28. LILA'S BETRAYAL

I was about to question his suddenly worried expression, until the man in front of us pushed me onto the ground. My body hit the floor roughly from the unexpected motion. He grabbed Five by the collar and slammed him against the wall. My eyes widened as I watched him teleport behind the man with the white hair and kick his leg in. Five jumped onto his back after he fell to the ground and began to strangle him. The man grabbed ahold of Five's shoulders and flipped the boy over himself and onto the ground.

"Who the hell is this guy?" I exclaimed as I stood up again. Five got back up to his feet quickly and grabbed my hand, teleporting us to the opposite end of the hall.

"One third of the Swedes," Five answered.

My eyes rolled. "Perfect timing," I remarked.

When the man turned around, Five tried to use his powers again to teleport but he appeared to be out of energy. "Oh, shit," Five spoke lowly. Our eyes slowly stared at up the Swedish man, who had a menacing look on his face.

I turned towards Five and sent him a confident smirk. "Don't worry," I said. "I got this."

I kicked my foot up and phased out of my heel, catching it in my right hand, while I just ditched the other one behind. The Swedish man and I were at complete ends of the hall, walking swiftly towards each other until the two of us both broke out into a sprint. My legs moved at full speed as I clutched onto my heel with my right hand. The Swedish man dropped to the floor as he attempted to sweep my legs out from under me. I quickly threw myself into a handless front flip over him. I was thankful that Silas had pushed me to learn some new techniques.

Before the Swedish man was able to get up and turn around, I ran and jumped onto his back. The man spun around, trying to shake me off but my grasp on him was too tight. I took my new heel and stabbed him in the back of his shoulder. Then, I pulled the shoe out and stabbed him again in another spot. Blood spurred out once I removed the show. The crimson color squirted upward onto my face. I squeezed my mouth and eyes shut as I cringed. That might not have been my brightest idea.

The man let out a cry of pain and instinctively rammed his back into the wall, causing me to loose my hold on him. The wind was knocked out of me as I fell onto the floor from the impact. He began to walk towards me as I crawled backwards on the floor, waiting for him to get a bit closer, until I kicked myself off the ground into a backwards flip. The Swedish man dodged my attack as he stepped backward quickly. I was on my feet again with my fists held up in the air now.

"Lexa! Behind you!" Five called out. I was too late to act though because another Swedish man came up and wrapped his arm around my neck. He began dragging me down the hall as my feet desperately tried to plant my body down. I could feel myself losing air the tighter his hold on my neck became.

At the other end of the hall, Five's powers were still not working. The original Swedish man began to swing his fists into Five's stomach repeatedly.

"Five?" Diego said as he suddenly appeared at the top of the steps. Before he could glance my way, the third Swedish brother appeared. He wrapped something around Diego's neck as he began to pull him away from Five.

The man holding onto me wrapped a singular hand around my throat and lifted me off the floor. My feet dangled as my back was held against the wall behind me. I felt the air slowly being choked out of me as the man squeezed my neck tighter.

I finally found the will power to phase through the his hand. My knees collapsed from under me as I dropped to the ground once again. I quickly crawled back towards Five to help him from the oldest Swedish brother. My breathing was heavy and uneasy as I coughed for air.

Before I was able to make it back over to the end of the hall, the Swedish brother, who was choking me before, grabbed onto my legs and began pulling me in the opposite direction. I phased my hands through the floor to stop him from pulling me, but once I did that he kicked my back down.

I flipped over and was now staring straight at his towering body. The man was about to send another kick towards me, but I swiftly rolled out of the way. I was able to get back up onto my feet while he was distracted by his own combat moves.

"Lila!" Diego shouted for help. He was struggling to free himself for a chokehold. Lila glanced at Diego before looking down the hall at Five, who was still getting beaten up pretty badly. "Help.. Me!" Diego said through clenched teeth. She sent Diego a saddened look that was mixed with regret as she turned her back on him and ran down the hall to help Five. I wasn't too surprised by her actions, but I didn't understand why she would just abandon Diego.

The Swedish man began sending numerous punches in my direction, but I was able to duck or dodge every single one of them. We moved in synchronization together, almost like a rehearsed dance as I waited for an opening to go on the offensive.

He attempted to hit me with a left hook, so I tilted my head backwards as I phased his arm directly into the wall beside us. The man tried yanking his wrist but made no avail. It was completely stuck in the wall.

I used this as my opportunity to strike back. I kicked my leg up into the Swedish man's groin, causing him to fall down onto his knees as he whimpered. It really was an easy weak spot for men.

Five and I rejoined each other in the center of the hall. His eyes glanced over me quickly as he asked, "Are you okay?"

I nodded my head. "I'll be fine," I answered, though my neck would surely be bruised for awhile.

Five took my response for now and grabbed my hand as he teleported us out of the building. I felt kind of bad for leaving Diego, similar to how Lila had, but I knew he was more than capable of taking care of himself.

Once we were back outside, Five raced to the front of the building in an effort to reach his father in time before he left. When he saw Reginald he shouted something in a language I wasn't familiar with. It caught his Dad's attention though but not for long because he slid into the backseat of a limousine without saying a word to Five.

"Was that him?" Diego asked. Him and Lila had just made their way back to us outside.

"Yeah," Five said simply. "You know, I'm starting to get the feeling Dad's avoiding us."

"Hate to be the boring one, guys, but I think it's time we get the hell out of here," Lila spoke up.

She started wandering off but stopped when Five called after her, "When you say 'we,' who exactly are you referring to?"

Lila breathed a soft laugh. "Not a lot of ambiguity in that sentence," she remarked.

"Listen," Five demanded. He leaned over and stared her down with a sharp glare. "I don't know who you are or where you came from, but whatever it is, I'd advise you return posthaste."

Diego sighed, "She's right, Five. We gotta get outta here."

"I just saved your life, you kinder-shit!" Lila exclaimed. "If I hadn't stepped in, all that would be left of you is a blazer and some bloody socks."

"And that's the problem," Five pointed out. "You're too good. You ask too many questions. You know too much. And you fight like you know what you're doing."

"He's got a point," Diego added. I could tell that he was hesitant in saying that because of his interest in the girl, but even Diego knew when something was too good to be true.

"So I know how to handle myself, and that makes me the bad guy?" Lila asked, "No one's questioning the other kid here."

"Don't bring Lexa into your twisted stories," Five warned Lila. He had that crazed look in his eyes that I—oddly—found attractive and terrifying at the same time.

I held up my hand in front of Five to calm him down. "Look, I may not have the brightest backstory, but at least I'm honest about who I am."

"You sure about that?" Lila's eyes narrowed at mine, almost as if she were testing me. She knew something that I didn't. I could tell based off the look she gave me.

"Positive," I stated. Regardless of whatever she held over my head, I answered with confidence. "How about you?"

"Oh, it's not me you need to be worrying about, 'Ghostwalker'," Lila spat.

My eyes went wide suddenly. "What did you just call me?" I asked. I knew I heard her correctly, but I was just appalled as to why she would use the nickname. "It was you all along, wasn't it?" I exclaimed. "You're the one who's been following me around, and you're the one who sent me that card!"

Lila's laugh made my blood boil even more than it already was before. "I haven't got the slightest idea what you're talking about." Her fake act of innocence nearly sent me into a frenzy.

"What do you know!" I shouted angrily. My expression changed into one of pure rage as I took a threatening step towards her. I wanted to wipe that smirk right off her face, but Five grabbed onto my wrist and pulled me back.

"More than you think," Lila replied ominously. If it weren't for Five holding me back, I would've snapped already.

"Whoever you are, you're in our way," Five interrupted bluntly. "If I see you again, I will kill you." He began to pull me away from her by my wrist that he was still holding onto. My narrowed eyes never left Lila's until she was behind us.
