Chapter 10 - Traitor, Doug Hasten
A few miles away from the pack meeting, Kris stood in front of a Gun Shop, ears perking upwards as her heightened senses picked up the shouts of the Alphas. They may have been in a Sound-Cancellation Room, but the windows, which there was 3 of them, weren't voice cancelled.
Kris quirked a eyebrow at the mediocre sign hanging above the gun store, clearly stating that they sold guns by displayed two rifles on each side, pointing to the name of the store 'DOUG'S GUNS!!!' In exclamatory fashion with big bold black lettering. Kris sighed, tuning out the faint angry shouts made by the Alphas miles away before pushing open the door, a bell ringing to announce her arrival. She walked up to the cash register, only a few other customers roaming the aisles, browsing the fire arms in interest and envy. She looked around to see all of the assortments of fire arms hanging up on the wall behind the register, all of them allowed in the state of Michigan. Kris' eyes made their way to the buzzer that had a little sign beside it stating 'Buzz and we will be with you shortly!'. With a sigh, Kris pushed the buzzer, a slight buzzing noise that sounded exactly like a honey bee when it gets to close to your ear. Or worse, gets stuck in your hair.
Annoyingly, the buzzer sounded throughout the store, annoying the other customers extremely. After a moment or so, a plump middle aged man jogged from the back, huffing and puffing from the small jog he went through. Wearing a Hunting Cap and overalls, the man looked Kris up and down in curiosity, not used to getting much female customers that were alone and not dragged into his little gun shop
"Hey there little lady, what ya looking for today?" The man, named Doug Hasten, asked Kris who hummed, tapping her chin with her index finger
"Well, I was looking for something easy to conceal but has a good kick." Kris stated, making her voice higher than her normal tone. Doug nodded, thinking for a moment scratching his beard that reached his shoulder before going over to one of the displays, picking up a small revolver
"This here is an Taurus Revolver, exactly what you are looking for little lady." Doug handed the revolver to Kris, her acting like it was heavier than it really was. Acting as a weak young woman to give off that impression to Doug. Doug smiled kindly, dimples showing. Doug sniffed before continuing
"Ya know how to use a firearm?"
"Not really sir, you see my family members have been pestering me about arming myself incase something happens." Doug lightly laughed before coming around the counter, standing behind Kris as he positioned her the correct way to hold the gun
"Now, don't have your finger on the trigger until your sure little lady." Kris nodded, cringing at his wrong use of grammar. She aimed the revolver at a empty water bottle before pressing down the trigger, a click going off due to the fact that the revolver was empty
"I will take it, and you're. Doug Tim Hasten." Doug froze, eyes widening. How did she know his full name? His middle name nonetheless. Kris turned around, aiming the gun at Doug menacingly with a smirk. Doug put his hands up in surrender, laughing nervously at her
"Now now, let's not get ahead of ourselves." Doug told Kris who chuckled darkly
"Do not worry Hasten, because as you already know, all guns in this very store aren't loaded, including this one. Name is Jones, I am here because you have given me and the community false information." Doug gulped, paranoia overfilling him as the empty revolver aimed at him
"Community? What do you mean by commu-" Kris threw the empty revolver off to the side, pupils dilating in annoyance before stalking towards him, grabbing hold of his shirt collar, coming face to face with him, noses barely touching
"May The Hunt Stay Within." Doug's eyes widened to the size of an cantaloupe, shock and fear displaying on his features. Kris' eyes flashed olive green before lifting Doug off of the ground using her werewolf strength. Kris smirked in triumph at Doug's anguish, a unmistakable odor reaching her nostrils. She wrinkled her nose in disgust, now knowing this grown man just wet himself, soaking his crotch with urine
"Hmph, now Doug I need answers, answers as to why only a few of the Rogue Packs were listed on the list and others giving false information, tell me!" Kris ordered, snarling at the inside info who had betrayed her and the Hunter Community. Doug bit down on his bottom lip, practically shaking like a chihuahua in fear of what Kris may do if he didn't spill the brand to her. After a few moments of silence, Kris grew tired of Doug and the smell of urine. She growled, slamming him down on the counter, shocking him immensely at her unpredictable action. Kris grabbed her butterfly knife out of her pocket, switching the blade up and pressing it to his cheek, hard enough not to draw blood. With gritted teeth, losing her patience with him
"Hasten, if you do not tell me I will have no choice but to hand you over to my superiors, and trust me, they aren't as merciful as I am." Kris informed him, gritting her teeth in frustration. Before Doug could react, the sound of a bell went off, signaling someone had just walked into the gun shop. The cocking of a gun reached Kris' ears having her curse in annoyance for the interruption, the scent of rot filling her senses
"Great, just great."
"Looks like we got a Hunter here, You alright Hasten, did this puny Hunter hurt you?" The Rogue behind her asked, his voice in a teasing tone towards Doug. Doug chuckled nervously, carefully shaking his head slowly to not draw any blood from Kris's Butterfly Knife pressing into his neck, if applied more pressure she would have slit his throat
"No. I'm fine, she is just mad that I gave her false information is all." Doug stated, confirming Kris's suspicions
"So I was correct, you are secretly working with Rogues." Kris felt the barrel of a pistol pressing into the middle of her back, hot nasty breath breathing down her neck. One of the customers, who seemed was going to check out, walked up to them before screaming in terror, dropping her things before running out the door, soon others following after her, leaving the three alone in the gun shop. The Rogue rolled his eyes, before speaking
"Why yes, now let's make a deal shall we? You get to leave quietly unharmed if you let me and Hasten go our merry ways. Or do you feel like dieing today, hmm?" Kris smirked, eyes flashing olive green. Kris lightly shrugged before releasing her hold on Doug sighed in relief, rubbing his neck before turning around to look at Kris and the Rogue behind her, noticing Kris' different colored eyes and the playful smirk etched on her lips. Doug's eyes widened once he saw canines, realizing that wasn't just a mere human girl
"Hmm, I would rather not, you see it's my job to kill Rogues, my main job even. So, say goodbye dear one." Before the Rogue could react, Kris swung around stabbing her butterfly knife into the Rogue's side, causing him to howl in pain. Kris ducked once he swung a fist at her, bring her right foot and tripping him over, grabbing her special silver dual knives, throwing one over at Doug, catching his sleeve and pinning him down onto the counter. As Doug struggled to get out of the knife's grip, Kris sliced the Rogue's throat, knowing that she won't be able to get any information out of him. Kris stood up, wiping the blood on the Rogue's jacket before turning her attention towards Doug, leaning to the side with a hand on her hip, flipping the knife up in the air before catching it
"So Doug Hasten, do you want my mercy or do you want my leaders mercy?" Kris asked, clicking her tongue, smiling like a mad man. Doug shivered, closing his eyes tightly with his lips quivering in fear
"Your mercy."
"Good, was that so hard now?" Kris' eye color turned back to normal, her canines becoming no more
"What the hell are you?!"
"A great magician never reveals her secrets." Kris grabbed her flip phone from her back pocket before flipping it and dialing a number, waiting for her superior to pick up
"I have the traitor in custody sir."
"Any casualties?"
"One. A mere Rogue that was stupid enough to think he could mess with me."
"Understand Agent, be there in 5." The line went dead, Kris smirking in satisfaction before closing the flip phone and placing it back into her pocket, police sirens going off in the distance
"My mercy, is that you will be able to live for a few more hours if I hand you over to my superiors. Their mercy to you is up to them. Time for me to leave, nice meeting you and have fun." Kris winked before turning on her heel, about ready to walk out of the gun shop, stepping over the dead body of the Rogue
"Wait! Please, have mercy-"
"Mercy you say? Haven't I already told you, mercy comes in different forms, mine is that your undying death will not be caused by me, but others. Understood? Good, I will take my leave then, I have better things to do than this." Kris walked out of the gun, the sound of the bell going off ringing in Doug's ears. Kris saw the police cars fast approaching, just as they parked abruptly in the street in front of the small gun shop, Kris waved at the Head Police Officer, still holding her knife in her other hand
"Make sure I get my special weapon back! I just got it!" Kris stated before climbing into her car and started the ignition. The Head Police Officer nodded in confirmation before running into the gun shop to 'arrest' Doug and take care of the dead body. Kris sighed, yawning tiredly
"Well that was eventful. Time to continue what I was originally doing." Kris pulled out of the parking lot before driving away, tapping her steering wheel as she happily hummed to herslef in success.
