Dear Theodosia, how to say to you? Sometime last night, your mother breathed your name. Like a flame that flickers out too soon, she had died. She's gone.

As he painstakingly wrote this, Burr's tears blurred his vision has he remembered his beautiful wife. Theodosia was an important part of his life, but now that she'd died, he turned next to his incredible daughter, Theodosia.

She dedicated every day to you. She changed my life, she made my life worth while. And when you smile, I know a part of her lives on. I know I can go on.

This much was true, Burr needed Theodosia, and now, his daughter. He knew, if he didn't act fast, reality would take both of them, not just his wife, but his daughter too.

You have come of age with our young nation. We bleed and fight for you..... Sometimes, it seems that's all we do.

It was true. Every day that he had to spend preventing Thomas and Alexander from killing each other was another day that he could've helped his wife.

Theodosia sniffed as she tucked her father's letter away in her trunk. She needed to write him back before sailing to see him again.

My dear father, I'm very sorry to hear about mother's fate. I will be joining you again very soon as I am sailing back to New York for a few weeks. I hope you don't mind my company too much. I have met a man and I wish to present him to you for your blessing. He is a good, wealthy man and I am very happy with him. I do hope you are well for I am ecstatic at the thought of seeing you again, father. I will not be able to write you back until I see you because I will be on a ship on my way to see you. Anyways, I cannot wait to see you. Until we meet again father.

But Burr would never see Theodosia again.

He received a letter saying that on February 9, 1799 (I made that date up), his daughter, Theodosia Burr, had died in a shipwreck.

"Dear Theodosia, what to say to yo-" his voice broke as he whispered. He sat back in a chair with his head in his hands as the floor beneath him became splattered with tears as sobs racked Burr's body.

Everyone he loved.

Gone.
