Vanessa's pov

I sat in the crowd of the pub along with Renee, Pippa, Chris, Jazzy, Daveed, Emmy and Alex. All of us were waiting for the next singer to come on stage.

Lin and I recently got to know that I was pregnant and he wanted to perform a new song he wrote. Our whole friend group was here to support him, and as his wife, I wouldn't miss this for the world.

He walked onto the stage and sat on the stool that was placed behind the keyboard. We were all super excited because Lin's song got released and got a crazy amount of listens.

After that he got signed with a label and now here we are. Lin's last performance in the pub it all started in.

Pippa looked at me excitedly, "Have you heard the song yet?" I shook my head no. Before I had the chance to reply Lin started speaking.

"Hello hello hello, it's me again! This is gonna be my last performance here..." he started to tear up.

A bunch of the employees and regulars cheered for him.

"I will always love this place because I built my life here. I found my perfect woman, I finally, finally got signed and well I made a bunch of life long friends."

He wiped his tears with the pad of his palm. I grinned at what he said about me as Pippa and Ren nudged from the side teasing about it.

"This song... Well I wrote this a few days ago. It means a lot to me. Pippa and Chris are the only two who have heard it so don't spoil it for her." I cocked my eyebrow at them and both of them shrugged, a smile playing on both of their faces.

I look back at Lin as he continues talking. "The first few lines are just me being a little cocky..." he chuckles "Anyways here it goes". He started playing the first few notes of the song.

"I thought it'd feel different playing Wembley

It's what I've been chasing 'cause this is the dream"

He laughed at his lines making people chuckle along.

"When it was all over, I cleared out the room
Grabbed a couple beers, just me and you
Then we start talking the way that we do"

He looked me in the eyes when he sang 'you'. I remember when he got that call that he was getting signed. He was so happy he cleared up the clutter on our couch and we just sat with a few beers. What happened after that was what led us to my growing belly.

"Ain't it funny how the simplest things in life can make a man?
Little moments that pass us by
Oh, but I remember"

He smiled softly at the keys as he sang those words.

"The first kiss, the first night, the first song that made you cry"

He looked back at me as he sang the chorus. I think back to our first kiss. We were just 19 in the playground at about midnight. We were looking up at the sky but I felt him looking at me so I looked back at him.

"Hi" I whisper to him teasingly. "Hey" he whispered back clearly awestruck by something.

"You ok?" I cocked my head to the side. "Yea, yea I'm fine..." he continued looking into my eyes and then around my face. "...you just look so beautiful".

I felt my cheeks get warm as he said that, he grinned when he noticed he got me to blush.

We both didn't speak a word after this, just looked at the other's face as we slowly leaned into a soft and sweet kiss. As we pulled away, I opened my eyes and saw his eyes closed and a smile displayed on his lips, I smiled looking at his cute face.

"Wow." he said, "What? Never kissed someone before?" I teased him again. "Well no one like you..."

"The first drink, red wine, on a step in Brooklyn"

The first drink was another university adventure. Lin and I had stolen a bottle of red from our friend's dorm and went to our secret spot on the roof.

He laid the blanket on the floor so we could sit down. He sighed pretty loudly, "What are you sighing about L?" I look at him as I settle next to him.

"I don't know... This just feels perfect." I knew what he meant cause I felt it too, but I wanted to know what he would say. "What do you mean?" I rested my head on his shoulder as I leaned onto my elbows looking at the flickering stars.

"Sitting here with you. With that box of pizza. Looking into the oblivion of the sky... And drinking wine for the first time. It just all feels right with you here." he kissed my forehead.

I laughed softly "You are so cheesy".

"Well I hope I am! But really I'm not fucking around... I freaking love what we have."  I grinned at him, maybe it was the sips of wine we had on the steps leading up here but he was right all this just felt like forever to me. Like something that was totally worth my time.

"I still feel the first fight, and we both made it out alive
And I can't wait to make a million more first times

Our first fight was a little crazy since we both were not wrong but Lin was right in the end of it even though I didn't like it at the time.

"Vanessa! Girl, come here! I need you to help me out!" Anoushka yelled, I sighed it was tiring being her friend but I feel like I owe her all my energy after helping me with my admission tuitions. Lin keeps on telling me that she's just using me now but I always try to avoid that conversation because he doesn't understand.

"Yea Anou. I'm here, what do you need?" she looked at me like she had been waiting for hours. "I've got an assignment to complete by 12:00 pm, can you help me out?" I nodded, she always ended up walking away after 15 minutes leaving me to do it all by myself. She always did this, but I don't mind, she did me the biggest favour.

The dorm door opens at 7pm sharp, which is usually when Lin comes over for dinner. "Hey Nes, look I got us chinese food!" I looked up for a second, smiling at him.

"Hey, I have an assignment to complete right now." I didn't want to be specific because he would get mad, he raised his eyebrow confused. "Huh? I thought you told me that you finished everything given to you till now?" Dammit, why does he remember everything I tell him?

"Uhm..." I tried to make up a lie but nothing came to mind at that moment, and I was too late because I saw Lin slowly figure out it wasn't my work I was completing. "Van, don't tell me you're doing her work again." I sighed and dropped my head on the table.

"Oh my god! Vanessa you can't keep doing this. It's not good for you. I have told you millions of times to stop being her friend. All she does is use you!", he always tells me this but he will never understand.

"Lin for once stop nagging. You always do this, you never even listen! It's like you only care about being right here!" he looked at me with a hurt expression. "You think I don't care about you!? Thats what you think huh? Chris told me she was going around telling people you were a sl*t, a whore! She doesn't care about you. She only uses you, all she does is talk shit about you and then make you do all her work. She doesn't care about you Vanessa. She never did. Maybe you should listen to people who actually love you..." he had a tear in his eye.

"You don't know her like I do, have you ever taken the time to get to know her rather than just judging her based on what you hear from other people" Vanessa scoffed.

"Vanessa I'm only trying to protect you, I don't want to hurt you." his voice broke, he wasn't yelling anymore, only trying to make a point.

"And you think you aren't hurting me right now" I turned around still fuming, I heard him let out a strangled breath. With how broken he sounded I realized I had gone too far.

"Lin..." I tried to talk but he cut me off, "No. Please I don't want to hurt you more than I already did." he started to back up towards the door. "Please eat, I don't want you to faint again." he turned around and walked away...

"The greatest thing that I have achieved
Those four little words, down on one knee
Said, "Darling, are you joking?"
And I just said, "Please""

I smiled remembering when he proposed.

"Nessa let's go for a drive! We could get snacks and do our favorite thing" he said, grinning and looking a little nervous.

"And what's our favorite thing?" I raised my eyebrow at him. "Hey it's not dirty" he frowned but then gave it a thought before shaking his head and getting back to the point.

"Stargazing Nes. STARGAZING. It's been our thing since we met!" I chuckled now that I know he thought of us doing it out in his car.

"Ok I don't mind doing that. But what snacks are we talking about?" I asked.

"You." he wiggled his eyebrows at me, I roll my eyes smacking his arm.

We were on our way to our spot when I noticed Lin gripping the steering wheel really hard. He stopped the car at a signal, I reached for his hand and held it.

"You good Miranda?" he just nodded, not speaking, as he looked at me before the signal turned green.

Once we reached he took his hands and wiped them on his pants. I looked at him concerned but I didn't say anything just yet.

We set up the ground with the blanket and got the food and drinks placed on it as well. He kept on fidgeting with his jacket pockets, and looked pretty nervous, even more so than before.

"Lin? Babe you ok?" he looked at me and I saw that he was genuinely scared but also a little excited.

"I will be once I ask you this. Well I hope I will be..." if I understood enough, it looked like he was going to ask me a very very important question.

He took in a deep breath before going down on one knee and taking a dark blue velvety box out. He opened the box revealing a silver ring with a small solitaire on it. It was beautiful.

"Vanessa I love you so much you don't even know..." he looked at his palm but realized that it was so sweaty all the ink got smudged, he let out a little shriek. As much as I wanted to giggle in that moment I couldn't move, he shook his head and said, "Ugh forget it I'm gonna freestyle this." He took in another deep breath before talking.

"I met you on the first day of uni in that pub and I'm so glad that happened because if I hadn't met you I would be so lonely and useless right now. I wouldn't have as much motivation if you weren't with me. So I want to ask you if you would like to spend the rest of your life with me, because I want to. Like really really want to." he looked at the ground for a second before looking back at me.

My eyes were watering and I had a huge smile on my face. "You are the only person that has stuck by me through everything and I don't think I'll ever be ready to let that go... I love you so so much Vanessa Adriana Nadal, I really do, with all my heart. So here it goes... Will you marry me?"

I couldn't believe he was proposing. Like I really couldn't believe it. My hand was on my mouth, I lost my breath for a second.

"Darling are you joking?" I asked him, he let out a sob before shaking his head no "Please..." he let out a few tears.

"Yes I will.." I sobbed out, before he could stand up I knelt down and hugged him. His arms wrapped around me, and I'm so happy that I will never have to live without this feeling.

He pulled out of the hug to slowly put the ring on my finger. "It fits." I let out a wet chuckle, he nodded with tears in his eyes. I leaned in and kissed him, I felt him smile into it. I can't wait for the beginning of us.

I was crying as I heard him singing all the important milestones of our life. And if you looked at him you could tell he was getting emotional.

"The first kiss, the first night, the first song that made you cry"

The first song that made me cry was a song that Lin wrote for me. I usually never cry at songs, but the song he wrote just hit those spots for me.

"The first look in your eyes when I said "I love you",
I can still feel the butterflies from when we stumbled home that night
I can't wait to make a million more first times
(Mmm, mmm)"

We were walking in a local book store hand in hand. I spotted 'The World Gives Way' by Marissa Levien, so I ran to the shelf and took it out reading the back of it. I've been searching for it since so many people recommended it to me.

Lin laughed walking up behind me  "You're so cute. I love you." he said without thinking. I looked at him, his eyes widened when he realized what he did.

I smiled my eyes looking at him with nothing but love. "I love you too." I blushed as the words left my mouth.

He grinned when I said that and pecked my lips locking in this memory.

Ren had her arm around my shoulders as we heard his lyrics. The melodies flowing through the room. He was right, the simplest things in our relationship made us stronger than anything I've had before.

He sniffled as the music got softer.

"The first kiss, first night, first song that made you cry
First dance in moonlight in your parents' garden, I"

The night my parents had their anniversary party at their house, we all went to wish them. Lin and I were only months into our relationship but it was truly something I couldn't believe I had.

My parents fell in love with Lin when they met him. He had that effect on people, he just had a lovable personality.

Our house was decorated in such a way that I thought I was looking at a Pinterest picture. It was so pretty.

We had a nice dinner, drank some wine which ultimately lead us to slow dancing in my parents garden. After we started dancing we saw a bunch of other couples join in.

We held each other close as we slowly swayed to the soft music. For some reason we couldn't take our eyes off of each other. His big brown eyes always drew me in, I could look away if I wanted to but I don't want to stop looking at him, and from the looks of it he didn't either.

After the song was over Daveed came over and told us that since all of us drank we have to stay at my parents. I didn't mind and my parents didn't either. It was a good night.

"Can't wait to see everything that's yet to be
Our first child and then a million more first times"

I let out a soft but happy sob when he mentioned our child. I couldn't wait for this life we were going to build.

He wiped his tears and gave a few last words before coming towards us. I stood up and hugged the life out of him, but he didn't mind. "I love you so much" I whispered in his ear.

"I love you so much too" he kissed my cheek.

"You guys are so freakin cute" Emmy said, her back was leaning against Daveed's body with his arms wrapped around her.

"You don't get to talk Em" Lin said laughing, pointing at the way they were standing.

We all settled at the table and ordered some wings and a couple of drinks. Cheers to our first times!
