Abandoned

Dresses swayed from side to side, men flirted with any female in sight, and it all seemed to be the familiar reminder of being in at yet another ball. The guests were certainly cheery and slightly drunk, taking advantage of the invitation they had been given.
But putting aside the beverages and music, all eyes were on the daughters of the man who invited them there. Three of them, adorned in jewels and dresses that were pleasing to the eye of those looking. The other siblings scattered themselves among the room, chatting it up with the many guests.
Angelica flipped her hair to the side, to show the man beside her she just wasn't interested in politics. He received her distaste like a smack in the face and scrambled off. Sighing, the oldest sister turned to her other two.
"Good heavens, isn't there anyone in this ballroom that is worth speaking to?" Tiredly running her hands together, she craned her neck to find someone who wouldn't be attracted to her in the most foolish ways. Even though she was already with someone, it couldn't hurt to hang about some other men.
Without looking at either of her sisters, she headed off to some section of the ballroom that was dimly lit. Eliza crossed her arms, tapping her foot impatiently. Why does she always have to ditch us? Nervously biting her lip, she took her younger sister by the hand.
"Where are we going, sister?" Peggy called out to her in a sarcastic tone. She never got to be the lead in anything, as her sisters believed she was too weak to handle herself. A whole twenty two years of age and she couldn't handle herself. Groaning, she let her sister drag her across the floor.
"Reckon she's caught up with some charming young man already. Why, she can capture their heart with just a flick of her hair, and yet I'm unable to get one to look at me." Eliza picked up a prepared glass of wine, shaking her head.
Peggy knew her answer wouldn't mean much, even if it was valid, so she kept her mouth shut and looked around the room again. From afar in the other corner of the ballroom, it seemed that Angelica was rather close with some man.
His face seemed familiar, but like a distant memory. One of his hands was wrapped tightly in hers, and his face leaned closer to hers. The blush on Angelica's cheeks grew. Peggy recognized that head first falling in love look.
It had been the one that she cast at a particular man one late evening. The one she gave him before kissing him in the doorway. And the one that she had when all seemed to be crumbling to the ground for them.
But to have that look for another man was very wrong. Peggy clenched her hands together, nails digging into her palm. If he dared to even make a move, she'd be over there in only a minute to end the whole thing.
All of a sudden there was the sound of a wine glass breaking. Turning her head back to her sister, Peggy gasped upon seeing the broken shards on the ground. But what frightened her even more was the helpless look on her face.
Peggy snuck a glance over to where her sister was looking. Oh no. She had latched onto the man her other sister was talking to. "Eliza," she insisted through gritted teeth, only to feel her mouth fall open when she noticed her sister heading back towards them. With the man.
The three of them met in the inner circle of the ballroom, instantly making introductions. Of course no one introduced Peggy to the handsome man. Neither of her loving sisters gave her a second glance, to bring her over.
Facing the fact she wouldn't ever find someone, or be as successful as her sisters, Peggy danced around some more. Her eyes kept flickering over in the direction of her sisters, who were clearly flirting their hearts out with that man.
And then the man leaned over and kissed Eliza's hand, all the while gazing into her eyes.
Something slammed right into the younger sister right in that moment. It wasn't anyone around her. It was a voice in her head.
Another one swept away, the voice practically laughed at her. Each of her siblings was finding love and someone to rely on and yet she was still unable to dress herself without asking for a second opinion. She couldn't live without them, and to see them having their hearts stolen, made hers only break more.
"Pull yourself together, Margarita," she scolded herself. Crossing her arms, she watched her sisters head in separate directions, with one of them hooked on the arm of a man. As much as she tried, she couldn't pry her eyes away.
Angelica strolled over to her side and sighed quite loudly, causing some stares. There was a long silence exchanged between the siblings before Peggy asked, "What's his-"
"Alexander Hamilton. Some intelligent mind he's got there, one I think our sister just fell in love with. And one that I set up for marriage."
Peggy gasped. "Marriage?" Flirting and all was fine by her, but being married was a whole different level of commitment. Especially for dear Eliza, who hadn't felt romantic feelings for anyone before.
"We'll just see what happens," Angelica calmly replied. Except underneath her tough skin she was anything but calm. Giving her sister a shaky smile, she headed over to talk to her father for the first time that whole evening.
Another one swept away, the voice in her head persisted. Peggy glanced in the direction of where her sister and the man had headed, only to see neither of them in sight.
And that was the moment Margarita Schuyler began feeling quite lonely. For years she had been surrounded by siblings and relatives, but that all seemed to be slowly slipping away.
She only had herself left against the world and whatever troubles may her surprise her in life.
. . . . . . . . . .
A/N: Thank you BroadwayFan for requesting this! I enjoyed writing from Peggy's view, since she isn't really looked upon in A Winter's Ball and so on. So therefore, the tale of the slightly abandoned Margarita was made! Hope you liked it!
