19. BACK IN ACTION

Two suspicious-looking figures suddenly creeped out of an alleyway on the right side of the street. The two men stepped out of the darkness and swiftly walked across the street. I immediately recognized them as our targets, so I shook Leo awake with my left hand and pointed to them with my right. "Those are our guys," I nearly exclaimed. Leo followed to where I was pointing and then nodded. His hand was about to turn the keys and ignite the car but I stopped him. "We need to be stealthy. Our orders were to eliminate them, so the minute they know we're here our cover will be blown."

"Alright, let's follow them," Leo said. He pressed a button to unlock the doors. Both of us hopped out of the car and began running after the two men. I pulled my black mask up over my nose to shield my identity. Leo did the same.

The two men ran down the never ending alleyway as Leo and I trailed behind them at a safe distance. My boots tapped softly on the black concrete below. The streets were covered in puddles that splashed onto my leather pants. It must have rained earlier today because the air still had that familiar scent.

Our targets turned a corner and dashed off onto a side road between tall buildings. All of the windows above were shut with the lights out.

Leo and I were right on their tails. We both turned into a large parking garage, but when we entered the building, the two men had suddenly multiplied into a group. The two of us stopped dead in our tracks and stared at the large group of men and women that began circling us in the nearly empty parking garage. Leo and I were now back to back with our fists held in the air. "I think they knew we were coming," Leo spoke up.

"No shit, genius!" I remarked.

"Is it too late to run back to the car?" Leo asked. He was trying hard not to laugh at his own antics. I gave him points for only cracking a smile.

"Probably," I replied.

"I was hoping it didn't have to come to this," Leo sighed. "Nose goes!" He dropped to his knees suddenly and pressed his index finger onto his nose.

My eyebrows furrowed as I glanced over my shoulder to look at him with a confused expression. "What the hell are you doing?" I asked, a little too harshly.

Leo looked at me and did a half shrug with his finger still on his nose. "Ya know," he trailed off.

I shook my head. Has he gone mad? "No.. I don't," I remarked.

"Well, I shouted, 'nose goes,' which—in this case—means you can take the first few guys on, while I wait a few minutes to prepare myself," Leo explained. I gave him an 'are you serious right now' look that he replied with a nod.

"You're ridiculous," I huffed. Leo shrugged in agreement, making me roll my eyes. "Fine. You get five minutes."

"Fifteen!" Leo bargained.

"Five."

"Ten!"

"Five."

"Five?"

"Deal."

Leo and I immediately split up. He ran off down the parking garage, probably to find someplace to hide while he waited for his five minutes to end. I almost couldn't believe that we had just argued in front of all of these people who are about to attack us. Their looks of utter confusion were priceless though.

I darted in the opposite direction as Leo. My legs ran as fast as they could. I was trying to put some distance between myself and the men and women, who were chasing after me. I figured that if I could scatter their group, then I would have a better chance of fighting them while they were separated rather than altogether.

I phased through a navy blue minivan that was parked in the garage. Once I was on the other side, I dropped to the floor and rolled under the vehicle. My heart was beating fast from the sudden adrenaline rush. I had to hold my breath so my breathing wouldn't be too loud.

While I was hiding under the minivan, I heard a few footsteps approaching. "Anyone got eyes on the girl?" A woman spoke up. A chorus of 'no's' sounded from the wandering group. "Alright, split up and a find her." I watched as everyone's feet moved elsewhere.

"I'm telling you, I saw her run through the car," a man said suddenly. "It was like she just went right through it and disappeared on the other side!"

"That's impossible," the woman sighed. I smirked at the thought. "She's just a kid. Both of them are. We already outsmarted them once. How hard can it be to do it again?"

The man and woman went their separate ways, but remained in close proximity of other and myself. I watched as a pair of hunting boots walked in front of the minivan I was hiding under. The person walked over to the right side and then stopped. I assumed it was the man based off of his build and his previous suspicions.

I slowly reached down to pull my knife out of the holder on my belt. The weapon was sharp and shined from the lights in the garage. I held it firmly in my hands as I shuffled over to the edge of the car. Then, I stabbed the knife into the man's legs several times. He let out an ear piercing scream and dropped to the floor as his legs began to leak blood. I cringed at my own actions. The thought of it happening to me was painful, which made me feel bad for doing it to another human being.

As I stood up from my previous position on the floor, I phased through the car and stood beside the screaming man. His shouts were attracting too much unwanted attention. I had to act quick, but before I could do anything the woman who was talking earlier ran over. She glanced at the man on the floor and then glared at me. My eyes widened at her sudden fit of rage. Without another thought, the woman darted towards me at full speed. I was about to just let her phase through me and then attack, but when she ran into me my intangible energy halted. I looked down at my hands and saw that they weren't my own. When I turned towards the car, I could see the woman's reflection in the window instead of my own. I gasped sharply and jumped back with my hand over my heart.

"Tonya! What happened?"

My head turned towards the two people approaching. There were two women with concerned expressions. I glanced between them and the body on the floor now. "It was the girl! She stabbed him!" I tried my best to sound surprised but I wasn't that great of an actress.

"Why are you holding the knife though?" One of the women asked. She pointed towards the bloody dagger in my hands.

I glanced down at it "Huh.. Good point," I replied. I took a step forward and phased out of Tonya's body. The woman collapsed onto the ground. She must've fell unconscious during the time I took over her body, which was probably one of the strangest experiences I've ever been through with my powers. I had no idea that I could do that, but it would definitely come in handy.

The two older women in front of me gasped in disbelief. One of them dropped the lead pipe that she was holding in her hand. It crashed onto the floor and echoed in the parking garage. Both of them screamed and then ran away from me as fast as they could. My fists dropped as I watched the two move away in fear. "Oh, come on guys!" I shouted after them. I shook my head as I began jogging after them. "You're only making this harder for yourselves!"

As I was running, Leo suddenly appeared by my side. He ran up from behind me and started following me as if nothing had happened. "Where have you been?" I asked him.

"Well, I was chilling inside some unlocked car for five minutes. Then, I started wandering around looking for you and the targets," Leo explained. I was surprised that he actually abided by our deal. "I heard screaming though. Everything okay?"

I hummed in response. "I stabbed a guy," I said casually.

Leo nodded. "How pleasant."

"I also phased through this woman and took control of her body. It was weird," I added. Leo sent me a concerned look. "I think its safe to say that I scared off a few people."

"Huh, yeah probably a safe bet," Leo chuckled.

The two of us finally caught up with the two women who had been running away from me, only this time they seemed to reunite with the entire group, along with our original two targets. Leo and I were largely outnumbered. Since our powers were relatively new, I worried that they would have an advantage over us in terms of weapons as well. Luckily, the two of us still had energy and our physical training.

"You take right! I got left," Leo ordered. I nodded curtly and dashed towards the side opposite of him.

My fist immediately collided with a man's face, knocking him out cold. His body collapsed on the floor, most likely leaving him with a pretty bad concussion. I received a kick into the back of my knees, making me stumble to the ground. I stood back up again because once you're knocked to the floor, then you've basically already lost. The same woman that had kicked in my knees from behind me attempted to swing a right hook into my face, but I dodged it by bending backwards. As my head was tilted back, my eyes stared up at her fist as it nearly missed my face. In instances like this, I felt like I was moving in slow motion.

When I stood back up to my full height, I grabbed the woman's shoulders and pushed her face directly into my knee. Her nose made a crunchy noise that made me cringe. The woman's hands shot up to hold her own nose, which had started to bleed. As she wandered away in pain and defeat, I readied myself for the next opponent.

Before I could attack anyone else—or vice versa—I heard a loud engine begin to echo throughout the parking garage. Out of nowhere, two small cars that were identical to the one Leo and I drove to here raced down the lot. I quickly stepped out of the way as one whizzed by me, hitting the two men in front of me and sending them flying into the cement walls. The other car hit a person over by Leo, who was using his fire abilities to burn almost all of his opponents.

When the two black cars came to a screeching halt, the doors swung up and Henry, Bree, and Zara stepped out, each of them in the matching uniforms Leo and I were wearing. I smiled when I saw my friends, especially Bree. We all walked over to each other with excitement.

Bree pulled me in for a hug, which I happily returned. "What're you guys doing here?" I asked, glancing at the three of them.

"We were told you guys needed some backup," Henry answered. "Silas told us that the targets knew you were coming. He sent us so you guys weren't too outnumbered."

"How'd he know that?" Leo asked.

Bree shrugged nonchalantly. "Before he left, he said something along the lines of 'I'm always watching', which was kind of creepy." I raised my brows and nodded slowly in agreement. The Order had eyes everyone. I was never able to figure out how.

The five of us began walking alongside each other up the ramp to the next floor of the parking garage. Since the group we were fighting had split up before, it was likely that we were find them altogether now somewhere in this building.

Zara elbowed me shoulder softly. "Hey, Ghostwalker," she said humorously.

"Hey," I said with a smile. My eyes did a once over of our group again before noticing that we were missing someone. "Where's Asher?"

Zara shrugged. "Not sure. No one could find him when Silas called our Section for the mission."

"Oh," I replied. "Weird." I wondered where Asher could have been. Everything that was happening now was all new to me because none of this had happened to the original past. Nonetheless, the five of us continued walking throughout the parking garage in search for our group of targets.

My boot collided with the jaw of a woman's face. She fell to the ground and grasped her mouth in pain. Then, the woman spit out a bloody tooth. My eyes went wide as my own hand covered my mouth. "Oh, wow," I exclaimed. "I'm actually kind of sorry about that."

The woman shrugged. "It's okay." I smiled slightly until she kicked my feet out from underneath me. I fell backwards onto the ground. When I landed on the cement, I got the wind knocked out of me.

I groaned in pain. "Cold," I gritted through clenched teeth. The woman smirked and placed her boot on my neck, until I phased her leg right through me and into the ground.

When I finally stood up, she was molded into the cement now. The woman desperately tried to pull her leg out of the ground but she was completely stuck. "Cold," she remarked. I chuckled softly as I turned my back from her and got ready for the next attack.

In the distance, I saw Zara struggling to fight against the four enemies that were on her. She was becoming too overwhelmed by the numbers. Luckily, Leo noticed that and jumped in to her aid. He shot fire out of his fists, scorching their faces and nearly burning Zara as well. The Asian girl shot him a glare. "Alright, quit showing off, Sifu Hotman," Zara remarked. "I had that under control."

"Didn't look like that to me!" Leo chuckled. Him and Zara were now back-to-back, fighting off more men and women who were approaching.

"Oh, guys, guess what?" Henry exclaimed. He ducked from a kick that was coming his way. "I've finally figured out my ability! Check this out!" Henry jumped over a man's leg as he avoided another attempt to knock him off his feet. Then, Henry pulled out a pistol from his belt and shot it behind him. The bullet flew into the air, striking nothing.

Leo clapped his hands together. "Good job, buddy, you can shoot a gun!"

"Wait for it," Henry trailed off. All of a sudden, the sound of the bullet whizzed past my ear as it went right through the man that was attacking Henry. The bullet landed right in the back of his shoulder, making him begin to bleed instantly. Henry jumped in excitement as he exclaimed, "Sharpshooting!"

"Wow congrats, Hen," Leo commented. He rolled his eyes at his friend. I just smiled breathed a soft laugh. I was happy for him and his excitement.

In the distance, I saw Bree fighting another woman. She was dodging almost every attack sent her way, but I could tell that she was becoming tired, which meant she would slip up eventually. I quickly ran over to her side and helped her take down her opponent. Bree was breathing heavily. She placed her hands on her knees to catch her breath. "Thanks.. Alexa."

I nodded. "You know you can use your powers, right?"

"I know," she replied. Her breathing was still shaky. "I don't want to hurt anyone though." I offered her a kind smile. I had already known that.

"I think that's the last of them," Henry spoke up. I paused and glanced around the parking garage to see a group of men and women either unconscious, dead, or severely injured.

"Anyone have eyes on our original targets?" I asked.

Leo pointed to two men who were laying on the ground with charred off faces. "I think that's them," he said. Leo thought for a moment before pointing to two other men. "Or maybe that's them.. I don't know. I lost track of who is who when I was burning off their faces." I cringed at that thought.

"Great, let's get the hell out of here then," Zara said. "I don't know about you guys but I'm starving. Maybe we can sneak into the cafeteria."

I smirked as the five of us began walking back down to the ground level of the parking garage. "I got us covered."
