85- Disrespect
The leaders, Vivaan and Hritika left to deal with the rogues; leaving Nihal, Yara and Rehyaa behind. Thinking that it was inappropriate for them to stay in the office without the Alpha's presence, Yara suggested that they should wait in the living room. Agreeing with her words, they stepped out of the office.
"Aaaa!!" Yara and Rehyaa shrieked while Nihal stumbled a bit, "What the hell?" he cursed, looking at Vivaan, who was suddenly in their face, breathing heavily.
"Sorry," he apologized nonchalantly to Yara and Nihal, without looking at them.
"Excuse me," he muttered, pushing Nihal sightly to stand before Rehyaa.
He took her hands in his before apologizing sincerely, "I am sorry, I made the decision to go with Hritika without thinking about you. Will you be okay? I promise that I will be back in ten minutes."
Not only the intensity of mate bond was strong because of it being the first month but they also had marked each other. Staying away was going to be difficult but Vivaan had promised to be there for Hritika.
"Don't worry about me. I will be okay. Go to your sister, she needs you right now." Rehyaa literally pushed him towards the stairs, encouraging him to leave before she changed her mind.
"Yuck! I hope we don't look this mushy while talking to Nihal," Sachi commented, looking grossed out by his bestfriend's lovey dovey talk.
"You do. Even more than what you witnessed," Yara sassed, remembering the times, Sachi made it so awkward for her.
"Whatever." Sachi huffed.
"Let's go," Nihal said, pulling Yara out of her conversation.
As they moved towards the living room, Rehyaa noticed that while the pack members bowed their heads towards her and Nihal, many of them simply ignored Yara's presence.
"Umm...you don't have to bow towards me." Nihal spoke awkwardly to the elderly, feeling out of place.
The old man chuckled, before replying, "Vivaan too refuses us to bow but it's our respect for our Alpha and his family." Turning towards Rehyaa, the old man continued, "Future Luna, I hope at least you would understand our need to bow. Please tell them to not steal away our right."
By now a little crowd had gathered. They all stopped in their works to listen to the future Luna. They knew fully well that they all were going to be in trouble for defying the orders by meeting her before the meet and greet ceremony. But their excitement made them forget about the scolding they would get.
"Of course." Rehyaa smiled sweetly, making everyone fall in love with her charms. "No one can stop you from showing your respect to the future leaders. That includes respecting our future Beta too," Rehyaa said sweetly yet pointedly.
"I understand that not many would like this. Even I was surprised but a Beta's position is not limited to the likes of people. A Beta must be the most loyal and trustworthy person to the Alpha, which she is. She is your future Alpha's choice. Disrespecting her means disrespecting Vivaan."
Everyone's head bowed down in shame, knowing that they ruined their first impression by disrespecting the future Alpha's choice. Even if they didn't like that a woman was selected as a Beta, they should have known better than to be disrespectful.
The members would have shrugged off this topic like always, only if Luna had been rude. What pained them more was that their future Luna neither raised her voice nor she forced them to like Yara. She just asked to respect her position that too in a loving motherly voice.
Everyone apologized and left, not before bowing to all three of them. In this whole ordeal, Yara and Nihal just stood quietly. Yara was actually surprised with the turn of events. She didn't know whether to feel gratitude or get jealous. She had given her all for the pack. Working for their betterment, sometimes fighting and getting hurt just to show that she was strong and what not. Her numerous efforts didn't mean anything to them but Rehyaa's soft words did the magic.
"Thank you," Yara said as whatever she felt, it didn't take away the fact that the future Luna stood up for her sake.
Nihal too thanked her, still feeling a little overwhelmed. He didn't realized how his small request could turn into such a big matter. And also cursed himself for not realizing soon that pack members were disrespectful to his mate. He needed to increase his observation skills.
