walked up the steps to house, expecting Philip to leave.

Philip was about to leave when a certain amount or courage, fueled by his love for Y/N and by wanting to stand up for his family's name. "Wait, sir," he called out, reminding himself to stay respectful.

"Go home, Hamilton," Jefferson said, about to shut the door.

"Sir-" Philip ran up and stopped Thomas from closing the door, "I was going to ask if I may have your permission to court your daughter."

Thomas scoffed, and said, "What makes you think I'd let you? I swear, you're just like your father." Philip took a step back, trying to decide whether to continue in his argument.

"Y-you can't judge me because of who my father is," he took a deep breath to prevent himself from stuttering. "I love Y/N, and I'd never do anything to hurt her. Well, intentionally," he admitted. "I'm not perfect, but I promise that I'll always do my best to take care of her."

Thomas glared at him for a second, then sighed. "Fine. You can date my daughter. But if you hurt her even once-" he slid his finger across his neck. Philip slowly nodded, then smiled the adorable smile of his. "Okay. Thank you very much sir!"

He started hopping down the steps when Thomas forced himself to be kind and asked, "Wait up, lover boy, don't you want to see the 'lucky' girl?"

Philip cautiously turned around and painfully said, "I-if she wants to see m-me." The truth is that he really wanted to talk to Y/N, but he wasn't sure if she would want to talk to him or not.

Thomas called Y/N down and mumbled something to himself, something not positive. But Philip didn't care, he didn't notice Thomas waking off to his bedroom, and he didn't notice if Jefferson said anything or not. He was so nervous that even though he finally gained the approval of Y/N's father, she would still not want to see him.

Y/N slowly walked down the stairs and gasped in surprise when she saw Philip. She didn't expect him to still be there. "Ph-philip?" she softly asked.

He looked up at her, weakly smiling. "Y/N, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for sitting around, you probably wanted your space. And don't worry if you don't...if you don't want to continue being friends, I understand."

"No, no Philip! I'm sorry I ruined everything," Y/N said, rushing down the stairs to him. "You didn't ruin anything. I talked to your dad, and he said we can continue dating. If you want to, of course," he said quickly, worrying that she would say no.

"R-really? Of course Philip! But I'm still sorry I-" he pulled her into a tight hug. "Stop apologizing. It's fine," he whispered gently.

"I love you Philip," she whispered.

"I love you too, Y/N."
