David had few things in his life he cared deeply about.

Work.

His cat.

His gummy bears.

He was very possessive of the few comforts he had.

Someone had taken his gummy bears.

At first he suspected his cat Lacy, but she was still asleep and the gummy bears had been in the cupboard. So why was the bag not only open, but devoid of the succulent sweets that he held dear?

He sighed and closed the cupboard. Much to his chagrin David knew he would have to discover that after work. He grabbed a tie and was comparing an excellent emerald one to a vibrant violet one when he saw it. Like a drop of amber a topaz gummy bear hung from the violet tie.

He looked at his silver tabby Lacy, who yawned lazily. This was...disturbing.

He picked the emerald tie and moved on. He lived in solitude with his feline companion for a reason. So what was going on here? He picked up his watch and stared, hidden beneath where the watch had lain was a ruby gummy bear.

Something was really wrong here.

He put on his watch slowly, peeking into the bathroom and finding a jade gummy bear staring at him from the sink counter like it was stalking him. David's blue eyes watched as he walked down the hall back to the kitchen. Nothing seemed particularly peculiar here.

Then he saw it. A gummy bear hanging from the kitchen light.

The display on the table caught his eye, at his normal place was an array of gummy bears. Spelling:

'Hello'

David's expression turned sour and he whirled around yanking open the basement door.

"Watson!"

A laugh bubbled up from the basement as a man melted out from the shadows, in his pale fingers gummy bears that he ate elegantly.

"Took you long enough."

"What do you want?"

The man smiled fangs flashing like polaris in the evening sky, dark hair falling in his vermillion eyes. "I have a job for you, David."
