Daydreams

Requested by: -theodosiaburr

"Look up there!"

Philip raised his hand up to grasp the distant sky above his head. He was mesmerized with the colors and excitement in a world that he couldn't even reach. Eyes glinting with pleasure, he rolled back and forth on the grass to see more of the sky.

Caught up in his thoughts, he didn't notice the girl beside him grinning. Her body was sheltered from the gleaming sun rays by the willow tree she had positioned under. Philip was peeking out between the branches above.

She closed the book she had been occupied with. "Why do you take so much interest in what's up above?" She sounded like she was playing with him, as she usually did.

Philip huffed, sitting upright. "Something about it is just so beautiful. No one really looks up there and wonders what could be out there."

The girl smirked at that remark. As an educated young lady, she would like to respond how there was nothing beyond the blue canopy and dots of white. But she didn't want to crush her friend's ambitions.

"I suppose no one really does. Maybe you'll discover something about what's up there when you're older." A breeze flipped her hair from side to side as she spoke. Philip tilted his head, thinking of a response.

"You know that's not a possibility, Theo. My father wouldn't ever allow me to get involved in anything that doesn't include politics." He groaned at the thought of him sitting in a study, surrounded by thick walls and books for days on end. Of all the things, that would be the death of him.

Theodosia shrugged. "Well, then you have to use that mouth of yours to get yourself as far away from that profession as possible."

Philip rolled over on his stomach in her direction. Once he was right beside her, head positioned by her hip, he replied, "And what are you suggesting by that?"

She brushed a strand of her hair behind her ear, avoiding his gaze as she did so. "I'm saying you should use your knowledge and confidence to find a way out of a mess you don't wish to be in. After all, you've done it before."

Philip rolled up so he was leaning on his elbows and facing her. A single eyebrow raised on his face as he whispered, "Ah, then tell me, do you think I have the capability to pave my own path with the type of father I have?" His hands crept up the front of her skirt and to her waist. Theodosia giggled at the touch.

And she certainly had no time to answer. He wrapped her into his arms, before rolling them both around. Theodosia kept laughing as he played with her hair and flipped them around, like they had when they were children.

Laughter continued to fill the air around them as the spun in circles. Leaves from the tree above fell into Theodosia's curls, making her look her even more beautiful. After they had done this for a few minutes, the two collapsed on the ground underneath the willow tree.

"Good heavens," she murmured. Her body twisted around so she was facing Philip. He stared up at the sky, fully aware of her gaze upon him. He bit back a smile as she began rubbing circles into his palm.

"You needn't worry about the future yet. We should just take everything one step at a time, right?" Theodosia tightened her grip on his hand, trying to catch his attention.

Philip flipped onto his side, placing a kiss on her nose. "You're absolutely right." She giggled as she gave her another quick kiss on the neck.

Another breeze entered the area, chasing even more leaves to come spiraling down on the couple. Theodosia groaned as more leaves tangled themselves into her curls. Her mouth opened to protest, but Philip spoke up.

"You look like a goddess of some sort with the nature intwined in your hair."

Theodosia clutched her chest, right where her heart was beating uncontrollably. "There's a reason I love you." She leaned forward, before gently placing a kiss on his lips. When she pulled back, Philip was blushing more than she had ever seen him blush.

She laid back down beside him, letting his arms wrap around her protectively. Gusts of wind brushed over their bodies as they lay silently under the tree. No threat of nature was going to harm them. With each other, they felt completely safe.

And whatever was going to happen in their future, they were sure they'd stay by each other's sides for all it was worth.

A/N: Thank you -theodosiaburr for the request! I did my best to make this a cute and hopeful one shot for Philip and Theodosia. I hope you liked it!
