⭐️ Chapter Two ⭐️

For Herondale_Potter and sassyclassydiva. Hope you guys enjoy! Also, I didn't know that you like Hamilton, Kyla.

Maria and James got out of the car, walking up to the building. They opened the door, and walked to the little room off the office that served as the nurse's office. "Hi," The old lady greeted them. She looked at Maria. "Are you Susan's sister?" Maria's face went red. The woman's eyes widened, but then she smiled. "Susan! Your mommy's here!"

"Mommy?" A little voice popped up from the small bed. Maria walked over and stroked the toddler's hair out of her face.

"Hi, baby."

"What's wrong with her?" James asked bluntly.

"Stomach virus, I don't doubt. It'll be gone in a few days. It's a virus, so basically all you can do is wait for it to go away."

Maria nodded. She picked up the baby, holding her close. Her second birthday was in less than two months, it was in November, and it was September.

The couple walked out of the building with their sick daughter. James glared at her. "That little rat."

"Don't call her that, James, please."

"Why not? She's worthless. Makes me wonder why I agreed to you not getting an abortion like I wanted you to."

Maria glared at him and held her daughter closer.

"I swear to god Maria, if she gets vomit on my car, you're paying for it. I don't care how long it takes you, you will pay me back for having it fixed. Do you understand?"

"Yes."

James glared at her.

"Yes, sir."

"Good girl."

Maria sat the toddler in her car seat. They had had to go to the apartment and pick it up, because James kept the fact that he had a baby secret. He said that it would ruin his reputation if people knew. He and Maria's parents didn't even know. After fifteen minutes, James pulled up in front of apartment building. He got out of the car, not bothering to help his girlfriend.

Maria sighed and took her sleeping daughter out of her car seat and carried her inside. She walked over to Susan's room, which was actually just a closet that was big enough to hold a crib and a small dresser. Maria walked in and put her daughter in her crib. Susan stirred and started to cry.

"Shh, shh, shh. It's ok, baby girl, it's ok. You gotta stop crying or your daddy's gonna come in here, and that won't be fun for either of us."

Susan stopped crying. She was miserable, but she was smart enough to remember what her father did when she cried too much for his liking.

Maria leaned down and stroked on of the small girl's medium-length curls out of her face. "You'll be ok, baby."

Susan wrapped her small brown hand around her mother's. "I wove you, Mommy."

"I love you too, Susie." Maria pulled a plush pig out of the cardboard toy box on the top of the dresser.

"Pua!" The toddler exclaimed, seeing the toy. Moana was her favorite movie, it made sense that she had multiple toys. Maria handed the toy to her daughter.

"MARIA!!!" James' voice boomed. "GET IN HERE!"

"I gotta go, ok? You go to sleep. I'll be back to check on you as soon as I can, I promise."

Susan nodded and snuggled into her blankets. Maria walked out of the room, switching off the light, and gently closing the door. She hurried down the hall to the living room. There, she saw her boyfriend, Thomas, Madison, Aaron, and Charles Lee. It was a group she only part of because of her boyfriend. Before she started dating James she had been more of a loner. When she was little she played with the Schuylers, but as they got older, they somewhat formed a clique, of which Maria was not a part of.

But in seventh grade, she started dating James, and was sucked into his clique. "Hey, Maria," Aaron said, giving her a smile.

"Hey, Aaron."

"Maria, could you get us some snacks?" James asked.

"Of course." She walked to the kitchen area and put some popcorn in the microwave. When I was done, she dumped it into a bowl, and put another bag in the microwave, and took the bowl to the boys. "Here."

"Thanks, Maria," Thomas said.

Maria got a feeling in her gut that something was wrong. The microwave beeped and she took the popcorn out, and gave it to the boys. "I feel weird. I'm gonna go to bed, ok?" She said to James."

"Sure, whatever."

Maria hurried to Susan's room. The little girl was awake and fussing. She looked like she was going to throw up.

"It's alright, baby girl," Maria assured her, picking up an empty bucket, handing it to Susan. "Throw up in this."

Susan started retching. Soon she was flat out puking. When she was done, tears were pouring down her cheeks, and she was clearly about to start sobbing.

"Don't start. If Daddy hears you, he'll be mad." She stayed with her daughter until Susan fell asleep and then went to her own room, where she was supposed to be, wishing she could do more to help her daughter.
