CHAPTER IX. - NEW FACES, NEW VIBES AND CHEERS TO NEW BEGINNINGS

Everyone was frozen in time, not breathing even and then Skylar was the first one to jump up from her seat and run towards me. She launched herself and went for a hug. It almost made me trip but I managed to stay standing. Everyone then congratulated me and they started to ask questions but I told them that I only found her full name and nothing else, and also I don't want this whole party to be focused on me. Skylar of course pouted as she was still glued to me like a koala but I promised to tell them everything I know.

The party went back to normal, Kisha blasted the music to a loud volume again and started dancing. Skylar immediately joined her which made me chuckle how silly it might look but they seem to really enjoy themselves, like they are the only ones in this whole world, so free. Solya tapped on my shoulder as she wiggled her hips and passed me with her arms up on her way to join the girls. I followed her moves as she kept dancing but pointing her index finger on me now, bending it upwards and calling me to dance. I started to shake my head and my hands that I am not a dancer but then Lucy started to hype me up and everyone around her joined too. I smiled and then decided that I should also enjoy myself so I started to step right to left, left to right in a small strides as I did waves with my upper body. Reilly saw me and she startled to whistle at my moves so I tried to step up my game. I tossed my arms up to the air and played with them in slow motion as I pressed my thighs together and then started to bend my knees. After I was close to the ground, I repeated the moves but upwards. Reilly whistled again and yelled she's crazy but I wanted to win this fight so I threw her a flirting expression and then seductively walked towards her. When I was close, I grabbed her wrist and pulled her up from the giant pillow. Reilly didn't protest and she joined me on the dancefloor which is essentially just a space the girls made in the living room.

I danced with Reilly for the most part but sometimes we joined other girls and danced in a group. I don't know how much time has passed and for how long I have been dancing but I am past any muscle pain or my knees giving out. We just all had so much fun but I wanted everyone to enjoy this party. Gan Fo has been very quiet and he was just sitting in the corner while drinking and not really participating to anything. Dancing might be too much to ask but I didn't want him to just be here like a doom and gloom while everyone else is having fun, so I looked around the room and tried to come up with something that we can all do. Some of the balloons were scattered around the floor and I almost tripped over one but it gave me an idea.

Me: Hey guys. Should we play volleyball with the balloons? We have enough people to split into two teams.

Kisha: Sounds fun, let's do it.

Crimen and Kisha used their powers to move some of the ribbons, splitting the room in half and creating a net out of them. Me, Reilly and Nima, we took small things that we could find which wouldn't get in a way and placed them around the room, creating a court.

Me: This should do it. Okay, who wants to be the captain and pick people for their team?

Gaia: I can sit this one out or be the referee.

"Everyone" can enjoy this, yeah Kaitlin, good idea. I totally forgot that Gaia is blind and it will be hard for her to play even with using her powers to connect to spirits and see through their eyes. I opened my mouth to apologize but Gaia only lifted her hand, facing her palm towards me and stopping me before I could say anything.

Chanti: I can sit this one out too then so that we have even numbers on the teams, five on five.

I tilted my head because I was confused by what Chanti means. We should definitely have full volleyball team number, which is six. I quickly scanned the room and counted people. Gan Fo still in the corner, Jess and Enko picking up which balloon we are going to use, Crimen and Kisha making the net, Solya is helping Reilly finish up placing the borders for the court, Chanti is braiding her long hair and Gaia is with Nima and Lucy sitting on the pillows, then me and that's everyone I counted in the room. We are missing Skylar and Nathan. Oh. But I wasn't mad about them disappearing from the dorm room, even though I didn't even notice when they slipped out. Good luck, Nathan.

Me: Chanti you play. I will sit out and maybe join Gaia as a referee.

Chanti: But you are the one who suggested this game. Don't you want to play it?

Me: Yeah, but that's okay. My body is still sore after the Overflow and I danced too much. My knees will definitely be glad if I take a break.

I sat right next to Gaia and watched everyone split into two teams. Reilly was a captain of one team, no surprise there, and then Lucy was the other one. They split up evenly and then positioned around the made-up court. We decided to ban powers and make it fair.

I stood up and walke to the fake net, lifted my arm and then yelled out start. Lucy's team had the ball, or the balloon in our case, and she threw it in the air as I started the game and then hit it with force to make it fly to the other side. It is harder with balloon since it's lighter and it flies weird but the game was going smoothly. We had time to also talk between each strikes or we laughed when someone was going to hit the balloon but there was a slight wind made by people moving and it change the balloon's trajectory, making the person slip or miss the balloon.

The games were even and we tried to just have fun. Even though sometimes they played hard, focused on scoring like this is a real match. After getting a good sweat, Reilly's team won at the end and everyone just went to drop on a pillow and get something to drink. Lucy and Reilly were panting the hardest because they took the game seriously towards the end and tried their best to score and win. It basically turned into a match just between those too. Reilly loves sports and working out, and Lucy mentioned once that she used to snowboard back in Norway so she must miss exercising too and I wasn't going to ruin their fun.

I drank I don't even know how much Cola so I was filled with enough sugar but for some reason I am starting to feel sleepy. Chanti turned down the music and changed it into slow ballad songs so that we can just chill and talk more. Everyone was spread on the pillows, drinking directly from bottles because they were too tired to go find and grab their cup, or they were stuffing themselves with chips and such. The atmosphere is a lot calmer than it was at the beginning. Lucy and Reilly are tired from the volleyballoon and Solya seems to be dozing off too. She must be tired because she has to keep up the soundproof shield this whole time. I got up, walked towards her and gently nudged her, telling her that she can take the shield down. Everyone is too tired to be dancing or talking loud so it's not needed anymore.

Me: You need to teach me this spell so that I can help you out in the future if you need to hold the shield for this long. I don't want you to Overflow too and I was very good with shields in Casting class.

Solya: Overload.

Me: What?

Solya: It's Overload. Overflow is when you store too much power and don't release it. Overload is when you channel too much or channel for too long.

Me: Ah, thanks. I am still learning about all this.

Solya: All good. And I will give you my notes. You can practice it when you have some privacy since people shouldn't see you casting spells. If you have any questions or have troubles to cast it, just let me know.

Solya lazily got up and told me to wait as she goes to grab something in her room, my old one. She came back soon after with a notebook and a pen. After she reclaimed her seat again, she leaned over to me, showing me the paper as she started to draw the shield spell and then write down some notes.

I kept paying attention to Solya as she is explaining where the spell differs in order to change the basic shield into a soundproof one and I really enjoyed it. Solya would definitely make a great teacher in the future. Wonder if she thought about pursuing that as her career after we graduate. We are going over a part that I didn't quite understand so I asked Solya to repeat it again but all of the air in my lungs got pushed out because someone suddenly jumped on me and pressed me into the pillow. I heard Kisha giggle and then ask what we are doing. I whispered to her that Solya is teaching me the shield spell. I put an index finger over my mouth to silence Kisha who was still very hype and flowing with energy, and I didn't want her to blurt out what we are doing since Gan Fo doesn't know about me still being able to use spells. He doesn't look like he is dumb and he would probably figure it out one way or another. I nudged my head towards him and then Kisha understood and probably remembered the blood oath we did too to protect my secret. Gan Fo did notice Kisha staring at him so she quickly masked why was she looking at him by starting a conversation with him.

Kisha: I heard you are another prodigy like our Kaitlin here and got placed into a house in your first year too. What's yours?

Gan Fo: Dorhan. Teleportation.

Kisha: Cool, cool. Wanna show us?

Gan Fo: Not really.

Kisha: Oh come on, don't be shy. Kaitlin can go first.

Me: Wait what, me?

Kisha: Yeah. You are a Zeus descendant, right? I have never seen any of the higher god descendants to use their powers and I've never had one for a friend until now. Pleeeease?

Kisha pleaded me to show off my powers. I am not against it entirely, but I am not sure if I will be able to keep control over the lightning. I might not be even able to use it since my energy got depleted by the Overflow but still, I am scared to use it and harm my friends. I told that to Kisha and she started to pout, throwing a puppy face at me. Solya offered to raise up a shield to protect everyone just in case I release the lightning by accident which made Kisha happy. She jumped up from the pillow and essentially from lying on me and started to clap like a little kid that got an early Christmas present. I shooked my head at Solya and told her she is not helping but she only whistled and pretended to act all innocent. I friendly punched her shoulder and then we started to laugh.

Kisha extended her arms to help me get up and then proceeded to yell around the whole room that I am going to do a lightning show. I rolled my eyes and chuckled but I started to feel a little bit of pressure. I remembered the scorch mark my lightning created in the combat grounds and this room is definitely around that size. I let out a breath through my mouth and Solya must have realized that I am nervous because she reassured me that it will be okay and already started to cast the shield around me. I lifted up my hands in front of my chest and stared at my palms. I have no idea how to connect to my source and call out my powers but maybe this will help me practice.

Nothing was happening and I was looking like an idiot just standing there in the middle of the room. What a great terrifying weapon I am. I scoffed and then let my arms fall down, hitting my sides. I apologized for a disappointing show and wanted to go sit down but I got surprised by Gan Fo who spoke up and tried to guide me.

Gan Fo: You are thinking too hard about it. It's very easy, like a call or imagining a picture inside your head. I don't know which style are you, but try that one of those. Either speak up inside your mind to call for the power or imagine you using it.

I think both theories worked for me in the past so I decided to use both of them. I closed my eyes and imagined the blue electricity dancing only around my arms and not growing more, then also talked with my head voice what I wanted my power to do. After I heard a familiar sound of electricity crackles, I lifted my hands again and looked at my arms. Surges of blue electricity zaps are dancing around my forearms and everyone present in the room just went woah, cool or that's dope. Pretty sure the last one came from Jess while Kisha said something in Japanese. I didn't want to risk losing control over this amount and let it grow into something deadly so I imagined myself again that I am not using powers this time and my head voice demanded the power to stop.

Gan Fo: That's interesting.

Me: What is?

Gan Fo: You said that you lack control over your powers but this presentation seemed like a perfection to me. The amount of power flow that went into it was full but it felt more like electricity and not a lightning.

Me: There is difference between that?

Gan Fo: In their nature not really. Lightning is basically an electrical current. But this power looked more like an electricity Manifestation and not a god power. You have more control over this than you might think. To lower the voltage of a lightning into a speck of its' power is amazing.

Kisha: Yeah, yeah, Mr. Know-it-all. Now it's your turn.

Gan Fo asked if he really has to do it and I was going to say that he doesn't need to, but Kisha had other plans. She started to hype him up by calling his name with this spark of excitement in her eyes. Gan Fo sighed but he got up and placed his drink on the table that's on his way to the middle of the room but he proceeded to walk in front of the Solya's and Skylar's room. When he arrived, he pivoted on the spot while keeping his hands inside his pockets and then nodded at the other side of the room. We all turned our heads to stare at the wall Gan Fo pointed at with his chin and waited. After a few seconds, we heard a whooshing sound and Gan Fo appeared in front of the wall everyone was staring at with a second whoosh noise.

Gan Fo: This distance is pretty easy. I can't travel longer distances yet and I pretty much need to know where I am going or I might get stuck inside a wall or get ripped apart while I am mid transport.

That sounded so dangerous but Gan Fo didn't show any signs of fear on his face like I would if I was in his shoes. I guess that's the difference between a person who has been studying magic their whole life and then me, who got thrown into this world without knowing it even exists. Gan Fo did seem a little bit disappointed though. He is powerful, has a great knowledge about magic since he comes from a prominent family, but it looks like he doesn't want the power he got. No wonder though, because it costed him his friends, if you can even call Ledon and Mairi your friends. I wanted to cheer him up and show him that I am really interested in being his friend.

Me: You sound so smart, Gan Fo. Can you teach me about magic sometimes?

Gan Fo: What would I teach you as a demigod.

Me: I don't know. Just stuff. I am interested in learning also magician history not just mine.

Gan Fo: Sure.

I don't know if this helped him or not. He didn't smile or anything, only went to sit down and continue enjoying his drink. Maybe with time. I slouched in my pillow and folded into a baby position to sit more comfortably because I started to feel very drowsy and sleepy. Reilly was back to normal, not panting from the game anymore thanks to her enhanced stamina. She changed her seats to be closer to me and we started to talk but I couldn't think about my replies anymore which she noticed so Reilly asked me if we should go. We still have maybe about two hours of time to stay remaining but I guess it would be better if we go and hit our beds. Professor Coldos might ask me to work hard on the research again and I don't want to power through just with the energy drinks. I need my full thinking working brain so that I can gather as much information as possible about this researcher, my mother.

The girls were pouting and pleading so that we stay longer but even Gaia and Nima joined us and wanted to leave. After those two, the girls stopped asking us to stay but they were still sad about it because they wanted to hang out more. I offered to spend breakfast with them or maybe even lunch if I am free from The student's week, to which they happily agreed.

I checked if I have everything which is only my phone, room key and the ticket pass, and then we left the room. Everyone escorted us into the Ossilor common room but they didn't want to go all the way to the crossing door. We want to get back to the party and enjoy it as long as we can, they said. I chuckled because it made me happy to see my friends having fun and I was also glad that I went, because I haven't had this much fun, uhm, probably never in my life.

Chanti: It's so sad that you can't join us for the Samhain. You would have loved it, guys.

Solya: But there is a way for you to check it out for a bit. The whole school will be on lockdown and you can't exit the building but if you go to the highest floor in the east wing, there is a common room with a big window that's facing the Samhain bonfire. You can watch it from there.

Based on how the girls described it, this celebration sounded amazing and I wanted to see it, even if I can't participate. I asked Reilly and Nima if they want to watch it with me and Nima agreed. Reilly said that she will be out of the academy grounds. "Mom business" she called it. I only nodded and didn't ask further because I know what it might be about. I thanked Solya for letting us know about the spot and then we slowly walked from the Ossilor dorm.

Gan Fo joined us too. He had to go back to the Dorhan dormitory and I was a little bit said that he decided to leave the party too but not surprised since I was the one that called him and I am leaving. I just hoped that he might stay and make friends with the girls.

We left the dorm and walked through the halls when we reached Dorhan dormitories and Gan Fo was going to separate from our small group and leave. Before he could disappear into the Dorhan common room, he called me and asked to talk with me in private. I told the girls to go ahead without me and that I will catch up with them, and if not, I will just get back into our room later. The girls said goodbye to Gan Fo and me, then continued on their way towards the crossing door. I joined Gan Fo and we walked into the Dorhan common room.

The room is smaller than the Ossilor one. Instead of dark forest green walls decorated with golden ornaments, this one feels warmer with its' brown and orange colors. The lay out is pretty similar to Ossilor common room even though there is not as much furniture as it is in Ossilor.

Me: I would guess that this common room fits more Ossilor colors and vibe rather than Dorhan.

Gan Fo: That's because it used to be an Ossilor dorm. They've swapped with Dorhan because in the past decade, there is an increase in Ossilor Manifestations which means they needed bigger dorm to fit everyone.

Me: Which house is the biggest then? Idarins?

Gan Fo: You would think so but no. It's Ossilor, then Idarin, Dorhan and the smallest one is Unell. They don't have the numbers but they sure do act like Idarins are the best though.

Me: Ledon and Mairi?

Gan Fo: Not just them. Generally Idarin powers over the elements are more powerful and more desirable than the others. People who get sorted into Idarin are usually proud of just the fact that they did.

Me: I have still seen people being friends even if they are in different house.

Gan Fo: They are. Most of them stay friends even if they get split. They usually see each other in classes anyway. I guess I wasn't their real friend.

Me: I am sorry for that, Gan Fo. I truly am even if it's not my fault or yours, and if you want to talk about it, I am here. Well, not really because I can't stay permanently but I can pop into the Aveus cafeteria from time to time and we can have lunch together.

Gan Fo: Thanks. It means a lot to me. And I wanted to thank you for wasting your time on me today too.

Me: It wasn't a waste. I think you are actually great and really smart. I am only sad that I can't learn from you in the classes anymore.

I smiled at Gan Fo and I could swear that his mouth twitch upwards to a soft smile too but he quickly got rid of it and cleared his throat, pretending like nothing happened and then wished me goodnight. We said our goodbyes and then I left the Dorhan common room to maybe try and catch up with the girls in the hallway.

Sadly I couldn't make it in time and the girls were nowhere around which means they probably have crossed already. I slowed my tempo because I tried to walk fast to find them but now I can relax and let my muscles, which are still sore, to rest. I got to the crossing door and showed the ticket to the guardian. He took it and stamped it with his palm again. I waited for the guardia to hand it back but it dissipated in golden dust and then he moved his hand over the door to open them. Well, it was a one day pass so makes sense, I guess. As always, I thanked the guardian for letting me pass and then went straight into my room.

My knees cried as I made them work hard on the stairs but they lasted until I got back to the dorm. Reilly has already changed into a more comfortable outfit and is currently puffing out air, breathing steady during her late workout.

Me: How can you still move around after the party, dancing and the volley game?

Reilly: I was just bored while waiting for you. Exercising for me is just like breathing anyway.

She is right. When Reilly is working out, it looks so effortless meanwhile if I decided to it, I would probably die after few planks or crunches or whatever. Which is even more reason for me to start. I need to harden my muscles and prepare my body so that I can withstand my powers or after every release I my limbs will turn into jello. I am going to start another day though. Right now I will be the happiest person on the Earth if I can just drop on my bed and sleep.

I was looking forward to spread my sore body on the matrace and cover myself with new fresh bed sheets so I quickly removed my make up and changed clothes. Reilly joined me too in the bathroom and did the same, then we went to bed.

Waking up early the next morning was tough and I protested when Reilly tried to pull me away from the bed. She stole my blanket, leaving me shiver under the sudden cold air but I still didn't leave the bed. My body felt a tiny bit better than yesterday. I should probably ask Draco about that tonic and drink it again. I put that thought into my mental to do list and then finally left my bed because Reilly kept nagging me like she is my mom.

I don't know how I managed to put clothes on me and gather all the things that I need for the classes. We are already buying our breakfast and the girls from The student's week are waiting for us at the table. I did check the cafeteria to see if I catch Gan Fo but sadly he wasn't here yet. I sat at the table, resting my head on my hand and dozing off, almost falling into the plate with croissants twice. At least I made Jess and Enko laugh and start their day on a happy note but I did wonder how they are not dying after staying up even more for the party after we left.

Jess: Enhancement spell. Your friend, that smart one, taught us how to replenish energy and boost our bodies for a short period of time.

Me: Solya? That sounds amazing. I wish I could do that too. But isn't it dangerous?

Jess: She did warn us not to use it often because the body needs to rest naturally. This is only in dire cases when you are studying for finals or similar occasions and you need to be alert.

I should probably add it into my list of spells to learn anyway. I am planning on learning the soundproof shield first but I also want to test out other spells to see if I can really still cast as a magician or not.

I wasn't sure what are we going to do today for our research so just in case Professor Coldos asks me to work without interruptions, I bought food that I can store in my backpack today too, then went straight into his office.

The room was locked so I used the key I got to let myself in and prepared to work. I waited for maybe thirty minutes, just sitting there and not doing anyway but Professor Coldos was nowhere to be seen. After that half an hour I got bored so I picked the Noion books and started to re-type them into the laptop. I worked for about two hours when Professor Coldos finally showed up and was surprised to see me here already.

Professor Coldos: How long have been here for?

Me: Something little over two hours. I started to work on the books and tried to catch up with the translation.

Professor Coldos: I can see that. You could have just come later though. I don't have morning classes today.

Me: I wasn't sure when to arrive so I went at the same time I did since Monday.

Professor Coldos: I didn't give you my class schedule?

Me: Oh. I do have it. I just didn't check. As you know, I also have a personal interest in Viysus, Noion and the first prince Woreus so I don't mind coming early to do some work.

Professor Coldos: I expected you to sleep in since you had that celebratory party yesterday but do as you wish.

I went back into translating while Professor Coldos is putting away his things and preparing his table to work too. The book I am working on right now is pretty much a botany book about plants that grow in Viysus so it didn't give me any new information about the place or my family and I was almost done with it too.

I finished the last page and then lifted my arms into the air to stretch. Letting my body bend over the chair slightly also helped cracking my back and then my stomach grumbled. I wanted to stay and help with the books like I did yesterday but I ate everything I bought in those two hours I was here. Professor Coldos said that I should go eat something and that today he doesn't mind if I take a longer break. I checked the time on my phone and it's around lunch hour so since I am already holding it, I quickly group messaged the girls. One by one they started to reply that they will join me after they finish this class in like twenty minutes. I didn't want to sit alone in the cafeteria so I decided to clean up around the office and sort the books that are done and which I still need to translate. I asked Professor Coldos where I should put the ones I don't need anymore and then placed them where he told me to. I cleaned around my desk and then put my laptop into the sleep mode.

Professor Coldos: You can take an hour break for lunch but I do want to give you one task. I got this USB to store the books you translate but I like to have them also on paper for easier access. Could you please go to the stationary shop after your lunch and print out what you wrote so far and then bring it to me? I will send you extra funds to your account to pay for it of course.

I copied the document onto the USB and then put into my backpocket so that I don't lose it inside my bag. I do have money with me but I didn't bring the golden plate that's supposed to be an access to our accounts.

I was going to use what I have on me but I am interested in how this whole thing works and also to check how much money there is on that account so before I got to the cafeteria, I went to grab the account key. I was the first one to arrive so I bought my lunch and then went to save a larger table for everyone to have a place to sit. Reilly, Jess and Enko came soon after and then joined me in eating our food. Nima excused herself from the lunch, saying that she will stay with Professor Hellion and go try to tame some animals in the forest. Gaia also said that she won't join us because she wants to rest before the Samhain. It apparently takes a toll on a Hades descendant's body to channel the spirits but they can't really stop it when it's around Samhain. She got even excused from The student's week and any activities until Sunday.

The Ossilor girls had their Controlling class and they joined us half an hour later. We talked casually and discussed the party. Solya mentioned that I was supposed to explain the situation in the auditorium so I did. I swiftly told them what I heard and Jess with Enko backed me up. They all thought that it's really stupid reason to stop being friends but at the end, Chanti said that it's better to be rid of them rather than continuing a fake friendship. We didn't have much information about it anyway and it seems that Gan Fo didn't tell anything about it to the girls during the party. But they said that he is actually a nice person and that they don't mind hanging out with him. Which brought them to yell out his name across the whole cafeteria and wave at Gan Fo who just got in here, following Ledon and Mairi. The couple walked together and Gan Fo only walked like their servant behind them but then he stopped moving as soon as Jess yelled at him. Mairi noticed that he is not moving anymore and paused her walk, standing two feet in front of him. She trailed the direction Gan Fo is looking at and then her eyes locked on us. She scoffed with an extra annoyance added to it as a spice and then crossed her arms in front of her chest, puffing up her boobs which you can clearly see like any other time since Mairi prefers to wear very revealing clothes with deep cleavage. Her body shifted to the right and she raised her eyebrow at Gan Fo, then started to talk to him. Or more like argue and yell at him. We couldn't hear much of what she is saying through the chatter in the cafeteria but I knew it's not a nice conversation. Ledon hugged Mairi from the side, resting his arms on her stomach and said something to her, probably something in the line let that loser go or something similar. Mairi didn't stop yelling at Gan Fo and she didn't care that she is causing a scene and everyone is looking at her. She would't mind that because she loves to be the center of the attention. Gan Fo looked like he wants to disappear from the room and he has the power to do it. What I didn't expect from him is to actually use it. I stood up and didn't even have to think hard about summoning my powers. The blue electricity appeared in a millisecond and Mairi noticed that, especially since everyone gasped and the people around me moved away. She hated that the attention shifted to me but I didn't hold it for long. Gan Fo got his food and then teleported to our table. He sat down without even looking at the elite trio that has now turned into a duo and started to eat his food like nothing happened. But it did and the message was clear – Gan Fo is no longer a pawn for those two and he showed where his alliance lies now. Ledon glanced our way and gave Gan Fo a death stare, not that Gan Fo saw because he is busy swirling his spaghetti onto his fork.

I am still standing, the power flowing and dancing around me until Reilly told me to calm down. I realized that I forgot to stop channeling or even sit down. I cleared my throat and then got back to my food. Everyone else in the cafeteria kept staring at us like we are some celebrities but our table continued the conversation.

Kisha: Welcome to the squad, Mr. Know-it-all.

Gan Fo: Thanks, Ms. Harajuku.

Kisha: Hey! It's Kisha.

Gan Fo: And it's Gan Fo. Liu Gan Fo.

Me: Touché. He got you there Kish.

Kisha: He did. I like him already.

We started to laugh and Lucy almost choked on her baked potatoes so Crimen had to pat her back as Chanti handed her the bottle of Cola she bought to flush it down. Everyone had a great lunch and it was nice to hang out like this. Well, except Skylar who didn't bother to join us. I wasn't mad though because I had an idea where she might be.

The lunch was over and I wanted to stay more to talk with my friends but I still had to go check how that banking system here works and also print the translated books. It will be a lot of pages so it might take a while for them to get printed. I asked around the group if someone can show me where the ATM is and show me how it works. Ossilor girls had other classes to attend so they left first. Reilly said that she knows where the bank room is on the Umbras side but on the Aveus side, it might be located somewhere else which lead to Jess and Enko offering to take me to it here and then Reilly will show me the one on the Umbras half.

We walked to the shop area and then passed every one of them. I noticed three big printers through the glass window in one of the places and noted that one as the stationary shop I need to go to, but I did ask the girls just in case. The bank room is at the end of the shopping hallway. There is just small casual rectangle door leading inside and the room is split into two by a half glass, half wooden wall. Behind the glass is a young lady sitting and stamping papers. She is maybe only ten years older than me, dressed in a navy blue suit jacket with white embroidered decorations, her hazel brown hair neatly tucked and gelled into a bun, then covered under this weird round hat that had a flat top. Jess told me to just walk up to her and then ring a bell. I looked around and found a small bell on this little desk, so I hit it with my palm. The lady stopped her work, looked at me with her red lips twisted into a huge smile on her face that turned even her eyes into two lines.

Bank lady: How can I help you, young student?

Me: I wish to check the amount of my account.

Bank lady: Of course. Your bank key?

I quickly searched my bag for the key and handed it over once I found it. The lady inserted it into this golden square machine and then typed something into her computer. I waited for her answer while standing behing the glass window. I wasn't expecting much but her answer shocked the air out of my lungs.

Bank lady: Kaitlin Holland, Umbras first-year, Zeus descendant. Is that you?

Me: Correct.

Bank lady: Your balance for the school year 2021 is $639,118.37

Me: What?

Bank lady: Your account balance is-

Me: Yes, I am sorry, I heard you. I just can't believe how much money there is.

I barely had 12k saved from working at the coffee shop and I used quite a lot from those savings since I arrived to AU Academy. Where did all the money come from? I doubt that they paid me this much just because I won The student's week. This definitely has to be a mistake.

Bank lady: Oh. There is a new deposit from Professor Coldos to your account in the amount of $150. Your new balance is $639,268.37

Me: I am sorry but that has to be wrong.

Bank lady: No worries. Do you want me to check the account if there has been any suspicious activity and withdrawals?

Me: No. I mean. The amount is just huge and it has to be some kind of mistake, no?

Bank lady: Hmm, let me check. No withdrawals yet and no suspiscious activity. Oh, I might know why it surprises you. Your account has a ten percent additional amount of finances which are assigned to students that come from non-magical families and a thirty percent additional amount for a student that has no direct family. Is that incorrect?

Me: No, that fits.

Bank lady: Very well then. Is there any other thing I may aid you with?

Me: I would like to withdraw some money. What is the daily limit?

Bank lady: None. You may wish to withdraw as much money as you want. Up to the amount on your account of course. How much do you wish to withdraw?

I asked the lady to withdraw the $150 from Professor Coldos separately because I want to use those bills to pay for the printing and return the rest to the professor. For the second withdrawal I got two thousand in smaller bills so that I can use them to buy food in the cafeteria and the rest I will add to the savings I have in my room, even though I thought that it would be probably safer to deposit that money into my account and keep just a casual amount on me to buy food or stuff around the school.

After I got my money, I thanked the bank lady and then go to the stationary shop so that I can print the translated Noion books for Professor Coldos like he asked me to. I didn't check how many pages it was when I copied the file on the USB and I just handed it over to the shop worker. Or at least I tried. When he saw that I want to get stuff printed, he pointed me towards one of the computers that are next to each printer and told me that I can just print the stuff myself, get a receipt and then come pay.

I plugged the USB into the pc, found the file and saw that it's over three hundred pages long. That's going to take some time and I should probably just let it print before I went to the bank, then go check my account as it is printing. Can't turn back time, only maybe Draco can, but I am not going to even ask him to do that so I just hit print and then waited for the pc to throw the estimated time of printing at me. After it counted all pages, the screen said that it will take abou fourty three minutes to finish printing. That is way too long to be just standing here so went to ask the cashier if I can just let it print, go do something else and then come back after it's done. Luckily I could do that. The worker is a graduated magician and even though he seemed annoyed with me that I didn't calculate the printing time, he still did casting movements with his hands that started like those for a shield spell but the last motions were different. A bright green shield appeared around the pc and the printer.

Stationary worker: It's a protection spell for your stuff. It won't allow anyone to mess up your printing while you are gone. When you return, I will take it down and you can pick up the pages.

I thanked the worker and apologized that he has to hold the shield in place while I am gone but he said that it's a part of his job and he was bored anyway. I am going to be bored too because everyone went back to their classes or to their mentors so there was no one to hang out with me. Maybe Draco is free but I don't have his number, or where his room is, or his schedule for today because he might be in class too. Then I thought of Mr. Hale but the visiting ban for me hasn't been lifted yet and based on the way how he acted in the combat grounds, I doubt that he would want to see me. All I can do is to go back to the office and work in the meantime. When the pages are done, I can just quickly get down here and pick them up.

I returned to the Professor Coldos' office. He was shelving some of the books in other languages and he noticed that I am not carrying the printed pages so he asked if I forgot but I explained what happened and he didn't say anything else after. I went to my desk and wanted to type some more but as I got there, I saw new hand-written notes placed right next to my laptop.

Professor Coldos: I asked around the Noion researchers if there are any notes left by Evie Hallor and they arrived today. You can start working on those and then go pick up the printed pages.

Me: Note by hand these too?

Professor Coldos nodded and then pointed at his table where a stack of clear papers is waiting for me. I took the stack and placed it to the back of my desk, behind my laptop. I licked the tips of my thumb and my index finger to be able to unstick the pages and grabbed once sheet of paper. I prepared the empty page on the right and one page of the research notes on the left, next to the clean paper and then started to write each sentence I can see as I am reading through the text.

June, 1969: I inquired to borrow the Ulferonn grimoire but was denied access. Or more like they denied that it even exists. I will have to work with Noion books that are available for now.

July, 1969: I dropped my research about Viysus academically and chose a different area, only on paper of course. Recent activity around me has proved that asking for Ulferonn grimoire has been a mistake and it attracted suspicious people.

December, 1969: During my Winter holiday I decided to search in the Sgaard Academy's library for any new information about Viysus. One book has a possible lead about a glass obelisk that serves as a transport station from Ethos to Viysus. It is unknow if this portal exists and if it works both ways.

June, 1972: I found that according to legends, only the royal family can open a portal to the Viysus dimension. This will also be my last note in my research. Tomorrow is my graduation from Aveus. Also, I will all of my notes to go to a student who is passionate about finding Viysus and is proficient in Noion language, and only a student. If there is no such student after fifty years, these notes will be discarded and burn all of my research. For claiming the notes, state your name above them and wish to inherit them.

The rest of the notes is just some diagrams and drawing of summoning circles or a person walking through a portal, then an obelisk and other pictures I don't recognize. I quickly did a report to Professor Coldos about what I read in the notes and asked what we should do, because the fifty-year limit on the notes is almost over. He read through my notes and then asked me to claim the protocol notes for myself. I declined his offer, saying that he will need the notes in the future and that my interest in Noion in not that big anyway but he pointed out that the researcher, my mother, clearly stated that the notes can be only passed to a student. I grabbed the page where I remembered seeing that note and went through it again. Professor Coldos is right, she did say that. So it was on me to claim the notes. I gathered all of the pages on my desk and then Professor Coldos also handed me the other pages that I have already translated and he had them stored inside this wooden treasure chest that's in the left corner of his office.

I hovered above the notes, said my name and that I wish to claim the notes. Nothing happened. I expected some zoom or whoosh sound, or light or maybe even fairy jingles, but nothing. Maybe nothing extravagant like that was supposed to happen and the notes are mine now? I picked up the stack and noticed that there is a name shift from Evie Hallor to... and blank. Okay, so maybe it didn't work. But I did everything my mom said in the note and I am sure I didn't mess it up because I am not that dumb to not know my name. And then it hit me. I said Kaitlin Holland. Do those notes know that it's not my real name? I mean I was legally signed like that by the orphanage but maybe magic knows anyway. It will be weird though if I suddenly say a different name in front of the professor, especially if that name is same as the researcher's. I tried to give it one more shot but I had to lean closer to the paper and whisper my name so that the professor doesn't hear me say it. And there it was, the light and the whoosh sound I expected before with a difference that now behind the name Evie Hallor there is also mine – Kaitlin Hallor.
