30. REUNION

"Vanya," Allison breathed. She stared at her sister in disbelief as Vanya, along with the rest of us, began to make our way down the steps and rejoin each other.

"I can't believe I have a sister," Vanya said. Her eyes sparkled in excitement.

Allison seemed taken aback by her words. She must not have known that Vanya lost her memories. Nonetheless, she sent her sister a kind smile as she spoke, "I missed you."

Vanya shrugged slightly. "Thank God someone did," she chuckled softly. The two women didn't hesitant to move in for a long awaited hug.

Klaus looked away from his sisters and to Diego, who he tried to hug too, but Diego pushed him away. "Oh, you are drunk," he remarked.

"Yeah," Klaus admitted. "No, just a little.. just a few- Oh, that's so sweet." He stumbled over to Allison and Vanya and wrapped his arms around them with a large smile spread across his face.

"No-" Allison protested. Klaus had already joined in on the hug though. "Jesus.."

"Oh, hi," Vanya mumbled.

"Hey, Vanny," Klaus said. I frowned at the three siblings' relationship with each other. It was so cute!

"Klaus," Five spoke up. "Is Ben here?"

Klaus pulled away from the hug to reply, "Oh, uh.. no. Unfortunately, ghosts can't time travel."

My eyebrows furrowed as I spoke to myself, "Why don't I believe that?"

"Alright, then," Five sighed. "Let's get down to business." I followed after him as we all made our way back up the steps.

"So, Vanny, what's new?" Klaus asked his sister. The two of them went off and had their own separate conversation.

"Hey, Diego," Allison said. "Can't say 'hi' to nobody?"

Diego rolled his eyes. "Hi, Allison."

"What was that?" She asked again.

"Hi, Allison!" Diego said with more enthusiasm.

Allison chuckled, "Thank you!"

"Alright," Five started. He stood in front of us and began his speech. "First off, I wanna say I'm sorry. I know I really screwed the pooch on this whole going-back-in-time-and-getting-stuck thing." Yeah, he really did mess that one up. "But the real kick in the pants here is we brought the end of the world back here with us."

"Oh my God, again?" Klaus exclaimed. He was currently pouring himself another glass of alcohol. His eyes glanced at each of us before he sighed. "All of you knew? Why am I always the last one to find out about the end of the- oh my god! My cult is gonna be so pissed, Five! I told them we had until 2019." You know, I wasn't even surprised that Klaus had formed a cult. In fact, I kind of wanted to go and see what it was all about to be honest.

"We have until Monday," Five stated. "We have six days."

"Is it Vanya?" Klaus asked. He took a gulp of his alcohol.

"Klaus," Allison lectured.

"What?" Klaus questioned her in surprise. "It's usually Vanya." The brunette woman just shook her head. I felt bad that everyone just assumes that it's her that ends the world again.

"Do you have any leads, Five?" Vanya asked.

"Yeah, we have one," Five replied. Diego handed him the file containing the picture of Reginald Hargreeves from the Frankel Footage, and then passed it to Allison for the rest of the group to see.

"Holy shit, is that Dad?" Allison asked in disbelief.

"Yeah," Diego said.

"That's him?" Vanya asked. She leaned over so she could get a better look at the image.

"Standing on the grassy knoll," Diego added.

"Diego, Lexa, and I have been trying to talk to him about what exactly this means," Five explained. "So far, we've got nothing."

"Well, Diego and Luther both got shanked," I spoke up. "That's gotta count for something." Five chuckled softly, while the other two men rolled their eyes.

"Not nothing," Diego said. "He's planning to kill Kennedy." I wasn't sure why he was so obsessed with the president. It was starting to sound like he was in love with him or something.

"Maybe," Five said with a shrug. "But we don't know who or what sets doomsday in motion. Could be Kennedy, could be something entirely independent. But if we know something changes the timeline, we have to make it right again."

"What if it's Alexa?" Luther asked. "Didn't you say she was a glitch?"

"Really?" I remarked, glaring at Luther.

"It's not Lexa," Five defended me. "She may be a glitch in the timeline, but I highly doubt she's the cause of the apocalypse."

"How are we supposed to fix this if we don't know what's broken?" Allison asked, changing the topic.

"Oh, come on. Do the math," Diego replied as if it were an obvious answer. "We know Dad's having shady-ass meetings with some shady-ass people. We know he's on the grassy knoll in three days to kill the president. I think we all know what we have to do."

"Find Dad."

"Kill Dad."

Five and Diego spoke simultaneously. My eyes glanced between the two of them.

"None of us are supposed to be here, right?" Vanya asked. "I mean, what if it's us? Has anyone here done anything to screw up the timeline?"

Luther's eyes instantly met mine. "You better look away right now, Moon Man," I huffed.

The blonde immediately averted his eyes and then shrugged. "Well, Diego's been stalking Lee Harvey Oswald."

"And you're working for Jack Ruby!" Diego shot back, pointing his finger in accusation.

"Allison has been very involved in local politics," Klaus pointed out.

"Okay, you started a cult," Allison reasoned with him. Klaus imitated a tiger as he hissed and growled at an empty chair.

"I'm just a nanny on a farm," Vanya said. "I don't have anything to do with all of that."

"Well, maybe you do, and we just don't know it yet," Allison said skeptically.

Diego whistled sharply to get everyone's attention. "Listen to yourselves," he said. "Everything in our lives is connected to Kennedy. That can't be a coincidence. Luther works for Ruby, Allison is protesting the government, Dad is on the grassy knoll, Klaus is.. doing something weird and pervy but probably related, Alexa is afraid of one of the most innocent foods-"

"Alright, that has nothing to do with the apocalypse or Kennedy," I interrupted.

"I know," Diego began to laugh. "I just had to remind everyone of that."

"Oh okay, we'll, thanks for that, Diego," I said sarcastically.

He sent me a curt nod before continuing his speech, "See, clearly, we were all sent back here for one special reason." He took a dramatic pause. "Saving John Fitzgerald Kennedy."

"So you guys are on a full name basis now?" I remarked. Diego rolled his eyes.

"Guys, you all die," Five spoke up. His statement took all of us off-guard. He glanced around the room and met each of our eyes with a saddened expression. I can't even imagine what he just be feeling right now. He watched his family die in the first apocalypse and now he had to watch it happen all over again. The rest of us were lucky because we got a few years in between the two doomsday, but Five only got a few weeks, days even. "I was there. I saw it.. And I wanna forget it, but I can't," Five said. For someone who always holds himself to the highest standards, he looked so upset and broken. I reached out and held his hand, beginning to rub comforting circles on his skin. Five sent me a grateful smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "I saw Russian nukes vaporize the world with all of you in it.. In a war that never happened until we brought it here. Hazel gave his life to save us, so you may need to shut up and just listen to me." The previous tension in the room was gone now. All that was left was somber silence. "I don't know if the things we've experienced here are all connected.. I don't know if there's a reason for everything. But Dad will. We need to talk to him before everyone and everything we know is dead."

"Okay, I'm out!" Luther exclaimed, standing up almost immediately. I couldn't understand how someone could be so uncaring and ignorant. We basically caused the end of the world all over again and he didn't seem to give a damn.

"Did you even hear me, Luther?" Five asked, almost offended by his brother's sudden disinterest.

"Yeah," Luther sighed. "Yeah, I did. I heard your little speech and how you still want your daddy to come and fix everything. Well, you can count me out. It's time we all grew the hell up."

God, Luther really made my blood boil.

"Luther!" Vanya exclaimed. Her brother had already began to make his way over to the steps. "Come back!"

"Where you going?" Klaus asked.

Diego stood up as well and followed after Luther, who was completely unfazed by him. "Save it, Diego." Luther turned on his heel and started walking down the steps now with Diego still following after him.

Five shook his head in anger and dropped my hand as he teleported in front of Luther on the staircase. "No one leaves until we figure this out," he declared.

Luther huffed and grabbed Five by the collar. He tossed him over the railing but before he could hit the floor, Five teleported out of sight.

Now, it was my turn to dramatically stand up. I walked over to Luther and phased through him as I passed him on the steps. I spun on my heel and mustered up one of the angriest glares of my life. "How about you trying being a somewhat tolerable human being for once instead of an asshole all of the damn time!" I exclaimed. Luther froze up at my sudden outburst.

Before he could say anything, I stormed out of Elliot's apartment building, not even bothering to open the door as I phased right through the glass. My legs moved quickly as I walked back over to the alleyway I had appeared in when I first arrived in this timeline. Much to my surprise, Five wasn't there. I walked back out to the street and glanced both ways, but I didn't see him anywhere.

Then, I spotted the person dressed in all black again. Whoever was behind the dark, faceless masks stood as still as a statue. Although I couldn't see the person's eyes, I could feel them staring intensely at me. I wasn't sure whether I should go over and confront the person or just wait for them to make the first move.

"Who are you?" I shouted to the black figure from across the street. There was no response. "What do you want from me?" The person didn't reply again. Instead, whoever was behind the mask started sprinting down the street, weaving in and out of the usual crowd. As the person ran away, I caught sight of their red boots.

With a sigh, I turned back and walked into Elliot's apartment building again. I decided I would hold off on chasing after the mystery person. Besides, I was not in the mood for fighting or killing right now.

I made my way back upstairs to where Vanya, Allison, and Klaus were still sitting. Luther and Diego must have left when I ran after Five, who, of course, was nowhere to be seen.

"You know, I could really go for some tacos right now," Klaus said. He was using a spoon to play with Elliot's jello. "Allison? Tacos?"

"Shouldn't we wait?" Allison asked.

"You know those guys," Klaus sighed. "I mean, it could take forever for them to 'bro' it out.. Vanya, Alexa, tacos?"

"Is there any way that tacos are gonna cause the end of the world?" Vanya asked. She sounded so tired of this doomsday conversation. I didn't blame her though.

Allison scoffed as she picked up her purse. "I mean, there's only one way to find out, right?" Klaus said, snapping his fingers in excitement.

"Sure is," Allison laughed softly.

"I'm in," I said with a small smile.

"Alright, let's go!" Klaus exclaimed. All of us stood up and began to go back outside again.

I was beyond excited to do something that didn't involved the Order or the apocalypse. I think this is the break that I've been needing for a long time now.
