Chapter 31 - Flames of Battle! (Final Battle Part 1)
Ten years ago...
"Look, Daddy!" Parker swung back and forth in an old tire. He was only a kid, his mother and father caring for him, preparing him for his own journey.
"That's great son!" his Dad exclaimed with excitement, before looking out to the sea, deep in thought. "Really great."
"Groudon, Kyogre, cause chaos and destroy these lands!" the command was the final call for the beginning of the biggest battle the Johto region had ever had. Team Shadow retreated inside. In an instant, fire swarmed the grass and water doused the flames completely, the grass already burnt to ashes, completely black and dead. Everything around Parker had gone. Smoke and ash filled the air, causing Parker to cough heavily. He had to hold his breath as he took a few steps back, into a safer area than the middle.
"Bisharp, guillotine on Groudon!" Parker said this while reaching out for another Pokeball. He launched it straight at the water. "Gyarados, thunderbolt on Kyogre, now!"
Bisharp leapt into the air, straight at the towering legendary Pokemon, Groudon. However, before anything could happen, Groudon stomped on the ground, creating a rippling effect through the ground. Everything bounced up and the ground began to shake. Parker lost his balance and fell onto the floor. Gyarados and Kyogre were unaffected but Bisharp was sent flying back into the ground.
Gyarados hit Kyogre with the thunderbolt but it didn't seem to have much of an effect. Kyogre shook it off with ease and fired a huge jet of water past Gyarados, not aiming for the main opponent at all. Instead, Kyogre hit Bisharp. Parker's right-hand Pokemon was sent back into the air by the jet of water, crashing back down harshly on the ground.
"Bisharp, are you okay?!" Parker didn't move, being careful not to fall into any traps at the same time. Then, he remembered something.
That's right. Ash could do it so I can too! I can use all of my Pokemon.
"Gyarados, listen to my command. Mega evolve!" Parker flicked his mega-stone necklace upwards and then he reached into his jacket once more, bringing out two more Pokeballs. "Umbreon, Hydreigon, give it all you have got..."
Parker's last stand. All four Pokemon ready to battle against two incredibly strong legendaries. Bisharp managed to get up from the attacks, coming back to surround Parker. Gyarados was having a battle without command after mega-evolving, taking on Kyogre in a battle of dodging and diving. The rest of his Pokemon made a triangle formation around him, facing Groudon.
"What is he doing?" Elizabeth and the other members of Team Shadow were spectating from the roof, watching carefully for any problems.
"Fighting with all he has got. Such a pitiful kid..." her Boss said, with an immediate sigh following his comments.
"You should reveal who you are to him, now that would be a fun shock!" Elizabeth giggled, clearly joking.
"Maybe I should..." he actually considered it and then gestured to the battle. "Let's keep watching."
"Umbreon, shadow ball and aim for Groudon's face!" Parker began his plan from the top of his head, strategising at speeds that he had never realised he could do. "Bisharp, metal claw on Groudon's legs and Hydreigon, dragon rush, aim for the centre."
Each move happened in an order that Parker's Pokemon thought was best. Without any words, their teamwork proved a match for Groudon's power. Umbreon leapt onto Hydreigon as the dark-dragon Pokemon became surrounded in a blue aura, the aura taking the shape of Hydreigon itself. Hydreigon rushed forward straight at Groudon as the legendary Pokemon opened up its mouth, a swirling mass of fire shooting off towards the two Pokemon. Umbreon jumped and Hydreigon continued to rush forward, the fire missing them completely.
Meanwhile, Bisharp was running forward towards Groudon's legs. Groudon attempted to stomp on Bisharp but the metal claws were out and Bisharp was more aware of the attack, this time, sliding around it. As this happened, Bisharp cut across the right leg of Groudon. Bisharp stopped sliding and turned, lunging for the left leg this time. Parker's Pokemon successfully connected with the left leg too, just as Umbreon was firing the shadow ball, a direct hit into the face of Groudon.
In a wobbling state, Groudon was unable to attack. Hydreigon charged forward, smashing straight into the stomach of Groudon. There was a moment that made it seem like nothing had happened, but Hydreigon pushed away and Groudon stumbled back, seemingly dazed.
"Please say that did something..." Parker murmured, being hopeful his plan was working.
Groudon roared. It echoed across the whole land, shaking up the Earth and causing anyone in the vicinity to stop. Parker's ears were ringing. He felt dazed from the huge roar. There was nothing he could do as he stumbled back, falling onto one knee.
I am going to lose... He couldn't help but think this as he slowly came back to reality. It wasn't over yet, however.
"Pikachu, electro ball!"
"Dragonite, fire punch!"
"Pansage, solar beam!"
"Gyarados, flamethrower!"
"Blaziken, blaze kick!"
"Steelix, rock throw!"
"Mega Blaziken, power-up punch!"
"Slurpuff, energy ball!"
"Luxray, swift!"
"Togekiss, aura sphere!"
Each long-range move crashed into Groudon simultaneously as Parker looked on with a grin. As soon as the smoke cleared from these moves, May's Blaziken hit Groudon with a fiery kick, before retreating. Iris's Dragonite slammed its fist into Groudon at the same time as Gary's Mega Blaziken, both moves causing a great deal of damage.
"Parker, finish it!" Ash called over all of the attacks.
"Umbreon..." Parker slowly got up, smiling at the Pokemon he had from the beginning. Years of memories, the good and the bad ones, each one coming back to his mind. "Finish it, destroy Groudon with as many shadow balls as you see fit!"
Umbreon turned and shared the same determination as Parker. There was a certain increase in power as Umbreon was too quick for Groudon to react, zig-zagging and circling around with ease while constantly hitting each shadow ball.
"This time, for sure. Do it, Umbreon, giga impact!" Parker yelled out, this signal sent Hydreigon on the move, flying towards Umbreon.
In two swift movements, Umbreon leapt through the legs of Groudon, landing on Hydreigon's head, before leaping upwards from Hydreigon, spinning around. While spinning, the orange streaks began to from around Umbreon, forcing Parker's main-Pokemon's momentum to shift. Umbreon smashed straight into the face of Groudon, an explosion occurring from the power of the move.
Everyone watched.
Everyone waited.
Groudon stumbled back and then froze, everything becoming silent. Then it actually happened. Groudon dropped, crashing into the ground. Smoke and dust rose from the ground, covering Groudon completely.
"We did it?" Parker took a deep breath and then turned around. Gyarados had fainted. Team Shadow had teamed up to take out his mega-evolving Pokemon. Kyogre was still up, ready to battle.
"Let's finish this!" Ash walked up to Parker and put a hand on his shoulder. Everyone else came to stand in a line.
"Where are the champions? What about Bonnie?" Parker couldn't help but ask.
"Bonnie went to visit home, she said it was important," Clemont frowned, wondering what she might be up to.
"You'll find out soon," Gary tapped his nose, to signal a secret. Parker nodded and grinned, looking straight ahead at Team Shadow, who were also grinning in turn.
"Let's do this!" Parker cracked his knuckles and waited for the battle to begin.
Meanwhile...with the Pokemon Champions
"What are we looking for again?" Cynthia asked the rest of the group. They were all in the back of a truck, heading to a specific destination in the Kalos region.
"You remember what they explained to us? That Serena might be alive...in another universe," Diantha replied like it was obvious, folding her arms.
"Well, it would explain those crazy dreams we all had. So I am guessing the Reflection Cave is our destination?" Cynthia didn't need a reply, she knew what the answer was.
"Why are we doing this? We have duties as champions still, even after everything..." Alder frowned slightly.
"It's because of everything that has happened..." Lance spoke and everyone turned to the front of the truck. Lance looked up, his robe hood falling down against his back. "We owe it to Ash and his friends to start connecting the dots. Don't forget we are a part of this mess too."
"We're here," Steven cut off the conversation, pressing down on the breaks. Everyone jolted slightly before relaxing as the truck came to a final halt.
"Let's do this!" Cynthia clapped her hands together and hopped out of the back.
The Battle...
"Pikachu, iron tail!" Ash was facing off with The Boss of Team Shadow, his Bisharp staring menacingly, arms folded.
"Metal claw," The Boss put an arm forward and the two Pokemon clashed, tail and claw connecting together.
"Blaziken, power-up punch!" Gary was focusing his attacks on Kyogre, having a mega-evolved Pokemon in play. He wasn't using fire type moves and being cautious, instead, he was attacking with other moves that he knew were just as strong and this move made Blaziken stronger every time.
Kyogre wasn't putting up much of a fight, not being the fastest Pokemon in the world to react or attack. Blaziken was dodging attacks with ease, being one of Gary's quickest.
Everyone was fighting somewhere across the ash-covered field, various moves connecting and clashing, smoke rising all over the place. Ash and his friends had the numbers, but they didn't have the legendary Pokemon in play.
Kyogre suddenly moved around Blaziken, diving down into the water. Within another second, Kyogre rose back up and crashed down, sending waves of water into the air. While the waves began crashing down on top of all of the Pokemon in the vicinity, Kyogre took the opportunity to mask a hydro pump, the jet of water successfully crashing into Gary's Blaziken, who fainted immediately due to the overwhelming power.
"Blaziken, return!" Gary was almost desperately trying to get into battle when everything started to fail.
There was a sudden thunderous roar that echoed through the fields once more. It was all too familiar. Everyone turned and stopped fighting, realising the smoke had never cleared on Groudon. The shape of Groudon began to engulf the smoke and the legendary Pokemon was back up, eyes glowing orange and a menacing face ready to cause chaos.
Fire began to explode, waves began to crash down. One by one, Pokemon began to drop. Even on the side of Team Shadow. The legendary Pokemon didn't mind about collateral damage at this point. Their order was to cause chaos and they were doing just that. Everyone had to back off before they themselves became hurt, returning their Pokemon in the process.
"Pikachu!" Ash rushed forward into the flames and picked Pikachu up, quickly rushing back just as a large molten rocked lodged itself into the ground, where Ash was just stood. He continued running towards his friends, leaving Pikachu out of harms way.
"We threw everything we had at Groudon and now they are both fighting together simultaneously?!" May exclaimed while some of the others murmured words of the same effect.
"If I still had Gyarados then I could distract Kyogre..." Parker scratched his chin, annoyed that he had no backup plan.
"I know what we can do," Ash stated boldly. Everyone looked at him. "I have to do this. You guys handle Groudon, Kyogre is mine."
"You can't handle a legendary on your own!" Miette made Ash sound like he was insane. She grabbed onto his arms and stared into his serious eyes. "Don't do it."
"I have to, you understand why," Ash began to tear up and it had an effect on Miette, who felt tears rolling down her eyes too. "This is for Serena. Revenge tastes sweet, or so they say. I want to taste it. I want to bring one of them down with my own hand. I want...to taste it..."
"I understand," Miette let go of Ash and let him have a moment, while turning to the others. She felt her emotions slip away, determination coming to the front of her mind. "We have to do this. Let's take out Team Shadow once and for all!"
Everyone shouted with encouraging agreements, while Gary and Parker stepped to Ash to give him encouragement for the final battle.
"Remember, Ash. We will figure everything else out," Gary put a hand on Ash's left shoulder and Parker put one on the right.
"Yeah, let's go to the Kalos region together, no mistakes," Parker smiled.
Ash looked at them both and then grinned.
"That's the plan," he said before stepping forward. Pikachu slept soundly in the background, out of harms way. "I never really understood what I could do with my life without you, Serena. I feel kind of empty. It's a hard thing to describe...love, I mean. You just feel it. It is a natural feeling that you can never shake away. When that all important question comes up, 'do you like me?' you want to always say yes, right? That's something I didn't understand. I was a fool, pretty stupid, huh? Heh...well, I know I am going to see you again, whether it is in my dreams or in some parallel world, so it's about time I kicked some ass in your name."
"How..." Gary folded his arms and raised an eyebrow.
"Sentimental..." Parker finished, both watching Ash walk forward, straight towards Kyogre while the others prepared for a battle of their own.
"Greninja...show no mercy," Ash's voice was suddenly malicious, a soft whisper that spoke 'violence'. He launched Greninja's Pokeball forward and prepared for the battle of his life.
