40- Hierarchy
Hritika decided to take a stroll through the pack until Nihal and Yara were done with their talk.
While moving around aimlessly she heard some hooting noises from a nearby alley.
At first, she decided to ignore it and turned to another direction but then she heard someone's cry for help. Hritika stopped in her steps, unable to decide what to do.
Her curiosity got the best of her and she went to see what was going on. As she rounded the corner, she saw a few teenagers picking on a crying girl of their own age. Calling out names, booing at her, kicking her and what not.
She was already fuming as Vivaan had outsmarted her and this scenario just fueled her anger.
"Hey!!" She shouted, moving towards them.
The teenagers first stilled at the sudden intrusion but their smirks grew as they realized that it was just a human.
"Stop bullying or you will face the consequences." Hritika scolded with stern eyes.
A tall boy from the group snorted. "Consequences? Oh! I am so afraid." He mocked, while his gang laughed.
"Look guys, a filthy human has come to save the runt. What a pair!!" A girl chuckled, putting her hands on Hritika's shoulders with a smirk.
It didn't take a second for the smirk to turn into a painful wail as Hritika removed the girl's hand from her shoulder and twisted it.
"Leave her you bitch." Their friends shouted in outrage.
"Bitch? I think that term suits you well seeing that it was the original term used for female dogs and female wolves." Hritika retorted, finally letting go of the girl's hand.
The girl rubbed her hand, trying to ease out the pain.
"Don't celebrate your victory. It was just because I wasn't suspecting an attack. Don't forget that you are weaker than us in strength and we can easily overpower you." The girl snarled.
Hritika looked at the bullied girl who had curled into herself, whimpering slowly. Hritika hinted to run away with her eyes. The girl shook her head a few times but fortunately agreed to do so. As everyone's attention was now on Hritika, the bullied girl managed to run away without alerting anyone.
"Looks like the human has got tongue-tied. Aww, poor her." Another one from their group tutted.
"What did you say? I am weaker than you." Hritika snorted.
"Of course. You all are. You filthy humans are nothing in front of our species." The tall guy from before boasted.
"Then why are you all hiding and we are roaming freely?" Hritika's simple question was enough for them to drop their smirks.
"Why do you all fear so much about exposing yourself to humans? If I am correct then that was the main reason I was brought here. Just so that your existence won't come out. If you are so strong, then humans should fear coming out in front of you, not the other way round."
Now, it was Hritika's time to tut at them.
"Admit it, that even with your powers to shift, you are nothing in front of us. We might be weaker in strength but our mental capability is so much stronger than you. You are hiding because you know that the moment humans come to know about your existence, you will end up becoming our lab rats for experiment."
Few of them went silent but others were enraged.
"Gosh! You talk so much. Lab rats? We aren't that weak. We are wild animals, who are feared by humans." Another guy snarled.
As soon as he finished talking, everyone from his group pulled out their claws, trying to harm Hritika, but her other words made them freeze in their tracks.
"Careful. The moment I get harmed, your identity would get exposed to the human world. And yes, many of us fear wild animals but there are also some who keep them as pets. Stay in your limits, or it would be solely your fault when your species would end up in a zoo or circus for the entertainment of us 'filthy humans'." Hritika threatened.
More than the threat, the confidence with which she gave out the threat, made the teenagers believe her. This wasn't an empty threat. They knew humans had lions, tigers, elephants and many other animals perform in circuses.
"There's a reason why humans are at the top of the hierarchy."
With the last comment, Hritika moved out of the alley.
