chapter 5

Zoella Johnson:

Now that I had graduated and officially moved to Miami, I had to find a job.

Easy, right? Wrong.

It has been a week since the engagement party and were 6 months away from the wedding, so I had 6 months to find a job and then get a place because there was no way I could afford this place once Leila moved out.

I had graduated with a degree in Journalism and I have applied to several magazine, mainly sports, growing up with a soccer coach for a father made that sports passion in me grow.

I had an interview for some sports mag "Rush" later this afternoon and I was getting ready, I had asked Leila for her help but she was off with John making wedding plans.

My father had made the contact for me even after my insistence for him not to. I wanted to do this on my own, I didn't want his help and not because I was to proud to use it, but I wanted to feel accomplished. He was a famous coach and just the mention of his name would grant me a job on the spot.

Once I was ready dressed in a pants suit, I think I looked pretty professional. I was a bit nervous, now even though 'Rush' was a popular magazine I had no idea who ran the whole thing and I just hoped I didn't have to face some sexist asshole who wouldn't give the job or give me a lower position because of my gender. Something that had happened on Monday when I intended to be Editor and was offered the position of a secretary.

I spent 4 years studying in college, for the most art journalism so I wasn't going to do a job that probably didn't even need half of the studying I did.

I called for a taxi since I didn't have a car and probably wasn't going to buy one. I think I could manage by walking or taking the bus and if worse comes to worse I could always ask Leila or my father to borrow their vehicle or for a ride.

After paying the taxi fare, I took a deep breath, I had to act confident if I wanted a job here, and I planned to do exactly that.

"Hello, I'm here for an interview with David Cook" I told the receptionist, my voice didn't even shake, something I praised myself silently for.

"You're name is?" she asked as she held up the phone.

"Zoella Johnson," I told her again without a hint of nervousness.

After some talking on the phone she smiled at me and said " Go to the elevator on your right to the fifth floor and enter his office, he's waiting for you"

"Thank you" I told her and turned around to leave as she wished me good luck.

I walked over to where the receptionist had indicated me to go and pressed the grew button signaling up and watched it light up. A guy who looked about my age, give or take a few years stood next to me.

"Wow! Zoella Johnson?" He asked and stuck out his hand for me to shake.

Not knowing what else to do I shook his hand and said "The one and only"

"How's the modeling coming along?" He asked and found it weird that a guy ( or anyone for that matter, I wasn't that well know) knew about my modeling career, or the modeling career that I once had and something I was not going back to. Modeling was what paid my college fees. I had refused to let my father pay for something so expensive.

"I'm not a model anymore, I'm actually applying for a job here" I told him as the elevator door opened.

We both climbed on and he smiled "I'm sure you'll do great, David is great." He commented and pressed the button for the 2nd floor, and then the 5th.

"Fifth floor right, David's office?" He asked in confirmation.

"Right" I told him.

Once we reached the 2nd floor the door opened and he turned around and said "Well, I hope you get the job, I look forward to seeing you around here"

I really hope so too.

The elevator made a DING! Letting me know that I had reached the fifth floor.

I got off and saw a long corridor, I walked all the way and found myself in a waiting area with David Cook's secretary sitting at her desk.

"Zoella Johnson?" She asked me and I smiled trying not to act nervous and said "Yes"

"Great, walk right in, he's waiting" She said smiling.

What I had noticed though, was that everyone here was more than friendly.

I walked over to the door and took a deep breath before knocking even though the secretary had told me to walk right in.

"Come right in!" A voice shouted and I opened the door nervously and I mentally scolded myself for it.

Now was not a time to let my shyness hit me, I had to fight against it.

I walked right in and found myself surprised to see a guy in jeans and a t shirt and almost my age maybe a few years. I had expected an older and more formal person.

"Sit right down" He said pointing to the chair and smiled warmly.

It was a short interview and every now and then he would crack some jokes and I left the room feeling good about myself. I had acted professional and he didn't even bring up my modeling something I had really hoped wouldn't put a damper to my chances.

I left the office and decided to pay my father a visit, the last time I saw him was at the engagement party and let's say we didn't have enough time to catch up, it had been at least a year since the last time I had seen him.

"Hey dad, want to have lunch?" I asked him over the phone and I heard him chuckle

"I'm with John and Martin working on strategy plans but you're welcome to bring a good order of food with you" he said and I stopped my self from groaning.

I was in no mood to deal with arrogant and annoying Martin Taylor but I couldn't ever say no to my father so reluctantly I replied "I'll be there in 30"

I went to the nearest McDonald's I could find from my father's house which was 15 minutes away walking but since I was wearing heels there was no way I could make it so I called for a taxi.

I paid the cab fare and went to order some food. I ordered a double big mac combo for John and Martin, I mean they were huge guys with big bellies, right? I bought a salad for my father, and a McChicken combo for me.

I was in and out thankfully in a matter of minutes and decided to walk the rest of the way, it was a short walk, about a few blocks.

When I arrived with my hands full it was a hard task trying to open the door and gave up on it and opted for ringing the bell. A lot of times so they would hurry up, it was something I always did when I came to my father's house,

With my luck though, martin ended up being the one to open the door for me and of course he had a lame comment to say.

"MM, that smells wonderful, and you look wonderful, next time show up at my house like this."

And then I heard my father's shout from the living room "Behave yourself Martin because I have no problem in kicking you out of my house, star player or not"

I chuckled at that as Martin's face turned serious.

Martin took the bag from my hands and I went over to give my father a hug, "It's been so long!" I said and he smiled at me.

I took a moment to look at him, while he was in good shape for his age, he was losing hair and it was now more grayish than before.

I went over to John and gave him a kiss on the cheek, "Hey I got no kiss!" Martin cried and I chuckled and ran upstairs to what used to be my room to change into something more comfortable before eating.

I put on a pair of Jean shorts and a loose green top and took of my heels, I always preferred to be barefoot around the house, something my mother always scolded me for.

When my father had moved here right before I went to college I had designed this room as my dream room but never actually got to live in it, and I don't think I ever will but I now used it as a storage for my old stuff. High school yearbooks, old clothing (like the one I just put on) etc.

When I reached down the guys were already feasting, "Hey the McChicken is mine!" I shouted before anyone could eat my food, I was starving!

I took the only seat available in the small kitchen table, much to my dismay next to Martin and began eating.

I didn't look up until I finished my food and when I did I was clearly embarrassed everyone was looking at me. After taking a long drink of sprite I said "I was.. hungry"

Everyone then chuckled "Yeah, we noticed" Martin commented.

After a bit of talking between Martin, John and my father, John announced that he was leaving to pick up Leila from the gym. He helped me pick up the plates and the McDonald's bag and throw the garbage away and after saying goodbye to everyone he left.

Martin and my father went back to the living room saying they had to discuss 'Top secret team stuff' which meant I wasn't allowed to go in there until they called me over, which was fine with me, they didn't even try to whisper.

"I got a call yesterday from Manchester United and they offered a pretty good deal for you" My father said slowly but instantly Martin's voice cut him off.

"Send me the transfer file with the information but I don't know, Rob, I'm comfortable here, I have my life here and even though moving around is involved with the job, I don't know."

"Alright, think about it" Was his final response and I decided to show my face at the living room.

I went upstairs and picked up my bag with the interview clothes and put on some flip flops, I was in no mood for heels.

"Dad, I'm heading out, I want to catch up with Leila and see if we can go check out some sites later. I'll be back tomorrow" I announced.

"Leila and John have a date tonight" Martin informed.

My expression then dropped, I really wanted to go around the city for the last few days, but it was no fun doing it alone.

Both my father and Martin must have noticed my fallen expression because my father suddenly said "Why doesn't Martin show you around tonight? He knows all the great hot spots, right Marty?"

Martin now had a wide smirk on his face "Of course, I'll drop you off right now and pass by to pick you up later tonight"

"Oh no! You don't have to really" I said nervously trying to find a way out of another afternoon with Martin, yet again.

"I insist" was his fabulous response and my father interjected "He's trustworthy and you'll have fun!"

So I guess it was already decided for me but t least I would get to explore the city.

"Bye daddy!" I shouted as I walked out and heard Martin also say "See ya, Rob"

Climbing into Martin's Audi for the second time in a week I told him once again that he was not obligated to do this but for some reason he was always willing to do these small favours, and I suddenly decided that I was going to find out why.
