18- Awkward

Hritika entered the room to find Nihal sitting crossed legged on the bed, absentmindedly staring at the wall. Heaving a sigh, she sat down beside him silently.

As Hritika sat, the bed dipped a little, pulling Nihal's attention towards her. Smiling sadly, he caressed her head.

"Are you okay now? You scared the hell out of me when you fainted," he asked, looking concerned.

Humming, Hritika rested her head on his shoulders.

"How were you able to stand after seeing those monsters? I didn't know that you were so courageous," Hritika commented.

"Courageous? I was on the verge of peeing myself. The only reason I was standing firmly was to protect you," Nihal answered with a shake of his head.

"Dammit!!" Hritika sprang up, moving her head away as a thought crossed her mind.

Nihal raised his eyebrows at her sudden action.

"How much ever we are hurt by Uncle, we should have atleast thanked him for saving our lives from those wolves who leapt at us," Hritika spoke, biting her lips.

Nihal didn't want to but knowing that his cousin won't be at peace until she thanks him, he stood up with a sigh.

"Whoa!! Okay sorry. Please come back here," Hritika apologized, mistaking his sigh to be of anger.

"I thought you wanted to thank him. Let's see if he is still outside," Nihal clarified with a roll of his eyes.

Hitting the back of her head at her stupidity, Hritika stood up to hug Nihal happily.

They both winced as they saw the condition of the living area. The fallen paintings, broken glass, scratched couch, cracked walls with blood splattered all over it, last but not the least the room's door that was unhinged by those werewolves.

"Are we going to pay for these repairs?" Nihal asked, raising one eyebrow, putting his hands on his waist.

"Why should we? We weren't the ones who broke it," Hritika answered with a shrug.

"Looks like Uncle left," Hritika commented with a pout on her face.

"Don't worry. You will get the chance to show your gratitude when we meet him during that court thingy," Nihal comforted, patting her shoulder.

Hritika hummed and gestured towards the two buff males that were standing guard near the door, well where the door was supposed to be before all these fiasco.

"Aah! Along with meeting strange creatures, we will also get the opportunity to experience house arrest. We are officially prisoners," Nihal muttered, throwing his hands up in frustration.

Before Hritika could say anything, her stomach grumbled loudly, reminding them about the dinner plans they had made, before all this escalated.

"Do we have some snacks here? If not, we are going to sleep with an empty stomach," Hritika asked, patting her stomach sadly.

One of the guys by the door turned towards them and spoke in a stiff voice.

"Restaurant across the road is still open. You can go and have your meal there."

"But those guys said that everyone from the town were told to leave," Hritika portrayed her confusion, albeit a little hesitantly.

The other guy huffed in exasperation.

"Only humans were evacuated. Werewolves are still here. Go and eat. We have sensitive ears and your stomach is growling quite loudly."

His comment made Hritika blush in embarrassment. She so wanted to punch him but knowing their reality, she wouldn't be surprised if she broke her fingers while punching him.

Concealing their anger, Nihal and Hritika moved out of the room. Situation turned much worse as they left the hotel. The angry glares of everyone unnerved them.

"Let's just go back," Nihal said, clutching Hritika's hand in fear of getting attacked.

"We are under strict orders. No one is going to harm you," came a voice from behind.

They turned to see that the guards by their hotel room had followed them.

Nodding lightly, Nihal and Hritika walked towards the restaurant with their eyes downcast, not wanting to see those angry stares.

They awkwardly had their meal while those warriors stood behind them like shadows.
