"Gentlemen, we will be meeting here tomorrow precisely at this time. Right?" There was a long pause before the doors to the main hall busted open and around a hundred men made their separate ways into the stormy weather. Hats practically flying off their heads, they stumbled to the place each called home.

It had truly been a miserable day. Standing at the entrance to the building was George Washington, with his head hanging down. All he wished for some respect and interest in what he was saying. But the audience he received was stubborn.

Just as he was about to turn and go inside, he felt a hand touch his shoulder. He glanced behind him and sighed at the person. "You should go back inside. I will only be a couple more minutes."

Stepping next to him, letting the rain pour on top of her, the woman whispered, "No, you should go inside. It's too miserable out here and you need to rest at home." She went to take his hand but he rejected it. Taking a desperate breath she said, "Please."

He didn't respond to her. Instead he looked out in the street, his eyes watching every person that passed by. The woman persisted, tugging his sleeve. "George, you need to come inside. You're going to be all soaked."

She was being gentle, but that could all change in a few seconds. With a defeated sigh, he rubbed his eyes before saying, "I guess it's time to try and get some rest. Who knows what tomorrow will bring."

Without another word to her, he walked back through the open doors into the building to collect his belongings. He'd barely gotten through the door when another man passed him on the way out. Both said respectful goodbyes and went their separate ways.

The man nodded his head at the open door, skipping through. He turned and saw who was holding the door open. Much to his pleasure, it was a woman.

"You're going to get wet if you stand out here any longer. Do you have a place to stay the night?" Although he came across as eager in his words, his firm position kept him calm.

Turning her head to face him, she said, "I'm not that foolish to know what you're saying, sir." She let her eyes wander up and down his body before meeting his eyes. The man visibly shivered, stepping forward.

"Well, a young woman such as yourself doesn't need to be wandering alone at night in this weather." He placed a hand on her arm, pushing her back under the overhang. The two of them shifted by the doorway.

Raising her head, the woman murmured, "We have barely met and you're already touching me like you know me." Her cheeks flushed pink  and she pulled her arm away. "I can handle myself, thank you very much."

Just as he went to say something, there was the sound of someone clearing their throat. Both of them looked up and instantly separated.

Washington was watching them from the doorway with hidden amusement and frustration.

"Sir." The man straightened up at attention, holding his head up high. Clouded over with worry, his face was unlike the flirtatious one he had a few seconds ago.

Looking between both of them, George sighed, weighing his options. He finally replied, "I see you've met my sister, Alexander."

Breathless, the man let out a gasp, quickly covering it with his hand. He looked over at the woman and then back at his commander. In complete embarrassment, he stuttered to find an answer.

However, Washington wasn't finished. He looked over at his sister who was shaking her head in amusement. "I suppose it's time you two had a proper-" The word lingered in the air harshly. "Introduction."

Besides the sound of pounding rain, there was not a word exchanged. Alexander twisted his hands together, unable to speak. He finally turned on his heel and cautiously met eyes with her. She gave him a weak smile in return.

Alexander took her hand gently, kissing it ever so slightly. "I-I'm Alexander. Pleasure t-to meet you, miss." He ran a hand nervously through his hair. It had been brought up a few times that the commander had a sister, but he hadn't planned to meet her in this way.

Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, she replied, "I'm Jessica. Quite the pleasure to meet you." She winked knowingly, not caring if her brother noticed.

Picking up his bags, Washington strolled up to his sister. "You've probably already figured out that she's staying with me, Alexander." He paused, getting distracted by some passerby.

Jessica took the chance to speak. "But the offer was generous." When Alexander still looked stunned, she reached out and tapped his cheek softly. He blinked a few times and cleared his throat loudly.

"Miss?"

She looked at her brother before murmuring to him, "Goodnight sir." As her brother linked his arm with hers protectively, Jessica met eyes with Alexander, hoping to ease the tension.

"Goodnight. T-to both of you." The delegate stuttered, tripping over his words. He hit his hand on his forehead, muttering. George turned and nodded to him in thanks.

Jessica gave him one last look before they headed down the steps. Once they were a distance away, she leaned over to her brother and whispered, "Do you think I will have the chance to talk to him again?"

Vaguely confused, her brother looked at her of the corner of his eye, signaling a carriage to pull up to the curb. "I suppose you will. If you have any interest in Alexander, then of course."

Their private carriage pulled up just in time, allowing Jessica to drift off and think about all the possibilities. As the door to the carriage shut, she pressed her face up against it and watched Alexander pace back and forth on the staircase.

Touching the window gently, letting her fingers trail down, she kept her eyes on him. He had made her feel a way she had never felt before that night and she wasn't about to throw that away.

Jessica leaned her head back and shut her eyes, only listening to the pounding rain. She couldn't force herself not to fall just a bit for the handsome delegate.

Their paths didn't cross for a weeks. Since her brother was aware of her sudden interest in Alexander, he kept her well busy and away from the convention. However, he loved his sister dearly and finally caved in, allowing her to come along.

When Jessica walked into the convention building, she felt enlightened and anxious all at once. She pushed past a few delegates, who let their eyes wander down her figure. The second they saw Washington, they blushed in embarrassment and bowed their heads.

"Well, how did I just know you'd be back again today?" Leaning against the wall, Alexander admired her as she neared him. He felt more at ease with her and the situation that happened only a week or so again.

There was a flutter of whispers from the other delegates. Each of them watched as Alexander flirted with her. They tried to look away, but the jealously and frustration combined made them look anyways.

Jessica tilted her head. "It's been a while, but believe me, I have not forgotten you." She paused before murmuring, "How could I forgot you?"

Alexander's eyes lit up. He had never heard someone say that, or say it that way for starters. It had touched him, deeply, almost too much. Placing a hand on her shoulder, he smiled and whispered, "And how could I forget you, miss?"

That wouldn't be the last time or most touching moment they would have. The two got to know one another through other meetings and events, loving every moment they spent together. More and more it was becoming obvious something was growing between them.

Another spring day came, with the similar weather as before. Rain slashed at the windows and the wind howled loudly. It was unpleasant, but very expected.

After her brother had left for one of the meetings again, Jessica realized that he had managed to forget some of his papers. Shaking her head, she whispered, "Oh, George..."

Tucking her hair underneath an elaborate hat, she trudged out into the storm. The puddles splashed around at her feet as she walked through them. As she walked more, the rain began to pick up with every step.

Carriages swerved past her as she tried to duck in between the drops. It was always a myth that you could find your way through the droplets safely. Her brother had joked about it when they were children, but they weren't children anymore.

She reached the steps to the building just as a gust of wind blew the papers out of her grasp within seconds. Jessica gasped, trying to chase after them, only to find herself being tugged along by the wind and rain. The closer she got to her brother's papers, the farther they ran.

"Jessica!"

Someone was calling her name, but she didn't have any strength to fight the storm and turn to see who it was. It felt like she was being whisked away by the storm, slowly but surely.

Right when she tripped, almost falling, a pair of arms wrapped around her waist. Jessica let out a long sigh of relief, as the person pulled her closer.

She faced the person and barely had time to see who it was before she was unglued in a hug.

But she didn't need to see a face to know who had saved her.

"What are you doing out here? Are you out of your mind?" Wrapping his arms tighter around her petite figure, Alexander buried his head in her neck, clinging onto her.

The rain streaked across their faces, both of them completely soaked. There was no sign of the storm stopping, so they firmly stood in the middle of the street.

Jessica could feel her eyes welling up with tears. Why am I crying? That was the first thought she had and she tried to convince herself that it was just the rain. "I-I-"

Alexander shushed her. He hesitated before kissing the top of her head. A shiver went down their spines. To ease the tension, he wiped as much of the wetness off her face as possible.

Even though they were soaked down to their skin, they didn't care one bit. For all they cared, the rain could keep on pouring and pouring. Neither one of them wanted to go inside anymore, they wanted to stay in the rain, together, just a little longer.

A/N: Thank you PhonixFlightStudios for the request! I really liked writing this and creating their relationship, as well as Washington reacting in the beginning.
