59- Waste of Time and Energy

One month passed by, bringing so many changes in everyone's life. Now the pack had somehow got accustomed to the new entries. Although many pack members still didn't like humans, Nihal and Hritika were no longer the outsiders.

As their new house was being built, they were continuously seen moving to and fro between the pack house and their new home. Now that they weren't cooped up in their rooms, their interaction with other members increased.

While Nihal and Hritika were finally coming out of their room, Yara seemed to be on the first floor for the major part of the day. If not for Nihal then for Vivaan.

There was a tremendous development in Nihal and Yara/Sachi's relationship too. As Sachi was sad because she missed the regular runs with Joy, who was currently unable to get up from his bed, Nihal worked as his proxy. Although as a human, Nihal couldn't run that fast, Sachi's heart was at content. Daily running with Sachi or sometimes walking with Yara, reduced their previous awkwardness, bringing a sense of calm in their relationship.

Although a little late, Alina with her parents came to show their gratitude towards Hritika for saving Alina. Along with homemade baked cookies, Hritika also received a piece of information from Alina, because of which Hritika was now here - knocking at the door of Vivaan's room.

"Hritika? You here?" asked a surprised voice.

It was Yara who opened the door. From the looks of it, they were working on something as the papers and books were scattered all around the bed, where Vivaan sat in the middle.

"May I come in? I have something that can help you," Hritika said.

"Oh, sure," Yara answered with uncertainty, while moving aside to let Hritika in.

"I heard that your plan to help the bullied people failed," Hritika started, without beating around the bush.

"Plan; more like plans. Others were discarded by the leaders even before we could apply them. This was the only one that passed their scrutiny but failed majorly as the pack members started troubling the people who came forward to complain." Yara huffed, joining Hritika after she closed the door.

"Are you here to make fun of our failure?" Vivaan grumbled, looking like a kicked puppy.

"I have an idea that may work. We use it in our company and many other companies use it too." Hritika spoke, ignoring Vivaan's grumbling.

With his current health along with failure of the plan, it was clear that he was in bad mood and there was no use of fighting with him now.

"Idea? What is it? All ideas are welcome. Come, sit comfortably and tell us," Yara exclaimed excitedly, while picking the books to make space for Hritika to speak.

"Grievance Box," Hritika stated after taking a seat on the bed, the books and papers making a divide between Vivaan and her.

Hritika sighed, looking at the confused faces of Yara and Vivaan.

"It's a box with a little opening where you can put down the paper or envelopes that contain your complaints, without writing your identity. People can put down their complaints through that opening and you can find them out after you open the locked door type area of the box. You will receive the problems of the pack members without knowing who wrote it," Hritika explained.

"That's...that's a great idea!!" Yara jumped up in joy.

"What if anyone sees a pack member near the grievance box? They will know that the said member made some complaint," Vivaan asked as a second thought.

Hritika nodded at his query and started thinking of a possible solution for it.

"How about we place the grievance box in between the vending machine? No one will know if the pack member is there to get a cold drink/candy or to make a complaint." Yara suggested nervously.

"Awesome...Oww", Vivaan clapped in excitement, but later regretted as pain shot up in his arm.

"Careful."

"Careful."

Both Yara and Hritika muttered at a same time, before chuckling at the situation.

"I will talk to Alpha about this, "Vivaan said and turned towards Hritika, "Thanks."

Hritika replied with a head nod and stood up to leave.

"Hritika," Yara called out and spoke as soon as Hritika stopped to face her.

"Do you have ideas about awareness programmes too?" Yara inquired bashfully.

Vivaan too looked at her attentively, hoping for some good ideas.

"Don't rush it," Hritika answered making them furrow their eyebrows.

"What I mean is that doing everything at a same time will not only confuse the pack members but also irritate them," Hritika said.

"Should we just drop the idea then?" Vivaan asked with a frown.

Hritika shook her head and explained her point properly.

"Receive the complaints first and see which topic needs to be addressed urgently and then work upon it, instead of going all out. There are thousands of things which needs to be brought up and made everyone aware of. Just select the topics where pack member's old values and beliefs are causing harm to the pack."

Vivaan and Yara nodded with serious expression on their face as understanding dawned on them.

"Thank you so much for your help." Vivaan spoke sincerely.

Hritika smiled in response and moved to leave. She had just placed her one foot outside the room's door when she turned to face him again.

"Vivaan," she called out as Vivaan had already started making a rough copy of their plan.

"Yes?" He asked, looking up from his book.

"What's the use of doing so much for the pack when you won't even live to see it working? Correct me if I am wrong, but this intense training you are doing, isn't it for the Alpha position?" Hritika asked, looking genuinely worried for his health.

"Yes, you are right. I am doing this for the Alpha's position. Just so that, I could be prepared if Nihal changes his mind or accidentally commands me while trying to save you from an attacker." Vivaan blurted out the truth.

There was something about Hritika which made him trust her to speak out the truth he was hiding for about a month.

"Then you should start training your whole pack. The council just wants to see if Nihal can command or not. It doesn't have to be on you. What's the use of being able to neglect his command when Nihal can just command any other pack member, if he does change his mind. And in case someone attacks me, Nihal would command that attacker not you unless it is you who is going to harm me."

Hritika's words hit like bullets to Vivaan. She was right. They didn't consider these things. Whatever they had worked for, the training, the pain, everything was nothing but a waste of time and energy.
