The Reception
Mr and Mrs Potter, James loved the sound of it so much that he kept reciting it in his head after the ceremony came to an end. Perhaps it was a bit cliché to claim that he felt like the luckiest man in the world, but he didn't care. He truly felt as though everything had fallen into place for him finally. After years of hardship, having to grow up fast during the times of wars and losing himself to the darkness for quite some time, James had found the light at the end of the tunnel and it came in the form of Renata.
Somehow, a beautiful woman with an equally beautiful heart had found him and Harry, completing their family once again. They had their ups and downs, but it was what made their relationship so strong in the long run. Despite all the chaos they had endured together, James wouldn't have traded it for anything in the world because everything had turned out right in the end. He had a wife, who he loved dearly and Harry had a mother, who was going to protect him and love him with all of her being.
At the end of the ceremony, while everyone came over to congratulate the couple, James swore he felt something warm touch the side of his face, and for a split second, smelled what he knew had been Lily's perfume. He took it as her blessing and well wishes that he continued to find happiness because she knew that it would be better for Harry's upbringing. They had both made promises once Harry was born that they would do anything for him, and it was just their luck that they found someone else willing to do the same.
Thanking Lily for all the wonderful memories, James stole a glance up to the skies before turning to Renata, who was currently crouched down surrounded by Harry, Neville, Huxley, and Ron, all of them marvelling at her dress that Sirius had worked so incredibly hard on. Meanwhile, Sirius and Adelmo were holding onto each other, both of them attempting to fight back their tears but steadily losing the battle.
Remus had found his way to McGonagall, the two happily chatting away in the company of each other. Augusta and the Weasley family gathered around them as well, Molly blessing both James and Renata with strong kisses to the sides of their faces.
And finally, it was time for the reception, where everyone could gather for a nice meal and some dancing for the rest of the day. James held out his hand to his wife, waiting until Renata glanced up at him. As soon as she met his gaze, she took his hand but also took the opportunity to take off the heels that she had been wearing the entire time.
"I tell you what," she said leaning into him, " Sirius makes it look far too easy. I envy people who can walk in heels for hours."
Of course, Renata taking off her shoes led the children to believe that it was time to take off theirs as well. And before any of the adults could say anything, they were all barefoot and racing off into the grass.
"You could have come down the aisle barefoot, I wouldn't have minded at all," James told her, "but if your feet hurt allow me to help."
She furrowed her brow in confusion but only for a second before she found herself lifted off her feet, being carried in James' arms. He smiled down at her, looking all too proud of himself at the moment. She was about to tell him that she thought it was a tradition for the bride to be carried the threshold, but instead, Renata simply gave a shrug of her shoulders and draped her arms around his neck.
However, just when she thought she was being carried to the reception area at the side of the cottage, she was mistaken as James allowed everyone to go ahead, and he carried her inside.
"Uh, James, where are we going?" Renata asked. "The food and the dancefloor are that way."
"I know," he said, pushing the door open and walking inside, " but you know, I didn't get to see you all day, and I know that once we're at the reception that everyone is going to be pulling us in different directions. I just wanted to steal a few minutes with you, that's all."
Renata didn't admit it, but she thought James' initial intentions were down the route of cheekiness, but once he explained, she was more than glad to sit with him for a few minutes in the comfort of their living room.
Leone had not been involved in the wedding, mainly because the old kneazle did not respond well to loads of activity, so it was best that he remained inside. As Renata and James sat on one of the sofas, he made his way over slowly before Renata pulled him into her lap.
"Can you believe we're actually married?" Renata asked James.
"I can believe it now," he said, " although when I woke up this morning I had to keep questioning if I was truly awake or still dreaming. But it's official now, Mrs Potter. Does it feel weird when I call you that?"
"No," Renata answered, " it feels right."
Enjoying the peaceful time together for several minutes, the newlyweds knew they needed to get back to their guests. They were sure that Molly was holding down everything with making sure that everyone had a plate to eat but it was time for her to actually sit down and enjoy herself. Placing Leone down on one of the pillows, Renata stood up first before offering her hands to James to pull him up. He didn't need any assistance, but he gladly took both of her hands so that when he did stand up, he could pull her closer to him.
"Ready to share in our first dance as husband and wife?"
"Well, just as long as you're still okay with the idea that I still dance like a hippogriff on fire."
"My skills as a plastered deer haven't improved either, so I think we're safe."
He brought her in and placed a kiss to her forehead, before leading the way back outside. As soon as the couple approached the tent where everyone was seated, they rose to their feet and applauded them. Renata became slightly red in the face, feeling slightly odd that people she knew so well were clapping for them. But she managed to shake it off as James led her all the way to the centre of the dancefloor and nodded in the direction of Sirius, who was more than eager to start the music.
Fortunately, for both terrible dancers, no one had to witness their moves as the first song was something slow. All they needed to do was hold onto each other and sway to the music. James remained careful to not step on her toes, while Renata attempted to remain balanced.
"So you know, despite everyone bringing it up, you and I haven't discussed a place for our honeymoon," James whispered in her ear. He watched with a grin as Renata looked away bashfully as if suddenly everyone in the area could hear them.
"Did you have a place in mind?" she answered him.
"No, just as long as I'm with you, I'm fine with going anywhere. Sirius and Adelmo already agreed to watch Harry, just as long as we gave them a bit of notice. So really, we could go anywhere. Anywhere you'd like to go?"
Renata couldn't think of a place at the top of her head. She always told herself when she was younger that she wanted to venture out and see the world, but never really came up with a place to start. But then it came to her as she looked up at him, her eyes twinkling in thought.
"Didn't you say that you wanted to take me to Hogsmeade? Can we start there? Maybe I could see Hogwarts from a distance."
"Yes, of course, we can start there," James said. "I think you'll love it."
They continued to sway along, every so often one of them would lean in for a kiss, only pulling away when they needed a proper breath. James would whisper a few things in her ear to make her laugh, while Renata whispered things to make him blush. And finally, when the song came to an end, Renata felt a tug at the bottom of her dress bringing her to look down.
Harry was at her side, asking to join in on the fun of sharing a dance with his mother. James took a step back to allow the first mother and son dance at the wedding before Renata lifted Harry up.
While Harry and Renata danced, others joined them such as Molly, who danced with both Fred and George, while Percy danced with Ginny, and Augusta danced with Neville. Eventually, Remus asked McGonagall to dance and even though she refused at first, she gave in after a bit. Arthur, on the other hand, had been through a long day and within minutes, had fallen asleep in his chair and everyone decided it was best to let the poor man rest.
Before Sirius could ask Adelmo to dance with him, he made his way over to James, who was settled down in a chair watching everyone around him.
"So, did you and Renata decide on a place for the honeymoon yet?"
"Hogsmeade," James smiled, "that's where she wanted to go."
"Really? Hogsmeade? I know we liked the place as kids, but out of every place in the world-"
"She didn't get to experience Hogsmeade, Sirius, " James reminded him, " she didn't get the Hogwarts Experience like the rest of us. Besides, it's a nice village, up in the mountains, I'm sure she's going to love every second of it and I loved Hogsmeade growing up. If you have a better place in mind when you and Adelmo get married, you can go wherever you like."
"Well, that's only if we have plans to leave the bedroom-"
"Argh, Sirius, could you not for just one moment-"
"And now that we're on the topic," Sirius interrupted, " I expect another niece or nephew out of this honeymoon. Harry told me that he wanted a brother or a sister."
He sounded demanding but at the same time, James knew that Sirius was only partially serious about the whole "having children" ordeal. It was never set in stone that a honeymoon would result in a child and James knew that he and Renata had plenty of time if that was something they wished to pursue.
"Doesn't Harry have enough siblings?" James questioned. "After all, he has Huxley, Ron, and Neville, not to mention, he has you for a little brother."
"Oh, haha, James, you're lucky it's your wedding or I would kick your arse."
"Will you quit harassing the groom?" Adelmo's voice cut in and suddenly, Sirius was pulled away. James looked up to see his brother in law shoot him a wink before he dragged Sirius out onto the dance floor.
When James finally returned to the dance floor for the evening, he held Harry in his arms, his son was on the verge of passing out from all the events of the day, and they hadn't even cut into the cake yet. Across the way, Neville had asked Renata for a dance and she currently had him in her arms after he had fallen asleep. Ron and Huxley had beat out both of them, already napping against their fathers.
Renata looked over at him as she turned around, slightly overwhelmed by the amount of happiness that was a mixture of her own and James' that washed over her.
"I love you," she mouthed to him
And James knew exactly what to say back to her.
"Thank you."
