96- The Future Leaders
The human's words always rubbed the Gamma in the wrong way. He huffed, before asking, "What is the meaning of this? Do you have doubts on my capabilities? I can and I will protect them from the Moonstone pack. If they are destined to be together then I won't let anyone come in between them."
"And from our pack members?" Hritika questioned.
"Why would our pack mem—" Luna faltered, when Hritika moved aside and the couple entered the office, holding each other's hands.
"What....how??" Beta, Gamma and Luna were shocked out of their minds.
"Is this some kind of a joke?" Gamma roared in anger, making the Moonstone's warrior hide his trembling mate, behind him.
"We aren't joking nor are we lying," the warrior said in a firm tone, ready to fight if someone tried to harm his mate.
"How is this possible?" Luna asked in a loud tone, "Are you sure that you two aren't mistaken?" She asked the couple, in a normal tone this time.
"It is possible," Alpha answered instead, making Luna, Beta and Gamma turn to him with disbelieving eyes.
"Alpha, have you encountered same gender mates before?" Beta asked.
"Countless times," Alpha said, making everyone's eyes go wide, before continuing, "But not in our world."
Beta's eyebrows furrowed, "Not in our world, then—" he stopped abruptly as he realized that Alpha was talking about the human world.
"Why would Moon Goddess do that? Why would she select two males for a mate bond?" Gamma muttered in frustration, not understanding what was going on.
"Why should there be an answer? Have you ever questioned that why males and females mated? No right, then why should we question this?" Nihal questioned-back.
"And weren't you the one who said that we should accept our mates, no matter who they are? They are destined to be mates, so acceptance shouldn't be a problem right?" Yara asked, pointing out the things Gamma himself believed.
"What about the next generation?" Luna asked, "Two males can't procreate."
"But we can adopt. There are many orphan pups looking for a family. We can be the home they need," the chef answered, coming out of his mate's protection.
"I am more worried about the pack members. Just like my other leaders, I am sure they also haven't heard about any other kind of mates. Even if we accept them, we won't be able to save them from everyone. They will get outcasted and we will also get the brunt of everyone's anger," Alpha said.
He didn't mind the couple, but he knew taking them in would raise so many problems inside the pack.
"Some leader are you," Hritika muttered, as she scoffed at the fearful Alpha.
"Why now? You never cared about pack's anger when you married my mother, then why now care about it now?" Nihal asked, "Isn't it your duty to protect your pack members? Gaurav, has been the pack chef for so long, how can you just...." Nihal didn't finish, utterly disgusted by his father.
He could understand the other leaders as they were shocked and were hearing about gay couple for the first time. But his father, he who was aware of their existence, he who knew there wasn't anything wrong with it; he too didn't want to accept them. And this was something Nihal couldn't digest.
"Nihal, stop being emotional and think. The whole pack would be in uproar and not to mention the fact that Moonstone pack could also attack. Taking them in will cause our downfall."
"Didn't Gamma announce that he would protect the couple no matter what? Didn't he promise to fight Moonstone pack for the pack members?" Yara spoke, before taking out the mobile to let them hear the Gamma's words they had recorded before entering the room.
What are we leaders for if we cannot protect our members? They are mates and they have all the rights to stay together. We must protect them at all costs.
"If pack is going to harm them then isn't it our responsibility to protect them?" Yara asked, looking at the current leaders.
"Your point is valid Yara, but how will we explain this to the pack members. Two males being mates, how are we going to make them understand when even we are shocked by the happening?" Luna asked.
"I don't understand why anyone needs any explanation," Hritika bursted out, her temper reaching the limit from the entire conversation.
"Hritika," Yara whispered, shaking her head pleadingly to not escalate a fight in the already fragile situation.
"Excuse me?" Luna raised her eyebrows, shocked by her words.
"No seriously. Why does anyone want a thorough explanation? Did anyone provide a letter of justification of why they were best suited to become mates? No, right? Then why should they justify?
"And even if they weren't destined by Moon Goodness," Hritika stressed on destined as she didn't believe in all this one bit. "Even if they weren't destined, they all two consulting adults. If they want to be together, if they love each other, then who the hell are we to stop them?
"Why does my opinion, your opinion, pack's opinion or even Moon Goddess' opinion matter? It's their personal life. Can't we just let them live peacefully?" Hritika spoke, her voice getting louder with each passing sentence.
She didn't understand why they had to beg for their relationship in the first place. And to make matters worse, none of them were even trying to think of helping them.
"This isn't the way to talk to the leaders. You should know—"
Hritika's phone rang, cutting off Gamma's words.
"You should know better than to keep your phone on during a meeting in Alpha's office," Beta said sternly.
"Isn't it more insulting to ignore an Alpha's call?" Hritika asking, smiling sarcastically.
"Which Alpha will call her?" Gamma huffed.
Luna's eyebrows were also furrowed with confusion. Why would any Alpha call her? And how did they even have her number?
"Yes, Vivaan," Hritika said, picking up the phone.
Luna rolled her eyes, while the male leaders face palmed upon understanding about which Alpha, Hritika was talking about.
Hritika left the Alpha's office and closed the door tightly, knowing that without the soundproof door, those werewolves would hear her entire conversation.
"Hritika, is everything okay there? I was counting on my mom to help you out, but she wasn't in the right state of mind when she left for the pack. What happened? Please tell me that they didn't kill the couple," Vivaan rambled in worry.
"Why aren't you answering me?" Vivaan yelled, as his heart pounded upon not receiving any positive answer from Hritika.
"You need to give the another person at least a second to answer. How will I say anything if you keep asking questions?" Hritika yelled back.
"Sorry, sorry. I won't ask anything. You tell me according to your wish."
"They haven't been killed," Hritika answered, making him sigh in relief, "but they haven't been accepted either."
"Thought so," Vivaan muttered.
"Huh?"
"Rehyaa and I discussed the situation and we already came to a conclusion that acceptance won't be easy," Vivaan said.
"Then should we just let them become rogues?" Hritika asked in anger.
"No, we need to make the whole pack understand and accept that mates aren't always heterosexuals," Rehyaa said, after Vivaan put the phone on speaker.
"Elaborate please."
"Hritika, acceptance is going to be the another topic of our awareness programme. We will first learn and then teach them all. We need to create acceptance in our pack, before letting them know about the chef and the warrior being mates," Rehyaa explained.
Just like Yara and Vivaan, she too had heard of the same gender mates for the first time. And it was obvious that there was more to it then they realized. First they needed to learn about everything, before making plans to advocate others.
"Rehyaa that's a good plan, but it will take time. What will we do until then? We can't ask them to hide their relationship. That's too cruel, especially when they can't stay apart at all during the first month," Hritika said.
"They don't need to hide," Vivaan said, "We will accept them as Midnight pack members for now. And will make sure to create acceptance in our pack before the merger. So they can return to their home with their head held high," he vowed.
"Vivaan, I am proud of you," Hritika said, "And I am glad that You, Rehyaa and Yara are going to be the future leaders."
Just like the current leaders, these three were also caught off guard by seeing two males as mates. It was a same situation, yet the way of thinking and dealing with it was vastly different.
"Not only us Hritika, but you and Nihal are also going to become the future leaders. Our pack is blessed to have you two with us," Vivaan said to the blank screen of his mobile, having already cut the call.
Rehyaa hugged his arm, agreeing with him.
