Little Envelopes (Lafayette X Reader)
WARNING: I doubt I will ever have an actual warning so...this is kinda long? You've been warned.
PAIRING: Lafayette X Reader
REQUEST: sincerelyhamiltrash "Could you do a Lafayette x Reader with this one? (#333) I think it'll be cute! Thanks!"
PROMPT: #333-"Everything has been different since I fell in love with you."
Y/N sluggishly climbed out of bed and walked to the kitchen. She rubbed her eyes and glanced at the clock.
6:13 am.
She carefully poured herself a cup of coffee and sipped at it. She shuffled to the door and flipped through the mail on the ground. Ignoring the bills and junk mail, one pink envelope caught her eye. Her name was scrawled out in cursive letters on the front, but there was no return address.
Y/N curiously ripped it open and sat down to read.
Dear Y/N,
Well, two words in and this was already interesting.
One thing I love about you: You have such a way with words. Never condescending, but your speech proves you as the most intelligent person I have ever met.
Nothing else, no name, no signature. Y/N felt her face burn red and praised the lord that she was alone. Who could this be from? She went over a list of people in her head. She knew like, four people that she saw regularly, and two were her parents.
Y/N was a person that enjoyed staying inside. Alone. She had a really close friend, BF/N, but they rarely saw each other. The only other "friend" she saw frequently was Lafayette from work. They would occasionally talk when they stopped to get coffee, but interaction was limited to that.
Y/N folded up the later and carefully placed it in her sock drawer. Whoever sent it, it meant someone really liked her. She couldn't figure out if she found the whole thing rather romantic or somewhat creepy. She couldn't do anything about that now.
She got dressed and went through her day as normal. Lafayette was missing from work, so with nobody to talk to, she hurried home and spent her night watching movies and eating ramen noodles.
The next day, a zombie-like Y/N crawled out of bed and shuffled over to the table. After taking a minute to let herself wake up, she walked over to the door to check for mail. Today, there was no other mail but a bright yellow envelope. She felt her heart start to beat faster, and hurried to open the envelope and read what was inside.
Dear Y/N,
One thing I love about you: Your passion when you talk about something you like. You get super excited about it, and I find that absolutely adorable.
She stopped reading and just stared at the wall for a minute, trying to process what she just read. Someone just called her...adorable? Y/N grinned the biggest smile, and looked to see if the person signed there name. She felt a pang of disappointment, but almost relief, that there was no name at the bottom.
She put the little yellow card and envelope in her sock drawer with the pink one, and got ready for the day. Whoever sent these letters, they really, really liked her! She felt a feeling of happiness, like that warm feeling you get in your stomach when you drink tea. Y/N felt bubbly, which didn't happen often. As strange as she found these notes, she also felt a small amount of hope that the sender would leave another one tomorrow.
That day, she was pouring herself a cup of coffee when she sensed someone was standing behind her.
Y/N smiled and said, "Hi Laf! How are you today?" He smiled, but nervously drummed her fingers on the counter he was leaning on. "I'm good. And you?" "I'm fine. Just a little tired lately..." she looked at him and thought if she should bring up the letters. Oh, what the heck, it won't hurt to share it, she thought.
"Actually, the most peculiar thing happened yesterday. I received this pink envelope from a 'secret admirer' stating something they love about me," Y/N watched Laf shift with a hint of discomfort, "And then, this morning, I get another envelope, with the same person saying something they love about me. At least, I hope it's the same person."
"That is...interesting, mon ami," he said, drumming his fingers on the counter nervously. Y/N forced herself not to notice. She didn't want to make him more uncomfortable. "Yes, yes it is. I can't say I don't like the cards though. Whoever they are from, the sender is very sweet," she said slowly.
She walked back to her desk and shook the thought from her head that it could have been Lafayette who sent those letters. Of course not.
That evening, she laid in bed staring at the ceiling and wondering. Who could these little notes be from? Would there be another one in the morning?
The next morning, Y/N got up at the same time as always and excitedly walked to the door. Sure enough, in the pile of junk mail, there was a green envelope with her name written on top. She picked up the pile of mail, dumped it on the table, and hastily ripped open the envelope.
Dear Y/N,
One thing I love about you: Your eyes. Your beautiful, shining eyes. They are the-
She paused to just stare at the wall and stifle a squeal.
brightest, prettiest eyes I've ever seen, full of intelligence and a bit of mystery. Like two E/C stars, your eyes shine with beauty.
Like the day before, she put the green envelope and card in her sock drawer for safe keeping and carried on with her day.
This went one for two weeks, Y/N receiving daily notes of something someone loved about her. Finally, her curiosity getting the best of her, she wrote a note herself.
Dear...
She put down her pen. What should she put?
Dear Sender,
It sounded stupid, but it was the first thing that came to mind.
Thank you for your kind letters. I would love to meet you, and see your face. Is there a certain time we can meet?
Love,
Y/N sighed as she wrote this. Was it too much? Then she remembered that the person compared her eyes to stars, so maybe this conclusion isn't too much.
Love, Y/N.
That night she left it outside her door, and the next morning he's found a red envelope.
Dear Y/N,
One thing I love about you: Your willingness to meet me. Please meet me at Tiramisu, the coffee shop, at 6:00 if you would like to.
Y/N almost stopped reading by instinct when she saw something scribbled on the bottom.
Love, your (soon not to be) secret admirer.
She felt that same bubbly feeling as before, and carefully placed the letter in it's drawer. By now, her collection was quite colorful, a joyful sight indeed.
She rushed home from work at 5:30. She quickly got ready, then glanced at the clock.
5:46.
Thank goodness she still had time. It took about ten minutes to walk to Tiramisu, so she sat down for a few minutes and let herself wallow in her nervousness. What if this was dangerous? Suppose she didn't know who her admirer is. Is this a trap?
Y/N decided that this would be an adventure. Stuffing stationary, and envelope, and a pen in her purse, she set out on her adventure.
Finally, she arrived at the small cafe. It was right then she realized that she had no way of knowing who her secret admirer is. They would know her, but nobody seemed to be calling her over. Y/N looked over all of the tables, and found one that was different. Taped to the napkin dispenser was a small blue envelope. She sat down at the table and inspected the envelope. Hopefully, no other Y/N's were coming to the cafe today to meet their secret admirer.
Dear Y/N,
Wouldn't it be better to tell you what I love about you in person? Just look up.
Y/N was so absorbed in the note that she jumped when she looked up and saw a person. "Laf! Have you been the one sending these?" she asked the nervous Lafayette.
"Yes, mon ami. I needed a way to tell you, but I was too nervous to say it to you in person," he said, nervously wringing his hands. Y/N looked up at him and thought of how her life had been completely different since he started sending those colorful notes. She had something to look forward to each day, knowing someone loved her. Truly, she herself had fallen in love with the sender of the notes.
Y/N scribbled something down on the card she had in her purse and handed it to him. He took it, with a surprised look in his eyes, and opened it.
Dear Laf,
One thing I love about you: How everything has been different since I fell in love with you.
(A/N: Gosh, this was total crap but there, I finally wrote a oneshot. YAY)
