"Wait, what are we doing?"

Pushing herself away from the sophomore who had someone gotten on top of her, Eliza made sure to exhale deeply through her nose. She assumed that her lips were at their worst, with lipstick smeared all over. Blushing and readjusting her shirt, which had been disturbed in their kissing session, she waited for an answer impatiently.

"Making out?" Alexander scratched his head, confused and flustered as to why she had stopped the moment.

"Someone could catch us though! All of my siblings should be home by now and I don't want them walking in. And since when did making out seem like something we should do?" Eliza kept taking deep breaths as she tried to get her point across.

Alexander reached forward, grasping the edge of her striped shirt. He didn't receive any protests from her, so he went a step further as to tease her by lifting the fabric up and down.

"Well, it hasn't until now. I didn't realize how attractive you were before. Maybe it's destiny telling us something." He ran a hand through his hair, looking down at the papers they had crawled over in the process. Picking up the one about history, he pretended to read over it, but just used it as something to cover his face.

Eliza breathlessly glanced back at her door, just checking to please herself. It was still shut, from when her sister had interrupted the two of them quite rudely. She cracked her knuckles nervously, reminding herself that you could never be too careful.

She headed over to the door and locked it with a snap of her wrist. Alexander set down the paper, curiously watching her. Walking back towards the bed, she gave him a reassuring smile. "If we want to continue what we started, it's best to take precautions to eliminate any possible interruptions."

God, she's smart and attractive, he thought to himself. Alexander smirked. "Of course." He looked her in the eyes, receiving her full permission. Crawling forward on his knees, crushing more of their notes, he leaned over her and placed a kiss to her lips.

An hour later, downstairs, Angelica impatiently tapped her foot. Her father poked his head around the corner and told her to tell the others dinner was prepared. She chewed her gum loudly, texting on her phone, before replying with, "Yeah, sure."

Heading to each of her siblings rooms, the oldest sister of the house told them to go downstairs and find a place at the table. Some of them were easier to get than others, so it took a slight bit of effort to send them all running to the dining room.

When she reached Eliza's door, Angelica paused before knocking. It had been a while since she'd seen that boy and her sister even get fresh air from the depths of that room. Her hand wrapped around the door knob, just as it was thrown open.

The two of them were standing in the doorway, looking at her with innocent smiles. "We heard you shouting. Surely father won't mind if Alex stays over for dinner!" She pushed past her starstruck sister, with her study partner in hand. "You'll love my mother's cooking," her voice said as they vanished down the stairs.

Angelica waited until they were definitely gone, before poking her head into the room. There was no sign of commotion. However, the one thing that stuck out to her was the head like dent in her sister's pillow. She held back a groan and then slammed the door.

Much to Eliza's pleasure, her parents were alright with another addition to the dinner table for the night. Alexander seemed slightly uncomfortable among the siblings and their routines, but he managed to fit in. He politely asked for food and thanked them when given what he wanted.

His head pounded slightly when the parents asked what they had been studying all afternoon. Gulping down pasta, Alexander racked his brain for an answer. Say something witty, you're hesitating too long, they'll notice your lie right away.

That's when the image of a paper on the French Revolution crossed his mind. It had been the exact paper he remembered seeing before making out with their daughter. Chuckling, he said, "We have an intense history exam coming up. Might not be the most enthralling subject, but your daughter certainly helped to increase my interest."

Eliza flashed him a weak smile. She prayed her parents would stop questioning him and just eat without any need to pester people. Twisting her fork into the noodles, her eyes suddenly laid upon her oldest sister who was giving her a look that was very knowing.

Cleaning her throat, she turned her gaze away and went back to her food. Alexander slyly slid his hand on to her leg, underneath the cloth of the table. Eliza physically flinched, but covered it up with a fit of coughs.

She hadn't suspected him to go that far to show affection at her family's dinner table. All she hoped was for no one to drop something and then see the hand on her knee.

"You never mentioned what your parents do for a living, son." The man of the household raised his head and gave the teenage boy a curious look. Silence consumed the room.

Alexander confidently replied, "I haven't been blessed with the comfort of having parents for a very long time, sir. One died and the other left me to fend for myself." He stabbed his fork into some mashed potatoes, meeting the eyes of the father of all the children around him.

"And I'd rather you not call me son."

"Oh, my apologizes," he stuttered out, unable to say anything more. Alexander watched as he glanced at his wife, shaking his head. Nobody ever expected it. It always left them confused and in a different, more sympathetic manner.

Eliza let her head fall downward, as she took hold of the hand underneath the table. She breathed a sigh of relief when it squeezed back.

"Don't worry. It's a common mistake people make, I understand." Except even though he didn't admit it out loud, Alexander couldn't shake away the throbbing rhythm in his chest.

After several awkward minutes passed by, the family headed in their separate directions to clear up the dining table. Angelica watched the sophomore boy from the entrance to the kitchen, wondering if she should talk to them, and give him her sympathy. But then she remembered her darling sister and turned away from his face.

Alexander collected his things and hesitated to leave in the doorway of the home. He could feel Eliza watching a few feet behind him. Turning on his heels, he reached out for her hand. Their lips suddenly brushed together, in the view of anyone who would enter the hall.

Both of them knew they wouldn't have been able to sleep that night without a goodbye kiss.

Pulling back from her face, running his thumb up her cheek, Alexander murmured, "We'll talk later, right?" Heaving the strap of his backpack higher on his shoulder, he waited for a clear answer.

"Yes, definitely." She leaned up and kissed his cheek again. It took all her strength to tear her gaze away from him and say goodbye. She waited until he shut the door behind him before dashing up the stairs to her room.

Just as she climbed onto her bed, clutching her pillow in a giddy, lovesick way, right before she heard one of her sisters in the doorway. Eliza barely listened to what they said. All her heart and mind was thinking about was Alexander.

She couldn't wait to see him again.
