It's Quiet Uptown
This one is going to be a kind of feel good and a kind of sad one. This was really easy to write! Hope you enjoy! I do not own Hamilton or its lyrics.
There are moments that the words don't reach. There is suffering too terrible to name.
Philip was a beautiful soul who was loving and loved. Until his very last breath, he only wanted to protect his father's legacy and make his father proud.
When he agreed to duel George Eaker, he never wanted to fight, he only wanted to prove that his father could be a good man. He didn't realize that he was putting himself in a corner, where the only way out was to shoot or aim at the sky.
And he wanted to make his father proud, so he did as Alexander said, and aimed his gun at the sky.
His bullet went up as he fell down.
He felt the pain of a bullet entering his body, and he knew this was the end.
He lay on the hospital bed in the most heart as he held on and waited for his mother and father.
He father burst into the tent and rushed to his side. "Pa. I did everything you said to do. I counted to ten, I aimed at the sky, but I made you proud, didn't I?"
He was worried for a moment. Alexander's tears seeped into the cracks between their clapped hands as he breathed a, "Yes. You did Philip. I'm proud to call you my son."
Both men smiled as Eliza's figure flashed to Philip's side like lightning. "I'm sorry mom."
"For what? You've made us very proud." Eliza didn't understand, because she wasn't there.
"I forgot what you taught me. I forgot and now, well, I'm laying here now."
"No! Philip, my son, you didn't forget! And none of this is anyone's fault. Do you understand?" He nodded weakly.
They counted together, but Philip never finished. His body went limp and Eliza screamed as Alexander held her.
They moved to the quiet streets uptown where they could grieve in private. Alexander talked to her, but Eliza didn't want to listen at first.
Eventually, Eliza realized that she needed to forgive Alexander because he was going through her pain too. And so, that day that they stood in their garden together, Eliza forgave her husband and gave him another chance.
She did it because it's what Philip would've wanted.
And when the Federalists asked for Hamilton's opinion on who should become president, she knew that terrible was going to arise, so the night before Alex was to publicly announce his vote, she talked to Philip.
(Btw, I'm making this part because I feel like it's what Eliza would've done)
"Philip, tomorrow your father is going to tell the world who he wants to be president, meaning, someone's going to be upset. And I know your father, and he will endorse Mr. Jefferson. But what of Mr. Burr? I all I'm meaning to say is, guide your father from wherever you are. That would be enough. I love you Philip."
And indeed, Alexander endorsed Thomas Jefferson in the Election of 1800. And you know what Aaron Burr did.
I don't even know what inspired me to write this, but I hope you liked it! Leave a comment as to what you thought!
