48- Explanation
The worry for Hritika and the sound of muffled cries from Yara were causing Nihal to twist and turn in the small space of couch, which eventually lead to his fall. He yelled out in pain as he fell on the floor, hurting the whole right side of his body.
His shout caused Yara to jump up from the bed. "Are you okay?" She asked as she joined his side to help him get up.
After innumerable efforts from both Yara and his side, he finally managed to get up from his sprawled position.
Yara guided him a little and they both were able to sit him up on the floor with the couch supporting his back.
Her question already forgotten among the ooh's and oww's of his pain.
Nihal finally looked at her properly to see tears streaming down her face as she tried to ease his pain.
"Stop crying," he muttered in a hoarse voice.
Yara quickly wiped her face with the back of her hand, though it was quite useless as another round of tears kept coming.
"Don't worry about me. Where does it hurt? Should I call our pack doctor to look into your condition?" She asked, not meeting Nihal's eyes.
Sighing, he stopped her hands which were trying to rub his forearm in comfort and took them in his hold.
Even if her hands were held by him, Yara was still stubborn to look at him.
"Hey! Look at me." Nihal tried to coax her gently.
"I don't understand why are you even crying? Heck, I didn't even say a word to you then just whyyy?"
Nihal groaned out, losing his patience, only to receive louder sobs in response.
"Yara..."
"Yara..."
"Give the control to Sachi." Nihal sighed, as he received no other response from Yara.
"What?" Sachi asked sniffling.
"You too?" Nihal groaned.
"We both are one," Sachi responded.
Even though not by much but her cries had now turned into sniffles. That gave some hope to Nihal.
"Why are you both crying? I didn't shout at you," Nihal asked.
This situation had just taken a toll on him. He didn't know what to do or how to react. He had already made her cry twice in their one day relationship.
"That's the problem. We weren't important enough for you to get angry on us."
Sachi's reply left Nihal dumbfounded.
"Wait a second. Did you just...you mean you both are crying...you are upset that I didn't yell at you." What had started out as a question turned into a statement as Nihal realized the complicated mind of his mate.
"I didn't know that worrying about your health meant that you weren't important enough." Nihal remarked with a shake of his head.
"Huh?"
"You have been sick for more than a week and even fainted in the morning. I didn't yell at you thinking that it will worsen your health. You just don't shout at a patient. That's a common courtesy," Nihal explained with a deadpan look.
Sachi was quick enough to give back the control to Yara.
"You did not just do that." Yara internally screamed.
"Oops," Yara mumbled in embarrassment, looking sheepishly at Nihal.
Nihal chuckled at Sachi's antics before responding to Yara. "You can stop crying now," Nihal said and tried to get up.
He soon tumbled down on the floor, loosing his balance. Fortunately, Yara broke his fall, saving him from another round of pain.
"Keep seated. What's the hurry?" She chastised.
"Sorry," he apologized in a low voice.
They sat in silence for a few seconds as both were busy with their thoughts.
"Now I remember that you were about to yell and stopped midway," Yara recalled.
"If only you had remembered it before, you would saved so many precious tears." Nihal teased, receiving an embarrassed smile in return.
"I was really angry but now as I have calmed down, I think your reaction was expected. So much has happened today, it made me forget that we have been together just for a day and not for some months. It's obvious you wouldn't believe Hritika's words unless some evidence was provided."
"But I did," Yara said.
"Huh?"
"I was rude to her before, but I believed Hritika's words when she said that she was actually trying to help. I didn't need the verification from the kids. Yes, I am guilty of assuming that she was at fault and being rude to her but I did believe her," Yara said sincerely.
Nihal smiled in gratitude. "Yara, I am sorry if my actions hurt you. Hritika is not only my cousin but my whole family. I can't take it when someone hurts her." Nihal apologized as well as tried to explain his side.
"Don't be, I understand. This ordeal has also taught me to listen to every side before making a judgment. So, it wasn't entirely a bad thing." Yara smiled. She then stood up and helped Nihal stand up as well.
"You sleep on the bed." she suggested as she looked at his painful posture.
"No, it's fine. I can...." He tried to deny but her stern eyes stopped him.
"But...how can you sleep on the couch? I mean it's your own room." Nihal tried again.
"You were ready to sleep on the floor of your room for me. I at least have the couch." Yara counter-backed.
"But..."
He tried to protest again but Yara's words made him shut his mouth in an instant.
"Would you rather have me share the bed with you? Trust me, I wouldn't mind," She asked with raised eyebrows.
It didn't look like she was bluffing, so Nihal silently went to bed, stopping all his protests.
Yara chuckled a bit before moving towards the couch.
"Please switch off the lights." Yara requested as the switch was near the bed.
Nihal did as requested and closed his eyes. He prayed that both Hritika and Yara slept peacefully, before going to sleep.
Whereas, one part of his prayer was fruitful, another turned out to be a huge failure. Having sorted out everything, Yara slept with a wide smile on her face while Hritika was happy that her room was soundproof or else the whole pack would have witnessed her breakdown.
