HUNTSMAN'S PREDATOR
EDEN- CORTEXIA SATELLITE FACILITY
APRIL 29TH 2558 11:11AM
ODST: Samuel Cross
We searched the drop zone but there was nothing except a few busted pods with dead bodies inside. It was a terrible sight, nothing but blood everywhere, the pods that landed correctly were opened but no one was around. I took the chance to check in with KC, she said that her coms with Yokè was broken as we came into orbit and that its been lost ever since. I scanned for Yokè's pod and found it, only in was ablaze along side a few other pods.
The troopers were missing and none of them seemed to have taken their spare ammo, it was all still in the pods. The forest itself smelled of death and disease. Thankfully our helmets filter the air that we breathe so it's not so stench filled. Just as we were about to head back towards the facility gunshots went off from the northern side of the forest, soon after followed by screams. The men and I ran towards the sounds and found the men in a cave like area. The Flood had erupted from the area and spawning eggs were everywhere, the men were pinned down and the Flood were crawling over everything.
I heard Yokè's voice yelling at the men to shoot more, right after that a loud shriek that was mixed with a growling sound came from the same direction. I ordered Vexis to get on a hill and see what it was but he was hesitant, I had James and George follow up with me towards the area. James looked at me and I could hear the pride and ego ringing through his voice, "think we should pop in and give them a show for an entrance? After all we do like to drop in and shock things up."
George placed his shot gun onto his shoulder and spoke sternly, "or we can flank 'em and give 'em a surprise." Both moved closer as they became more frustrated by one another, I snapped to them, "James, George, both of you quit it! We're going in my way behind the other troopers and assisting them to clear out the point. Got it?" They both answered with a sarcastic, "yes sir."
Just as they did men screamed from the other side, I looked at the team then ran, jumping right in with the other ODST's. There were only 3 of Yokè's men left, one of which was corporal Starline, he was badly injured. Yokè injected the wound with battle foam but it didn't fully stop him from bleeding, the foam itself was faulty. I turned and looked upon the enemy that they were laying fire to, only to see a monstrous beast created by the flood infection. Its rear body had tendrils as thick as a scorpions barrel, heavily well plated skin which bullets ricocheted off. Its mouth was very similar to an elites except this thing had tusks and four eyes. The men claimed they had never seen a creature like this on Eden before. I looked down at its feet, the thing had razor sharp claws with only four toes.
The men began shooting at it and the spawns that came with it, but the action was fully and utterly useless, there was no way in hell we would make it out if we kept shooting at the thing. I told the men to hold their fire and pull back, then with Yokè's help I grabbed Starline and we moved back to the facility.
Once we reached the building again I heard its screech from that echoing through the forest. I looked over my shoulder and there it was storming towards us in a fully raged manner with increasing speed. I rushed the men inside as I turned back with my duel SMGs cocked and ready.
I was ready for death at this time when all I heard was a loud rifle shot and this thing scream in pain, then collapse right in front of me. I looked past it and on the other side of the ridge stood Vexis with a cocky stance and his rifle resting, smoking, on his shoulder.
He walked over and stood in front of me, huffed then spoke, "thanks for leaving me behind, CAPTAIN." I replied to Vexis, "listen, I couldn't contact you and it was to dangerous to bring our distance rifleman in but for what its worth thanks pal."
He shrugged and stepped inside, I followed but quickly changed paths towards Yokè, once I got there he looked at me and through his body language I knew he was pissed. Before I could say a word he exploded on me, "why the hell didn't you come get us faster! Good men died today and for what, your little slow wander through the park?"
I simply took a step back and crossed my arms, "yea and the covenant would have the data they wanted and left by now. Be thankful I even cared about your sorry ass, this is war, men and woman die each day and there's nothing we can do about it."
Yoké stood up from his seat then walked over to Corporal Starline who was laying down on a stretcher, his arm was stabbed right through by a flood creature, his skin became more and more paler. His eyes were turning bloodshot and his iris itself became a bright red, I knew what was going on and I had to stop it. I pulled out a single SMG and held down the trigger from his head to his torso. Yokè quickly yanked me away and yelled with rage, "what the hell do you think you just did! He was one of us Samuel, have you forgotten which side you're on!?"
I put away my gun and replied in a strong tone, "no, but he might have if I didn't do that." Yoke had never noticed the change in Starline's body, I had to do something to save the rest of us. I took a walk upstairs to see if the scientists were okay. I was greeted by a strange woman at the door, probably in her late twenties.
"Sorry trooper only scientists and personal are allowed in here." My temper shot up as she spoke, I just couldn't keep it in, "are you kidding me! I just saved your god damn lives and I'm not allowed to see what ever the fuck it is you're working on!?"
She simply glared at me and said, "good bye trooper," then slammed the door in my face. I turned around and muttered angrily to myself under my breath, "great going Samuel, really nice way to get to the ladies huh." I let out a heavy a sigh and carried on downstairs. I put my back against a wall and closed my eyes and I slid down to the floor, exhausted.
