20- Grief
Luna Mahira and Vivaan had chosen to let out their grief in the midst of the forest, where no one would come and see them.
Shifting to their wolves, they gave the wolves full reins, allowing them to run at their fastest speed.
Reva, Luna Mahira's wolf leapt forward, catching an unsuspecting deer. She mercilessly attacked him, throwing chunks of his skin away in aggression.
Usually, Reva tried to minimize the hurt she caused on her food but today was different. She didn't have any patience left to wait and be stealthy for her kill.
Joy came to an abrupt stop upon looking at his mother destroying the deer. He knew she would regret it later but he didn't stop her, knowing that this was the only way she could let off her steam.
He waited for her to finish and then nudged her with his head towards the water stream.
Reva finally came out of her killing spree and looked at what she had done. With her paws she dug up the soil and buried the remains of the deer, before leaving the area with Joy.
Upon reaching the stream, Reva went and washed off her bloodied jaws before shifting into her human form. She picked out a T-shirt from the pile of spare clothes kept near the rocks, while Vivaan too changed into a spare track pant.
Throughout the forest, many spare clothes were kept so that pack members didn't have to carry clothes whenever they wanted to have a run.
Changing into those clothes, Vivaan and Luna Mahira climbed up the rock and sat down quietly, overlooking the flow of water. They didn't need words to know that the other was hurting as they silently provided comfort to each other.
Luna Mahira had pretty much guessed that something was up with the Alpha when she didn't receive any love from him in all these years. He gave her freedom, respect and was a great friend but he never loved her. A love that she was expecting from her mate.
She knew that he was telling the truth about not cheating on her or else she would have felt it. It was rare for a mate to cheat but when they did, their partner would immediately feel the heartache, informing them about their soulmate's misdeeds.
Luna Mahira never felt that, so she was sure that he didn't physically cheat her but emotionally he did. He cheated on her, not once, not twice but for all the years they had been together. He was just there with them but his heart longed for his human wife and child.
In all these years, she had made peace with the fact that he would never treat her as his mate nor he would treat Vivaan as his son but now it wasn't just her intuition, it was her reality.
Guessing that her mate was in love with someone else had hurt her heart but the pain was nowhere near the pain she felt after having concrete proof. Mahira knew that it wasn't the human's fault yet she couldn't stop herself from hating them.
And more than her, she hated herself for not making Vivaan ready for this blow. She had guessed the situation yet she kept him in the dark. She let him believe that it was just how his father was. She let Vivaan believe that being an Alpha had hardened his heart and his love for the pack could not let Aarjav think Vivaan as anything more than a future Alpha.
Her heart cried knowing that her son's life had taken a ugly turn. On the way to find the fraudster, he found out about the fraud his father had committed. If that pain wasn't enough then his position of an Alpha heir was also at risk.
Luna Mahira knew that position didn't matter to him but the fact that the human wasn't capable of leading his pack, would never let him sleep in peace.
He had trained his whole childhood to become an Alpha that his pack members would be proud of. He had so many plans that he wanted to implement for their betterment, only for a human, who knew nothing about their needs, to take over. Vivaan's years of practice were going to go down the drain.
Even though the difference in capability was visible to everyone, the fact that the human was Alpha's first son along with the power to use an Alpha command, there was no way Vivaan would win this battle. One command from the human would be enough to make Vivaan dance on his terms.
She wasn't well off with her information on humans but as far as she knew, they were greedy creatures. Chances of Aarjav's human son not taking over the power he was bestowed on was slim and there was nothing she could do to prevent that from happening.
