CHAPTER XII. - DANGEROUS FAMILY TIES

That's impossible – resonated throughout the Magnus hall. Professor Coldos was strongly against this result of the testing for some reason while other council members and Principals tried to calm him and the whole situation down. It scared me a little bit. Was this morrigan thing something bad? Will they try to kill me or something? My hands started to tremble and I didn't know what to think. Then somebody placed their hand on my shoulder, gently stroking up and down my arm. It warmed me and made me feel secure. I turned to see who it was and it's the lady inspector, Ms. Do'or. As our gazes met, she smiled at me and then hugged me from the side. My body felt heavy, my head falling on her shoulder allowing me to rest for a bit. As I stared down, my eyes caught a glimpse of a blue shimmer. It was coming out of the wedding band on the hand of Ms. Do'or. Her presence and the light made me feel like I was at home, at peace. The sound of council arguing in the distance was muffled because I started to zone out, completely bewitched by the blue light emitting from the ring. I felt the hold on me loosen up which brought my thoughts back into the room and I started to listen in on the conversation.

Professor Coldos: It is impossible judging by her age, she wouldn't have survived.

Professor Minertha: How do you explain the test results then?

Professor Coldos: Something must have gone wrong. This has to be a mistake.

Professor Irasil: We checked, Coldos, prepared new reagents even. You saw the results.

Dead? I should have been dead? Is that why they got rid of me and left me to die in the snow? Even though I got to terms with being abandoned, this new information stabbed me like a sword through my chest. My parents left me because I was meant to die anyway? My mind wasn't in a good place and I started to panic. The arguing continued but slowly stopped after they got interrupted by the flickering lights and a slight earthquake that made the whole place tremble. I looked around to see what's suddenly happening and I saw Principal Haydos wave his hands in the air and trying to stabilize the bookshelves. Professor Minertha on the other hand used her power to scan the room. Her glowing purple eyes met with mine as she discovered traces of magic flowing around the room with me as the main source. She disclosed this to the council and then they hastily walked up to me only to be stopped by Ms. Do'or showing her hand into their faces.

Ms. Do'or: Now. Let us not lose our heads over this.

Professor Coldos: Are you really saying that while all of us, including the whole school, are in imminent danger?

Ms. Do'or: Don't be so dramatic, Coldos. I would never lie about a serious thing like this.

Professor Minertha: How can you be sure when all of us saw the result of the blood test?

Ms. Do'or: That's exactly my point. it again.

Everyone in the room quickly walked to the table with the blood test and after they saw what happened to it, they looked at each other with relieved expressions. Principal Idarin left the group and let the countil discuss the results, then walked up to me. He held the sides of my shoulders with both his hands and asked me to join the teachers at the table. They asked me to do the blood test again. I was a little bit hesitant about it at first, especially because my fingers already hurt a lot, but one gaze upon Ms. Do'or, and her smile reassured me. Preparing new Petri dishes for the test, they pricked my finger once again. It turned all purple, bruised from all the needle stabs. Leaving a few drops of my blood on the glass I wondered, why they made this decision to re-do the test again? What difference it's going to make anyway? But then I glanced over to the previous tests they kept on the side, besides the first destroyed one and the green color started to disappear from the my blood, slowly turning back to red. After they had enough drops, Principal Idarin was the one whopoured the reagents this time and did the test himself. One blood turned blue. After he poured the second reagent, it started turning green but I could see a ray of a blue shimmer and then it remained red. Finishing up the test, they told Young to take me back to my dorm to rest, regain my strength and that they will explain everything later. I was so tired mentally that I only nodded and agreed, bowing slightly to the people present, and then left the Magnus with Young. I turned back once more and saw the council discussing things while Ms. Do'or looked up from the blood test and turned her head slightly in my direction. When she saw me looking, she only smiled and then returned her attention to the discussion.

Walking with Young through the corridors of the school I felt out of place, making all of my steps basically on autopilot and didn't say a word. Young saw everything that happened in the Magnus hall so he understood why I was so quiet. We arrived at the Ossilor dorms and stopped for a second in front of my room. Too many thoughts running through my head right now, I just wanted to crash on my bed, sleep, and wake up from this only to be a bad dream, but at the same time, I was craving some answers.

Me: Young. Do you know what that 'morrigan' thing is?

Young: No idea. Never heard of it. But must be something big.

Me: Professor Coldos looked really angry.

Young: Doesn't he always?

That sentence made me laugh a little bit and finally, the mood was brighter. I swear, I could hear Young chuckle too but he tried to cover it and went back to his poker face quickly, pretending like he didn't. He assured me that Principal Idarin is going to explain everything. I trusted him and I trusted the Principal. My head felt so heavy I wouldn't be able to process anything right now, so I guess it was a good call to let me go back to my room. Getting inside the dorm room, I expected the girls to run out at me and ask me questions but instead, they grouped around me, hugged me, then told me to get some rest and that we can talk about it tomorrow. Skylar and Solya offered to sleep in the living room and give me some space. I told them not to be silly and they don't need to worry about it but they were already moving their pillows and blankets, putting them down on the couches and telling me that they don't want to disturb me. I couldn't thank them enough for being so considerate of me. I tried to move their stuff back to the room but they grabbed me and pushed me into the room, telling me to go to sleep. I got to my bed and thought that all of the new questions revealed by the tests will not let me sleep peacefully this night, but as soon as I felt the soft sheets under my body, I crashed and was out cold as stone.

Tuesday morning was here, the sun shining through the window and the warmth of it hitting my body. But it still didn't wake me up. I was currently dreaming about the blue light again. Haven't had this dream in a while. After coming to the academy, the dream became more and more clear, revealing new things.

Woman's voice: You....resent.....later but......for......own good. Take....of her, Woreus.

Male's voice: Don't worry, Evie.

Woreus. That name again. Where did I hear that name? I focused on the scene playing in my head and see two shadows talking to each other, the female one handing something over to the male. Then he started walking through the bright blue light as the woman's shadow was standing still, her silhouette getting smaller and slowly disappearing. Suddenly, I shivered from the cold that surrounded me. It was coming from the dream but it felt so real. Luckily, I got woken up by someone slightly shaking me. Lazily opening my eyes I see Skylar sitting on my bed, her hand laying on my shoulder and a soft but concerned smile on her face. I sit up and ask what's going on. She explained that I was excused from my classes today and that Professor Hale was waiting to accompany me to the Principal's office for an explanation of the test results. I thanked Skylar for waking me up and got dressed to meet with Professor Hale. I tried to do it as quickly as possible so that he is not waiting for too long. I didn't bother with my clothes much. I only picked a pink cotton long-sleeve shirt and paired it with light blue jeans. I quickly brushed my teeth at least, skipping any make up and just ruffled through my hair then ran out of my room leaving without a cloak. The girls were already up, sitting around the living room in their pyjamas and drinking coffee. They tried to stop me and make me eat something small for breakfast but I wanted to get this over with.

I said goodbye to my roommates who were standing in the hallway while I was putting on my white sneakers.. I gave them a weak smile to reassure them that I was ok and then left. Professor Hale was leaning against the wall in front of our dorm room which made me jump a little bit after I opened the door since I didn't expect him to be there. I told him I am sorry for taking so long but he only said that I don't need to apologize and then started to walk away. I joined him but walked a few steps behind. Each time he slowed down a little bit to be on the same level as me but after that incident with the demigod girl, I didn't want to be seen being "too friendly" with him, so I tried to get behind his big body.

Professor Hale: Are you feeling okay?

Me: Hmm? Ah, yes. I had a good night's sleep.

Professor Hale: Does it really bother you that much?

Me: What do you mean?

Professor Hale: Saxa.

Me: What is that?

He chuckled and then explained that it is the name of the demigod girl but continued to walk and didn't talk about it anymore. I could hear the people who were walking or standing in the corridors whispering something. I looked down at my feet while trying to keep up with Professor Hale. Then the talking stopped abruptly which was weird so I looked up. The students were looking in our direction but it seemed like they didn't see us at all. Then my gaze fell upon Professor Hale who was walking with his hands in his pockets, head up and he remained looking straight in front of him. I started checking our surroundings which made me stumble with my steps and almost lose my balance but Professor Hale grabbed my arm, preventing me from falling. His face so close to mine, I noticed his eyes are shining in a blood red color but they became his natural green again. The people started staring and talking about us again but then Professor Hale quickly released my arm and his eyes glowed red again. We became like invisible to the people around once more and then Professor Hale turned around to continue our way to the Principal's office. Is this his power? Was he doing this because of me? Because I felt uncomfortable to be seen with him?

After walking through the whole school, we finally arrived in front of the Principal's office. Professor Hale knocked on the door and I could hear Principal Idarin's voice telling us to come in. I opened the door and looked at Professor Hale as I passed him on my way to the office. His eyes were still glowing red but as soon as I got inside, they turned back to normal. I smiled at him and mouthed thank you. He only nodded his head and then I walked inside. Wanting to close the door, I hear Principal Idarin, telling me to wait and let Professor Hale join us. Principal Idarin asked me if I don't mind another person hearing about this but he wanted Professor Hale to be present because his abilities might be useful. We both enter the office, and greet the Principals with council members already seated inside the office. One chair was ready for me and they told me to sit down. With no other chairs available for Professor Hale to sit on, he remained next to the door, crossed his arms in front of his chest, and leaned against the wall. I took a deep breath and then prepared myself for the explanation of my test results.

Principal Idarin: Thank you, miss Holland, for joining us. I hope you had a good rest and please do not be alarmed, we will explain everything to you.

Me: Is there something wrong with me? You said I am something called a morrigan. Is that a bad thing?

Principal Idarin: You are completely fine, miss Holland. If you were such thing, it would be a little bit dangerous but based on what we know about Morrigans, there is no way you are one of them. Professor Minertha, if you could explain please?

Professor Minertha: As you know, there are special terms to call certain descendants based on their lineage. Half magicians or half gods have their own names but these two have been always separate groups. At least until some of them fell in love and got together. The name for these descendants is Morrigan. Having both halves magical but from different lineages gave these children immense power. Power so great and destructive, their bodies couldn't hold it and it was released out of their bodies. Destroying everything around them, killing people, including themselves.

Me: I- I would never do that!

Professor Minertha: No sweetie, we know you would never. But no one was meant to hold that much power and nobody is made to withstand it. Morrigans could not control this power and it went berserk against their will. That is why it was forbidden since then to have morrigan children and why our school is divided by the barrier. Even just by combining too many magicians and demigods in the same area could create this effect. Not in the same strength as a Morrigan but destructive nevertheless.

Me: Will that happen to me too? My powers are starting to be unstable more and more and-

Principal Idarin: No, it won't.

Me: But after the test results you said that I am this morrigan thing.

Professor Irasil: Yes. That was the primary result of the test so we thought you are, even though it is impossible judging by your age. Morrigans never lived longer than eight years since their birth.

Woman's voice: Also, the test results were done under one condition we haven't known existed until now.

I hear a familiar voice joining the explaination of my test results. I turn around to see Ms. Do'or standing in the opened door. She turned her head in the direction of Professor Hale who was standing on her left side, slightly nodded at him and he nodded back. Then she walked in to join us. At first, there were no other chairs, but she reached to this wooden bowl decoration lying on Principal's table. It was full of marbles filled with solid color, rainbow playing inside them or metallic ones. Ms. Do'or picked out two silver ones, making the others shift and ding against each other. Is she going to play with it or is it just a stress reliever?! But to my surprise, she held them in an open palm of her right hand and then circled with her flat left palm few times above those two marbles, creating a little zaps of electricity around them and then the metallic marbles started to float in the air. Is this a demonstration of my power? I was wrong once again, because Ms. Do'or started to fold her fingers, joining her hands together and continued to fold or extend, bending her pinkies and index fingers. The marbles started to gurgle and change their shape. From a perfect circle they turned into something you would see in an alien movie, and then expand until they thinned out to a chair shape in the air. Then those chairs slowly descended on the ground, finalizing their shape and hardening, making new chairs for her and Professor Hale to sit on. She put her chair right next to mine. Looking at me with a warm smile as she was sitting down, she places her hand on my legs and pats them a few times.

Ms. Do'or: Remember the magical energy drink you took before the testing?

Me: Yes. It tasted like sand.

Ms. Do'or: Heh. I know. Normally, during the manifestation tests, magicians are already so strong they don't need it. Since you are new to all of this, we had to give you a little kickstart to help your powers grow for a short period of time. Strong enough to send out a presence and reveal themselves in one of the testing objects. We always thought that they only help to boost the powers already within the person but after your tests, we also did the blood tests with the booster on us and we found out that they mimic a magician gene. After the test ended, I saw your blood turn from green to normal red color. When you left, we tried to test this theory on Professor Irasil's blood who volunteered since he is one of the demigods. He also took the booster and the result was the same as yours. His blood presented as a magician with one of the reagents but as the potion started losing its effect, the blood turned back to red.

Me: Does this mean...?

Principal Idarin: Yes. You are not a Morrigan. But unfortunately, you were misplaced to the Aveus academy. It has never happened before and we will continue to investigate this issue. Meanwhile, only if you agree, we would like to transfer you to the Umbras academy.

Me: For the demigods, right? Am I a god descendant then?

Principal Haydos: It would seem so. Based on what we saw during your fight with one of the Umbras students, miss Fendrick, and also during the testing, it looks like you possess the power of lightning, not electricity, even though it is easy to confuse those two. That makes you...

Me: Zeus? Zeus is my father?

Principal Idarin: You learn and adapt quickly. That could be an even greater power sometimes than lightning.

Principal Haydos: By the rules of our academy and your ancestry, you should be admitted to Umbras, but of course, we will give you time to think this through and let you decide.

Me: Thank you, for explaining everything to me, helping me understand what's happening to me, and helping me find out my origin. I can finally learn how to control my power. Since I am a demigod, it wouldn't be safe for me to stay at the Aveus. I will transfer academies. I guess this means my ban on interacting with demigods is lifted, huh?!

Principal Idarin: You are really a clever one. But you don't have to be scared to stay at Aveus.

Me: I am not scared of people or anything. But since I don't possess the power to cast spells, it would be a waste of time to attend magician classes. Umbras should be better place to teach me how to control this power. Besides, the powers flow of demigods mixed with magicians, wouldn't that be a problem?

Professor Minertha: Correct, Ms. Holland. It is saddening to see such brilliant student leave Aveus but at least you will learn correctly from other demigods. I wish you all luck in your studies.

Principal Idarin: You are always welcome to come and visit. But remember, the time of your stay shouldn't be over 10 hours. Since you have been living with other magicians for a longer period, we will have to check the consequences of this mistake but you don't have to worry about that.

Principal Haydos: Now, please follow Professor Hale and he will show you the way to the Umbras side and your dormitories.

My whole life was cursed because of the unexplainable things happening around me and now I finally know the reason behind it. Never would have guessed that it's because my father is a freaking Zeus?! At least, now it makes sense, why he couldn't stay and take care of me. I still don't know anything about my mother but now half of my search is over. At Umbras they should help me control my powers and then I can go looking for her so that she can explain this whole situation to me. I thanked the Principals, council, and Ms. Do'or for helping me find out what was wrong with me. As I was leaving the office, Professor Hale stood up from his chair and opened the door for me, then Principal Idarin stopped me.

Principal Idarin: Well, since your stay was already extended, I think a few more hours won't hurt.

He said while resting his chin on his hands, supporting his head and slightly nodding at me when I looked at him. I didn't understand what he meant so I only smiled and then left the office. Professor Hale joined me soon after and we left the floor. When we got to the general area I waited for him to show me the way but instead, he only told me to go back to my room for now. I was going to ask why but as soon as I opened my mouth he interrupted me and told me that it should be okay, that I can go and he will explain everything to me tomorrow in his office. I pressed my lips back together and confused I walk to the Ossilor dormitories. I got in front of my room and quietly opened the door in case one of the girls didn't have her classes yet and was still here. There was a dead silence in the whole room so I guess all of them left for their lessons. I sighed, lazily took of my shoes and then continued to walk through the hallway when I got jumpscared by all girls jumping out of their rooms and firing confetti. I held my arms close to my body because of the sudden loud noise, trying to figure out what was going on and then girls rushed to my side and hugged me, congratulating me.

Skylar: Never would have thought that you are a demigod.

Chanti: And not your casual one but a Zeus descendant?!

Me: Eheh...how do you know?

Kisha: We got informed while Principal Idarin and Professor Minertha checked us yesterday.

Crimen: Sorry we didn't tell you. But they told us to keep it a secret and prepare a little goodbye party for you.

Solya: Yes, to let your mind rest.

Me: Don't you have classes though?

Lucy: They excused us from all of the classes today.

Me: I see. Aren't you lucky to have me as a friend?

I joked but then looked down at my feet and felt a little bit sad about leaving them. Also realizing that I am a demigod now and the relationships between demigods and magicians aren't exactly so peachy. Will we stop hanging out, being friends? Even the girls from my class finally started talking to me. Will all of this end?

Skylar: Don't worry. This doesn't change anything between us. We are still going to be your friends.

Solya: That is if you want of course.

It's like they knew what I was thinking and hearing what they said lifted all of my worries for now and I laughed, and hugged the girls back. I finally found some people who are not judging me for who I am or what is happening around me and for sure I won't let them go.

Me: Sorry girls. I guess you are stuck with me as your friend. And thank you.

We hugged once more, so strongly, I could barely breathe. Then Solya grabbed my arm and dragged me to the small living room already prepared with big sitting pillows in a circle around different snacks. We plopped down and then talked until late evening, munching on chips, cookies or candies, drinking champaigne which I changed for just a plain coke after one glass. I didn't want to leave the girls at all and go meet completely new random people in the Umbras. I don't even know if I am "so famous" on the other half or not. Students in Aveus were really into the gossip stuff, making it feel like a high school all over again. But the night was closing in and we had to go to sleep and take our classes tomorrow. Well, at least girls have to. I have no idea what schedule is awaiting me at Umbras. I promised not to become a stranger, that I will keep messaging them and visit the girls from time to time during lunches. Luckily, they allow a certain amount of demigods to cross the barrier and eat in Aveus cafeteria. Apparently, the food in demigod canteen is better but more expensive so some of them come to eat in Aveus. And it helped me back then because I could meet up with Reilly. The demigods don't really want to mingle with magicians but I kinda understand why they still crossed and decided to eat at Aveus. Demigods or not, some came from poor families where they only had one parent and a few close family members. Not some really fancy background with a lot of money. At the beginning of the school, they provided me with a small allowance to buy lunches. I still had my savings but I really don't want to touch those unless necessary. Girls had their families wire them money to their cards but I had no one. They should really think of letting us work or something, to earn money or I might go broke, then starve before the next year comes and all of my promised lunches with the girls will be gone too. I didn't say anything about the money situation to the girls but I still promised to visit every day for a lunch at least. To gossip about how the Umbras side looks like and if they have any handsome boys over there, as Skylar and Kisha instructed me. I wasn't sure if they knew about the dating situation between the two sides or not but I didn't want to sadden them so I said I will try to look around. After it got pretty late and my throat was hurting so bad from all the talking, we say goodnight to each other and then me, Skylar and Solya go to our room.

Waking up the next morning, I heard the girls were already stomping around the room, getting ready for their classes while I had to go see Professor Hale about my transfer. I groan and then something heavy falls on me. It's Skylar who jumped on my bed and literally on my body, crushing me. I try to break out but she grabs me like a koala and wiggles. We start to laugh and then she finally lets me go. Standing up, she extends her arm so that I could grab it. Lifting me from the bed, she smiles at me, and then leaves to get her bag. Tossing it on her shoulder she jokingly flips her hair and winks at me. Solya takes her stuff too and they both leave the room. I laugh at their behavior and then went to get ready. I took a nice hot shower that relaxed my tensed body a little bit. Reluctantly I got out of the shower and tied a big white towel around my body while I stood in front of the big bathroom mirror to blow dry my hair. I didn't want to take too much time and let Professor Hale wait for me just in case he has to teach today so I quickly went to dress myself. Or that was my plan at first but in these past few days I had no time to do my laundry. After I moved to the Ossilor dorm, the girls taught me this cleaning spell but I refused to use it on my clothes. I wanted to stay a little bit normal and do it like a human being so they showed me a common laudromat room which I been using since. But it totally slipped my mind and now all of my clothes were used, tossed on a pile over my chair or in the cupboard. The only thing that was fresh was this light blue long dress I bought when I was on the trip with the girls. I had no choice but to wear those and combine it with a thing white button sweater on top. Then I matched my make up with the dress. I used a light blue eyeshadow, did quick thin eyeliner and put mascara on top. I defined my eyebrows more and then used peach lipstick to finish up the look.

After getting ready, I packed basic stuff like phone or wallet into my backpack. Taking a deep breath I look around the room for the last time and then I went to meet with Professor Hale. Walking through the school halls was easy because it was mostly empty since everyone was attending their classes. Arriving in front of the office, I looked around and saw that the walls got repaired. You couldn't even tell that it was destroyed. That was fast. I was going to knock on the door but then I hear Professor Hale's voice telling me to go in. Did he read my mind and knew I was already here or what? I roll my eyes and then opened the door, revealing Professor Hale adjusting books on the shelves and putting the ones he used back.

Me: Good morning, Professor Hale.

Professor Hale: Morning. Welcome. You can sit down and I will be with you soon. And please, call me Killian.

Me: Isn't that a little bit too personal for a teacher?

Professor Hale: It is. But since I am young, I think everyone calls me by my name.

Me: Those are private times. It's completely different.

Professor Hale: Some people call me by my name even in public spaces when they see me.

Me: You mean those girls who thirst over you?

Professor Hale: Heh. I wouldn't call it like that but I guess, yes.

He chuckled while he was still cleaning the books and the only thing I could see is his broad back dressed in a white shirt with a black vest on top, his usual outfit. The small and thin belt on the vest pulled it together and made the vest copy his slim waist even more. He puts back the last book and then he finally turns around to face me. He walks to the couches and sits on the one in front of me, the same as he did the first time I was here.

Professor Hale: Because of all the trouble that seems to follow you for some reason, I was assigned to you as "a help" while transferring to Umbras Academy.

Me: My help?

Professor Hale: Yes. Since this is the first time misplacement has happened at the school, Principals still want to keep a close eye on you. Don't worry. I will be only serving as your guide. Anytime you have any questions, you can come to me and ask me.

Me: So I am getting a babysitter.

Professor Hale: It's not that the Principals are worried about the safety around you, but if anything were to happen, I will be there to prevent it. Also, the school values you even more now. They are worried about your safety too.

Me: Why is that?

Professor Hale: You are the second living Zeus descendant currently in this school and in the whole world.

Me: Second? There are only two of us?

Professor Hale: Yes. The first one is Saxa Fendrick, the girl you fought in front of my office.

Me: Great. I am a unicorn and the only person with whom can I share my troubles is someone who hates me for no reason.

Professor Hale: There are no other descendants of Zeus who would be able to guide you. Since my powers should be able to help you a little bit they assigned me to you. Especially because of that weird block that's in your memory.

Me: Thank you, Professor Hale.

Professor Hale: It's fine. And please, call me Killian. We will be spending more time together now.

Me: I think I will keep using Professor Hale. And what about a memory block?

Professor Hale: We can discuss that later. Now we should get going and cross to Umbras.

Me: I need to go pack my stuff.

Professor Hale: Don't worry about it. All clothes, textbooks and necessities will get transferred to your new dorm.

So finding out about my father and where my power comes from wasn't everything and there are still some unexplained things about me. But I will worry about that later. Now, I have to move to the Umbras dormitories and if my calculations are correct, I might end up being a roomie with that Saxa girl. Great!

Professor Hale stands up from the couch and then signals me with his arm to leave the office. I got up also and then we both leave to cross the academies. We walk through the school until we arrived in front of this big wooden door. The whole corridor was blocked by the door that was shining with a blue light. I guess this is where we cross the barrier. Professor Hale walked up to the door and opened them, revealing the other side of the hall. You could see the hall continue but with a slight blue tint. He turns around to face me and explains that this is where the teacher's doorway and I won't be able to use it anymore, just for this one time and then asks me if I am ready. I nod and we start to move through the door. I enter the barrier and it starts to tickle my skin, prick it with small electricity kicks. At first, I felt a little discomfort but then I got used to it. Soon after, we got outside of the barrier and we were at the Umbras Academy side. It almost looked identical to the Aveus half but the colors were much lighter. Instead of burgundy brown wood, the walls were made of white marble, decorated with golden ornaments. For some reason, the mood here felt different. It felt like I was suddenly in heaven, in some castle that's floating between the clouds. I followed Professor Hale until we got to the main staircase. When you looked down from our position, you could see other students walking through the halls and on the stairs. No one was really paying attention to us, they were either running to their classes or playing in the halls with their powers. We went up on the staircase which felt so infinite I could barely catch my breath after we finally stopped at the highest floor. We passed many floors with a bustling atmosphere, and people running around. But this one was so quiet. There was no one. It felt weird.

Professor Hale: Aveus has a dormitory system split by the houses and essentially by manifestations. Here at Umbras, the dorm is designated by your god ancestor.

Me: Great. That means...

Girl voice: What is she doing here?

I got interrupted by someone. I turn around to see that demigod girl. Her light blond hair was curled into big waves that dropped down to the half of her back and one strand was pushed to the front over her right shoulder. Her eyes were in the shades of a dusk sky, playing with blue and purple color. She was pale but there was a pinkish tint in her skin. With a full glam make up and dressed in tight white dress, she stood so mighty in her 8 inch heels white stilettos in front of us with her arms crossed, her long sharp nails digging into the fabric of her sleeves on her upper arms and she had an annoyed expression on her face. What was her name again?

Professor Hale: Good morning, Ms. Fendrick.

Saxa: Hi, Killian. So? What is the meaning of this?

Professor Hale: Kaitlin will be joining Umbras Academy and the Zeus dormitories since today.

Saxa: WHAT? IS THIS A JOKE?

Professor Hale: I assure you, it is not. There were some complications with her assignment but that is school business, not yours. Principal Haydos will meet with you soon and inform you about these changes.

Saxa: Why can't you do it?

Professor Hale: I am here to make sure Kaitlin settles in the dormitory.

She only wiggled like a little girl while trying to flirt with Professor Hale but then scoffs after he stops her. I snorted which alerted her and she gave me "the look" – squinting with her eyes, pressing her lips up, making a funny face, and then she rolled her eyes. She spun on the spot and then left to her room. Professor Hale continued to walk and I followed him, thinking we will go to her room but instead we walked further to a different one. He opened the door for me and told me that this will be my new room, handing me over the keys to the room. I raised my left eyebrow and looked at him not understanding why I am not sharing a room with her.

Professor Hale: There is only you and her as Zeus descendants, and since there are plenty of rooms, the Principals and council figured, based on your previous encounters, that you should have your own private room. Or would you like to share a room together with her?

Me: Not really. I am just used to presence of people and living alone just seems a bit quiet and lonely, that's all.

Professor Hale: Hmmm.

I enter the room and it is so spacious and for me only. I walked around the room and then heard a loud bang which made me jump. I looked for the source of the noise and saw my luggage appearing in the middle of the room. Well, at least I don't have to carry them by myself.

Professor Hale: Make yourself at home, unpack things, and then meet me outside in front of the gate. Let's say, in 3 hours? Is that enough time?

Me: I should be done quickly, since I don't have that many things anyway. And... I might settle on Mr. Hale, if that's okay?

Professor Hale only nods in agreement and then leaves me alone in my new room. While standing above my belongings I look around the room again. I sighed and then put my hands on my hips, looking down at my stuff and thinking about where to put my things but first I wanted to roam around and check the place. There was no separation into rooms and everything was essentially just one room besides the bathroom and a separate small space that was turned into a closet. That settles where I can unpack my stuff even though it felt so excessive with the little amount of clothes I had. This was more of a room for some rich kid rather then for someone like me. I left the white wooden door of the closet open and just dragged my bags inside, leaving it for me to unpack later. The room was so huge. There was an old crystal chandelier in the middle of the ceiling but it was turned off and the light that was illuminating my new room for now was coming from a big cirle window which was split into smaller pieces with golden metallic lines, creating some sort of mandala picture. Under the window there were two couches in Parisian blue color, with matching arm chair and three big sitting pillows on the ground next to them. A small glass table was standing in the middle of that sitting area. Besides that, other basic furniture was already there. Some white tables that were probably used as desks even though they looked much fancier that just for writing and doing my homework. A comfortable looking chair was slid under the table. A few shelves were nailed to the wall above the desk but there was no decor. I could ask Professor Nannieya to help me grow some plants and make this place feel livelier. The bed was also in shades of white but it was massive and sturdier than my previous bed. Too many pillows of different sized in shades of rose gold plopped on top of the bed like for some princess. But everything was in twos, mirroring on both sides. If you split the whole room in the middle and then laid each half on each other, it would match. Why would I need two beds and everything? But maybe the rooms were designed to share with someone, just that there is not many Zeus descendants to fill those rooms so they didn't bother with changing the furniture.

I took of my sweater and then walked to the pile of remaining stuff that got teleported into my room. I picked my books by smaller portions and brought them on the table, then organized them on the shelves and lowkey hoped they will hold the weight on my books and they won't fall down in the middle of the night and scare the hell out of me. My make up, shower gels or soaps, my tampons and all the hygienic stuff was put in a box. I took it with me to the bathroom and then placed them into this little organizer basket. My neck was starting to get all sweaty so I took one rubber and put my hair into bun slash ponytail because some strands fell out and I couldn't be bother to fix it. I tugged the loosened hair behind my ear and scanned the bathroom. It was around the same size as my previous one at the Ossilor dorm but with the difference that this one was only for me so it was technically bigger since I don't need to share it. It was all covered in dark grey tiles. There was a corner for showering but it also had a bath. I could already imagine myself spending hours in there, just enjoying hot bath while reading a book. But now there was no time to waste and I went to unpack last portion of my stuff, which were my clothes. I made my way back into the room and walked into the closet. I unzipped the duffel bag I received from Lucy and started taking out my unwashed clothes. I only hoped that they used some sort of magic to trace my stuff and not manually pack it because if someone saw this mess, I would be mortified until the day I die. Despite me trying to keep a little bit of something mundane in my life, I didn't have time to do my laundry and I needed to change out of this dress. I forgot the spell for cleaning clothes but luckily I wrote it down so I ran out of the closet to my desk and picked my spell book from the shelf, flashed through the pages until I found it and then memorized it. I went back to the pile of my disgusting clothes and then said the spell, cleaning all of them. I re-folded everything and placed in on one side of the shelves or drawers, leaving out black jeans and a black tight turtle neck with a light leather jacket to change into when go out, because it's getting a little bit chilly throughout the days.

Soon, I was done unpacking, I changed my clothes and then go plop down on my new bed. It was so fluffy and I almost disappeared between all of those pillows. I closed my eyes but then I remembered that I was supposed to meet Professor Hale in front of the Inyll gate and I didn't know how much time has passed with me unpacking my stuff. I quickly jump out of the bed, check the time on my phone and I saw that it's almost time. I grabbed the jacket, my new keys and took some money out of my wallet, stucking them into my jean pockets. I locked my room and then run down, trying to find the cafeteria first so that I can grab something to eat. Luckily the layout of the academies were mirroring each other and the cafeteria was on the same place as the one at Aveus, with the difference that it was a lot bigger, fancier and more freaking expensive. I didn't want to waste money on the food so I got only one croissant filled with strawberry jam and black tea, then sat down in that cafeteria that looked more like a hella expensive restaurant. I ate the food and then waited for my tea to cool down. I forgot to ask for am extra sugar but luckily they had small plates of salt, pepper, sugar and other spices spread on the tables. I added more sugar into my tea and then drank it. Cleaning my tray and then running to the academy entrance, I leave the building but on the Umbras side. I looked around to try and find Mr. Hale. I saw him in the distance standing with other people. I made my way to the group and when I got there, Mr. Hale was already waiting for me with the Principals and Ms. Do'or, standing behind the barrier on the Aveus side of the academy.

Ms. Do'or: Sorry to drag you out again but we would like to do one more test if you allow us.

Me: Sure. What am I supposed to do?

Ms. Do'or: It will be easy. The Principals will open the gate for you to get out and back. But before that, please wear this ring.

She hands me a male sized silver ring. It was so big I had to put it on my thumb so that it wouldn't slide down.. I wondered why would I need a ring or if it was a present but I didn't question it.

Mr. Hale: It connects you to me through your mind, allowing me to stay in touch with you telepathically outside of the academy's bounds. My power is stronger when I am touching someone rather than just channeling their thoughts through the air. The gate will disappear after you cross it and you could get lost, so I will try to navigate you to walk back to the academy grounds.

Me: Understood. But why this test?

Ms. Do'or: By testing you, we found out that you are a god descendant but despite that, the gate assigned you to the Aveus's side. We want to see if it was a one-time mistake or if there is something broken in the selective power of the Inyll gate.

I nodded, standing between the Principals and then I turned around, ready to walk through. The Principals lifted their arms straight in the air and their hands facing upwards. They used their powers and soon the Inyll gate soon appeared in front of me, opened itself and revealed the outside world. I crossed to the other side and then the gate closed behind me. I was back in the streets of New York. Cars honking, the air full of exhalates, and people walking to their jobs or home, meanwhile I stood like a statue on one spot and looked around. Then I snapped back and started to look for the way to the alley and the gate. I searched for the way but I couldn't tell which way to go. Then the ring on my finger sent out a signal, felt it getting warmer so I look at my hand and soon I could hear Mr. Hale talking to me in my mind. I followed his voice. It was getting stronger and stronger, to the point I was walking in that dark alley with trees and could see the Inyll guarded by Ityx. I pulled on the gate and opened it. I could see the AU Academy again and crossed the gate on the side with the dark brown half of the building. It was the Aveus half. The Principals looked at each other and then at Ms. Do'or. They talked about something and then asked me to do it a few more times. I agreed so I crossed in and out the Academy bounds but each time I arrived at the Aveus side. Ms. Do'or wrote something down in her little notebook she was holding and then the Principals decided to leave the further investigation to her. I was excused to leave and go rest before I get my new class schedule. I was walking away but after I passed the barrier to the Umbras side the ground started to shake which made me stop. I stumbled and spread my arms to not loose balance. I looked around and saw the barrier flickering and disappearing for a moment. Then it all stopped and everything went back to normal. My eyes travelled to meet with the faces of the Principals but they only nodded and signaled me to go to the school. I could see their worried expression though. It seemed like something is going on with not just the gate but the barrier too at the end and it wasn't a good sign. I walked through the whole yard, entered the school, and then walked up all those stairs again. I sighed when I finally got to my room. I was going to open the door but I heard dragging noises coming out of my dorm. Holding the door handle I try to open the door quietly to not alarm the person and tried to ninja my way inside. Is it a burglar if there even if such thing in here or is it Saxa trying to destroy my things? But as soon as I got in there, I found out it was none of those ideas I was thinking as I saw a familiar person running around the room and decorating.

„Hello, roomie."
