7 - Coffee
Narrator
Mi Rae had finally placed her brother to sleep. She kissed him on the forehead and apologized multiple times about how she was being selfish. She laid down on her bed, trying to fall asleep. Each and every time she tried to go to sleep, she ended up with her eyes open and her body up straight.
She rubbed her tired eyes and got up from her bed. Mi Rae looked at her brother who was still calmly sleeping without a problem.
She walked out and headed towards the guest room that Jungkook stayed in. She hesitated for a moment whether or not to disturb him from his sleep. Mi Rae opened the door anyways. "What's wrong?" Jungkook asks, his voice slightly hoarse and raspy. "I can't seem to fall asleep," Mi Rae's cheeks turned pink and fortunately, it was dark so no one could see.
"Lay down here," he gestured to the spot next to him. She slipped into the bed and covered her body with the blanket.
She came face to face with Jungkook as he smiled. She awkwardly tried to avoid his eyes and turned around, her back facing him. Jungkook chuckled quietly to himself. Mi Rae shifted into a fetal position, closing her eyes as she tried to fall asleep. She heard a slight whisper from behind her, but by that point, she already fell into a deep sleep.

The curtains were wide open; the sunlight radiating through the window and into the room. Mi Rae stirred in her sleep due to all the snoring in the room. She groaned as she sat up, rubbing her tired eyes. Jungkook was laying on the ground with the blanket entangled to him.
Mi Rae laughed a bit before standing in front of him. She lightly nudged him with her foot, but there was no response at all.
She sighed and bent down. Drool was coming out of his mouth and Jungkook's hair was everywhere. "Wake up," she said. No response again. Mi Rae flicked her finger onto his forehead. Jungkook groaned and rubbed his forehead with his hands.
He got up, scratching his belly and wiping his drool off with a tissue. "Is this how you act every morning?" Mi Rae raised an eyebrow.
Jungkook gasped, looking slightly offended. "How dare you?!" He flipped his imaginary long hair before he scoffed. Mi Rae shook her head and walked towards her room. Her brother was still sleeping in his crib. She smiled to herself before walking towards the bathroom.
She shut the door and thought about what happened yesterday in the ocean. Jungkook was right. I'm a coward and I could do better than that.
"Jungkook! Next time, be a gentleman and put the seat down!" She shouted. She used the toilet, washed her hands and face and brushed her teeth. She walked out of the bathroom and sat on the couch.
Mi Rae was sort of glad her parents weren't here. It relieved her stress and the fact that she wasn't abused at the moment made her happy. She traced where her scars used to be on her skin, but they were gone somehow. The wound on her head, the bruises, and the scars on her body were all gone. It was very strange. She had noticed it days ago, but she had ignored it. Something was strange about Namjoon and Jungkook. It'll only be a matter of time before she finds out.
She thought about what day it was and her eyes widened. She cursed out loud. "What's wrong?" Jungkook bursted out into the living room, ready with a lamp in his hand. "I forgot there's school today. Oh my god, how can I forget that? I'm so stupid," she panicked.
"Um. We can just ditch?" Jungkook made a suggestion. Mi Rae paced around the room. It was already too late to go to school so she just agreed to Jungkook's suggestion.
"Hey. Let's go to a coffee shop. I haven't filled my stomach with caffeine for so long. I'm pretty sure it misses it a lot," he rubbed his stomach as he joked around, "also I want to take you somewhere I've been meaning to tell you about."
Mi Rae shrugged and said, "sure. Why not?" He smiled before running back into the guest room.
She changed into her clothes. And as if on cue again like last time, the doorbell rang and there appeared Namjoon. It's weird how he appears at the right moment every single time. She was suggesting whether or not to switch the babysitter because he's been breaking a lot of things lately. He's already broken her younger brother's toy, the kitchen cabinet, a freaking metal fork, and the bathroom lock. She wouldn't be surprised if he broke a door off.
He might be made out of steel for all I know, Mi Rae thought to herself.
She opened the door and allowed Namjoon in. "We're going somewhere again so please don't destroy my brother or else, you're the one who's going to be destroyed," Mi Rae warned. He gulped and nodded quickly. Jungkook came out and they both got out of the house after saying goodbye.
The coffee shop was nearby so they quickly ordered two espresso macchiatos. The waitress placed the cups down and they thanked her as she walked away.
Mi Rae clasped her hand around the cup, warming her hands faster. She took a sip of the hot espresso macchiato and sighed, looking out the window. The slight bitterness and the heat of the espresso tingled at her tongue. People were passing by while minding their own business.
"Why did you want to bring me here?" Mi Rae asked, breaking the silence between the both of them.
"Just because. Today I want to go everywhere with you, but that's impossible with the time I have left," Jungkook muttered the last sentence to himself so that Mi Rae couldn't hear him. Mi Rae raised her eyebrow before nudging him with her finger.
"Why do you look so sad? Cheer up, okay?" Mi Rae smiled. She used her two fingers to lift the edges of his mouth, creating an awkward smile. Jungkook held her hands against his cheek and smiled sincerely.
This might be the last day I'll ever see you again.
