T 6:10
I steepled my fingers and tried not to bash the bastard's head in.
He sat on the other side of my mahogany desk, dollar signs practically shining in his eyes. He was some business man, someone important on Wall Street, and so my superior had practically shoved him my way. Along with a veiled threat to do whatever it took to get his case.
But as I listened, it became clear that this idiot deserved the services of my counterpart, who did her job at night.
"Mr...?"
He smirked at me. "No need for such formality. You can call me Judas. After all, we'll be working very closely for this case."
"Yes. You want to divorce your wife, and not have to pay any alimony or child support for your two year old daughter?"
He waved a hand. "Yes, yes. It was in the pre-nup, it should be no problem for a lawyer of your capabilities. I'm also demanding a two-million dollar restitution, for wasting my time during the marriage—"
Well, guess I wasn't going to watch Netflix tonight. I gave him a strained smile. "Of course, sir. Can we discuss the details tonight? I'm afraid all my appointment hours today are booked solid." I added in a little sultry laugh to top off the bait.
And yes, his eyes gleamed. "Of course, Miss Adama. Say, nine o'clock? I'll have my butler pick you up."
I blushed and fluttered my eyelashes. "O-oh, you really don't have—"
"It'll be my pleasure." He winked at me and turned to go. Finally.
I dropped the act as soon as I was alone. And then I smiled.
Disgusting. Humans are so disgusting, it sneered.
I looked out over the city, watching him get into his fancy car. "Yes—I quite agree."
"Hello, Judas." I grinned at the pure terror washing over his face. It was ten, and Miss Adama had just left after her private consultation with her prospective client. And Halo had just arrived. Of course, the fact that he'd grabbed me for a slimy, unwanted goodbye kiss didn't help his cause.
I edged closer inside the hallway. "Aren't you going to let me in?" I saw his hand reach inside his pocket, probably for his cell phone. "Oh no, I wouldn't do that if I were you. Think of how much it'll cost to have the cops come. You know their services aren't exactly free, right?"
He hesitated for just a moment, and I lunged, grabbing his arm and tugging out his phone. I dangled it just out of reach. "You have been judged, and found wanting. Your sin is Greed." I laugh. "Even when your life on was the line, you still hesitated to spend money. It's very fitting that your name is Judas, who sold out the King of Kings for thirty silver coins."
I stepped into his house. He backed away. "Halo, look, I'll give you whatever you want. I'm a very rich man—"
"I don't want your blood money. 'For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs'." I smiled at him as the teardrop fell.
"You know, justice doesn't always mean death."
The drop soaked into his skin.
"Sometimes, it means living your worst fears."
He stared at me with wide, blinking eyes.
"I wonder what the worst fear of the greedy are?"
I swiped his forehead with my fingers, and watched the fine clothes disappear. Watched as he opened his eyes and screamed when he beheld the scraps and rags he was wearing.
