69- Children's Party

Hritika removed her windcheater, gloves, etc which were covered in silver and moved inside, following the baby's noise, glaring at the teenagers when they tried to stop her.

Her heart broke as she saw a seven/eight year old, helplessly trying to shush the crying baby. Upon noticing Hritika, the girl cowered, trying to hide herself. She covered her brother protectively and averted her gaze, waiting for the strike that never came.

Hritika's eyes closed for a second, looking at the frightened girl. She knelt down in front of the girl and tried to cajole her to look up.

"I am not going to hurt you." Hritika spoke in a soft, comforting voice; forwarding her hand for the girl to take.

It took a few tries for the girl to let go of the fear and accept Hritika's hand. The baby had now stopped crying and was looking keenly at the new face.

A gasp left Hritika's lips as she noticed the back of her palms were badly burned.

The girl pulled out her hand immediately, looking at Hritika with scared eyes.

"Let's apply medicine on it, yeah?" Hritika spoke and requested the girl to come with her.

Nihal raised his eyebrows as Hritika came out of his room with a small girl and a baby. He looked at teenagers in question but they all had their head bowed.

"Nihal, go and change your clothes or else the cold will worsen," Hritika said, noticing his shivering form.

"Anyone of you come and help me." Hritika ordered in a hurried tone as she went towards the dining table where the first-aid box was lying around.

Hritika asked the girl to sit on the chair as she took out the ointment out of the box.

Nihal too winced as she saw her hands and stopped there itself, instead of going to change.

"How did it burn so much?" Nihal asked while Naman tried to take the baby from the girl.

The girl had a firm grip on her brother, refusing to let him away from her.

"Dear, I need to check in case he too has been burned and you too need to keep your hands free for us to apply medicine." Naman told her in a gentle tone.

The girl finally relaxed her hands and gave the baby to Naman.

"What's your name?" Hritika asked her softly while blowing air on her hands ro reduce the sting of the burn.

"Raavi," she answered.

"What happened? Why did your hand get burned?" Nihal questioned after Naman assured them that the baby was alright.

Naman answered when Raavi didn't speak.

"She was using a banana leaf as an umbrella. It helped cover them fully but as her fists were holding the leaf, they came in contact with silver water and got burned."

Nihal nodded at Naman in acknowledgement and diverted his focus again on the kids. Nihal wanted to help more but left to change as Hritika scolded him again. He wouldn't have budged if Hritika had not said that staying near the baby with this cold and fever was harmful.

Nihal quickly showered and changed into dry clothes. Knowing that sleeping was out of question, he took the medicine and came back to help Hritika with kids.

As soon as Nihal came back, Naman handed him the baby and went back to join his friends.

"Why aren't they making a scene?" Vanya asked in a whisper as the whole group noticed the humans fretting over the kids.

"Maybe because Raavi's hands were burned. They might yell at us after applying the medicine to her." Misha guessed with a shrug.

They all talked in low whispers, so that Hritika and Nihal wouldn't hear them.

"Or it might be because they don't even know that those kids are not the members of our pack," Mia said, as she looked at the humans with folded arms.

"Huh? What do you mean?" Vanya was the one who asked but everyone looked at Mia with questioning eyes.

"They are humans, who do not have the ability to distinguish between a pack member and a rogue." Mia explained.

"So we are safe." Misha concluded with a smile.

"Only if Yara does not come here," Naman said, making everyone groan.

"Why would she? I mean it's still raining?" Mia asked with a nonchalant shrug.

"We thought the same for these two " Naman retorted, pointing towards the humans.

"Where is Yara? She didn't come with you?" Mia asked Nihal, faking curiosity to know if the future Beta had any plans to return home.

"She will be staying at the pack house, until rain stops," Hritika simply answered, making the teenagers sigh in relief.

The stiffness in their body vanished and they came closer to the dining table.

"Is there any food? We all are hungry," Rehan asked while patting his stomach.

Others too followed his actions, making Hritika roll her eyes.

"I will make something for you all. So just wait and don't make a ruckus," Hritika said, standing up.

Nihal too stood up in order to help Hritika.

"Nihal, do you know what to feed the babies?" Hritika asked while biting her nails in worry.

"Milk?" Nihal responded unsurely.

"Just search on the google." Hritika suggested, not wanting to harm the baby because of her lack of knowledge.

"We should felicitate the mobile. It has helped save so many lives today. And now, we even need it to feed the baby." Nihal remarked with a chuckle.

Teenagers were shocked upon seeing a feast instead of a plain meal they were expecting and started barfing down the food. Raavi first fed the baby and then ate her share hesitantly, looking like she was doing a crime by eating nice food.

"Sorry," she apologized as she had made a mess while eating. Having lived in a forest, she had little to no knowledge about eating with spoons and forks.

Hritika waved off her apology with a smile and helped Raavi to eat.

After eating teenagers moved towards the living room to watch television, taking Raavi and the baby with them too as Hritika and Nihal cleaned the mess.

"Our housewarming party has turned into a children's party," he commented as he picked up the utensils.

Hritika chuckled agreeing with him. No one had imagined that such a situation would arise.
